My boyfriend's family are big fans of Filipino cuisine! I've joined them about 5 or more times during special family lunches or dinners at various Filipino restos. When my birthday just this year rolled around, I decided to treat them together with one of Pau's cousin who had the same birthdate as mine. We're a pretty big bunch so we both decided we had to go somewhere that's good for a group but isn't super expensive either.
We decided to try out Simple Lang in Ayala Triangle. I found out about this spot from one of my friends who posted about having gone there once. Simple Lang offers Filipino comfort food with a twist - from appetizers to entrees and even desserts!
Walking along Ayala Triangle, you will instantly notice Simple Lang because of the bright lighting and details of the restaurant's interior. With the white and red hues governing the place, it stands out from the strip of other food spots at the Triangle. Simple Lang is quite small, though, but they do have a second floor to compensate for the lack of space. That's where we decided to dine since it can accommodate around 15 to 20 people.
Now, on to the food!
We ordered their Tusok-Tusok for appetizer, which is their street food platter (includes fishballs, kikiam, chicken skin and pork ears). If you're not familiar with Pinoy stree food, the ones part of the platter are pretty much the staples. There wasn't anything special about Tusok-Tusook. I'd still prefer getting legit street food.
For the main course, we ordered the following : Bagnet Espesyal (YUM!!), Mixed BBQ Plate (a combination of grilled chicken, pork and squid), Seafood Kare Kare (which was pretty good) and Sinigang ni Lola, their take on the traditional Pork Sinigang. They also offer specially flavoured rice. We tried out their Sisig Rice (I rate that a 10!) and Tinta Rice (Rice with squid ink. I'd give it an 8).
As what the restaurant's name suggests, everything here is pretty simple and straightforward. But they do offer something different like Crispy Sisig in Lettuce Cups, Sinigang na Bagnet in Watermelon and Longganisa Tortang Talong Pancake - all of which I'm going to try when I return. For drinks/desserts, do try their Sago't Gulaman and Iskrambol to complete your Filipino dining experience. read more
