It is fast casual - you order at the kiosk and grab a place to eat, listening for your number and/or text to alert you the food is ready. We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. Two friends enjoyed the collards. The only person who was underwhelmed was the person who got the Asian sandwich. Overall, if I wanted a good chicken sandwich and a Buttermilk and Honey was nearby, I'd place an order.

We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

When we first sat, we were handed a specialty menu and the regular menu to have multiple selections to choose from. Now let's get down to the selected items, my dad had a crab omelet loaded with fluffy crab meat, house potatoes and rye bread. My sister had the hanger steak that she enjoyed without sauce (now that's a good steak) and her sides were fingerling potatoes, and fried egg. As for my other sister she had the chicken pesto sandwich which she rocked while eating the entire time because it was so good. Lastly for my meal, I'm pescatarian, a little limited in selections, but I found a fresh garden salad where all the greedier ta were fresh and hadn't been sitting for hours and a bowl of She Crab soup.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were welcomed by the GM and seated immediately. I noted the modern appearance of the dining area with a back area hidden away for larger parties. Also, that explains the parking lot. I appreciated the concise menu options. I feel it's best when restaurants keep the meal choices simple and quality is derived through its ingredients, preparation, people, and service. I ordered the table a bucket o' sweet tots. If you like sweet potatoes and tots, the honey sriracha aioli dipping sauce paired incredibly well. I ordered the Hanger Steak (medium) and my partner ordered the Hot Nashville Chicken sandwich. The steak was tender and well-seasoned (salt and pepper, some butter) and melted in my mouth as I chewed. The vegetables were also flavorful, with the rosemary potatoes very lightly seasoned, and the asparagus was tender and delicious, if only a bit on the salty side. My partner's fried chicken fillet was enormous and dwarfed the bun it rested on. She cut a third off and used that for her meal. We ended up taking a giant piece of fried chicken home and some tots to boot. We heated up the leftovers in an air fryer tonight, which was a delicious reminder how fantastic that chicken's breading was. Our server's name was Drew, and he was an absolute gem. He was there at the right moment throughout our entire meal. Water getting low, here comes Drew. Need some sauce? You guessed it. The guy really made me feel like he had us covered. The GM came by to ask about our experience and we had a nice conversation about Richmond, restaurants, and local business. He advised us to check out other EAT Restaurant Group locations (the company that manages and runs Toast). I would feel remiss if I failed to mention the extensive bourbon library. Now, that is the perfect way to describe the bourbon selection. There are pages of bourbons, whiskeys, and scotches to choose from, so if you are a single-malt scotch kind of person, don't sleep on Toast.

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

The Thai food here SLAPS! The dining area is fairly small, maybe about 10-12 tables, can see it filling up pretty quickly. Our server was super friendly and attentive (forgot her name) and was so nice to our noisy toddler haha. Food came out at pretty good pace and app, entrees and food didn't all come out at the same time which was nice. You HAVE to get their Thai sausage appetizer - If they made this an entree, I would get it every single time. The sausage is perfectly balanced with lean and fat and packed full of Thai flavor and spices. For my entree I got the Thai fried rice with chicken and this portion is HUGE, was able to take some home and easily serve it as another meal. The fried rice was so tasty and fried chicken was perfectly fried and came with a nice sweet and sour sauce too. My wife loved the pad se ew and got to take home her food as well. If this place was closer to us, it would be not good for our wallets. If you want delicious and authentic Thai food, look no further than Yak Yai!
