For the few times they I go early saturday morning, I really enjoy it! Its a bit of a scary drive with all the curves in the park road but it's definitely doable! There are a good amount of vendors from goods, to produce. In the summer I was able to pick up a yellow watermelon, sadly in this season I didn't see any fruit! Id definitely keep returning to see what new products come from the stands!

My favorite Saturday morning!!! The RVA BIG Market is Richmond's largest farmers market. They open at 8am during the summer and 9am during the winter (I once had to wait because I went before 9 on accident...) This market gets busy but they are well prepared with people directing you where to park in an organized manner. There is always multiple options for produce, coffee, and several food trucks with made to order food, as well as various artisans. A great place to walk around and support local. Some of my favorites: - Parousia coffee - well priced specialty lattes that aren't too sweet! - Sammich - the breakfast special sandwich has egg, prosciutto, and pesto and it's delicious -Kitchenette - the bagels with roasted tomato cream cheese!!!! - Flower Child Granola - delicious, homemade, and clean ingredients

I can't recommend RVA BIG Market enough! It's always so lovely to go every Saturday and see my favorite booths! You can't leave the market until you have been to get Parousia coffee and some flowers from fourteen acres! It's a constant rotation of seasonal produce and treats, so you never know what you will find! And to add to it all, everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful!

If you want a fun family friendly market to be enjoyed by all including your furry friends definitely come here. While you can arrive early to get a prime parking spot you cannot enter until they let you in the market. Upon entering you will here music welcoming you in I'm mean this literally. Come hungry leave happy ! Anything you want they have it from dumplings to donuts you must try it all or take a bunch of stuff home. Check out my pictures for what we enjoyed the most on our trip to the RVA Big Market.

I went in March so there weren't a lot of vegetables. There were some but not lots. There are a lot of local food and craft artisans there. It's a very beautiful setting right by a pond! Tons of different food trucks and places to get breakfast or lunch! It is the place to be seen with your kid and dog!

The vendors are great but be cautious of the overly aggressive and unfriendly security. Not good.

I didn't see many vendors selling actual produce or other things that you would expect to find at a typical farmer's market. I believe the actual farmer's market is held on Saturdays. I arrived at the market shortly after it opened so parking was a breeze in the attached lot. In addition to the different vendors, they had a food truck vendor set up and performances by a local artist. What brought me to the Lakeside Maker's Market was All Dis Puddin, a local small business that sells various types of pudding. Think banana pudding, but with different twists that don't all include bananas. I've been following this business on Instagram for a while, and when I saw that they were going to be at the market during my Richmond visit, it was my golden opportunity! I placed an order in advance to pick it up at the market. After getting my order, I walked around the market some more and checked out some of the other businesses that were set up there. I also came across Loquito Coquito, another business that I've been following on Instagram. I was able to snag their February special, strawberry coquito. As Yelpers, we make a point to support local businesses, and this was a great way to support small, local businesses.

Our server was delightful and extremely helpful, I only wish I'd caught her name. We ordered the focaccia and dips (Ajvar, Kaymak, and Snezhanka) for an appetizer. I ordered the Morty (because come on) and my partner tried the Chicky Gabagool. The focaccia was savory, crunchy, and soft in the middle, perfectly seasoned, and the dips paired incredibly. Our favorite was the Kaymak. Chef's kiss. The sandwiches were more of the same. The chicken was tender, moist, and the fixings were a match on the Chicky, and my Morty sandwich hit the spot with some punchy mortadella and roasted peppers. The pesto aioli was a home run. I tried a sour beer here, the Prairie Artisan Ale's "Slush" direct from Oklahoma, and it's the best I've had in Richmond, no contest. Reminded me of the Martin House Brewing Co.'s "Anger Sharks." There is apparently weekend fun with drinking and live music after 10, and last weekend was a DJ (I wish I could remember her name). She seemed like a fun hang, and polite to boot. We will definitely be back to Morty's soon. The ambiance was a bit loud and crazy on Friday night, so we'll hit it up on a calmer weekday and report back.

We arrived at about 2:30 PM on a sunny but not roasting Saturday afternoon. From the street, there appears to be a lot of items for sale, but once you're inside the area, you can see that most of the booths are vacant. I'm new to the area so I don't know what used to go on pre-2010 (when more positive reviews existed on Yelp), but the overall market was a bit underwhelming. That's not to say that a few of the vendors didn't have some nice looking produce and items. There was one stand that had a myriad of produce available including tomatoes, peaches, figs, peppers, and other fresh looking items. The prices seemed fair too, and if we were in a produce-y mode, I'd have purchased some. There was also a few homemade craft and jewelry stands that had some nice looking items, although I didn't see the prices. Some of the stands weren't quite as impressive. There was a stand that had a few different peppers in small quantities and one that had about 20 kid's books. I think it's neat that there are a range of items, but I'm not sure how many people are going to think to check a Farmer's Market for kid's books. Overall: If I were in the area again I'd check to see what items existed, but I just wasn't blown away. It seemed like a perfect day to be out selling things, yet the majority of the area was vacant. I can't compare it to other Farmer's Markets in the area since I have yet to experience any, but my opinion on 17th Street's so far is "A-OK".
