Soul-Ice is a frozen dessert that mixes ice with fruits. Flavors include Black Cherry, Root Beer Float, Mokaccino, Strawberry/Vanilla Swirl, Coconut, Blue Raspberry, Lemon, and the list goes on! The brick and mortar also houses RVA Street Foodies around the back, but once you step inside, there are two frozen dessert carts holding the different flavors. We tried the Mango Pina Colada with a strawberry drizzle, and Tie Dye (which is a swirl of lemon, lemon-lime, and blue raspberry). Both were of super generous amount that comes in a cup. I really liked the strawberry drizzle, as it seemed to be made with real strawberry puree; the Mango Pina Colada tasted much better than the Tie Dye, as the Tie Dye seemed to be more lemon-centric. I also thought it would have been more icy, but it was super smooth and sort of overly 'soft,' if that makes any sense! Staff were friendly, and there are about two small 2-seater benches to wait for your dessert and some tables in the back; otherwise, the place seems to be more of a to-go/carry-out place. Soul ice is truly the bomb! The flavors are spot on and super fresh-tasting, the fresh fruit additions are perfect, and the price cannot be beat! For $4, you get a whole cup full of fruity heat-busting deliciousness. The mango flavor, mmmm; the pina colada, mmmmmm, the watermelon, strawberry, and/or pineapple toppings, drooool! I can't get over how great the flavors are. This is not just junk to give your kids. It's really good, and it actually tastes like the flavors it says it is. The portions are actually large enough that I definitely always have to share with someone else, but your kid will suck this sugar high potion up in a flash, I'm sure. Anyway, people always happy to oblige when I need help finishing up my soul ice. The family that owns this place is so positive, high-energy, and enthusiastic. you can tell that so much passion goes into what they do. They always blast awesome music, which is a plus. A free treat was part of our canal walk cruise but even if it wasn't, I was vibing to the music coming from the food cart so I would have stopped by anyway. I got the bump which was cherry, lemon and blue raspberry. I can see kids of all ages loving this flavor. I prefered the mango over it but both were still so yummy! I was expecting an ice based treat to be super icy but it was actually creamier than I thought! I loved it! Perfect for a hot day! After reading other reviews I see they have food too. This place is opened on Sunday! I drove by and saw people in there and decided to pop in and order shrimp tacos. I also ended up trying the bom pop soul ice and salad I really enjoyed my salad in a cup. My only suggestion is that they get real shrimp to use for the tacos I wasn't a fan of the frozen baby shrimp. read more

RVA Street Foodies opened up along side the amazing Soul-Ice. Our first visit, we sampled 3 of the street style tacos - American, Mexican and Vegetarian. With a side of unique and tasty Tater Tots, and a delicious and flavorful ginger ice tea, our lunch was complete. The tacos were fresh and flavorful! I can't wait to return to try their burgers and some other flavor tacos. The meal order was taken, prepared and served up by the warm and friendly Malcolm. I've seen Soul-Ice carts around town, at different festivals, Byrd House farmers market, near MCV and finally tried it on a very hot day. It was oh so good and refreshing. It is a creamy ice. Fat free according to their website. I had the pina colada which is a favorite flavor of mine. They want to bring back flavors of childhood. I am really curious to how they make it as it is definitely not like ice and doesn't melt too quickly in the heat. Like I said, creamy ice. Kind of like a smoother italian ice. I have had soul ice on several occasions over the past years but it wasn't until my most recent experience that I fell back in love with it again! They had a couple of soul ice carts at the Dominion River Rock festival and I needed something to cool me down and Soul Ice was the ONLY choice. It's a one size cup, maybe about 12oz and it was FOUR dollars. This is really expensive, but considering it's a seasonal treat, I guess they've have to make up the money during the summer. I got the MANGO soul ice and it was the BEST "shaved" ice I have ever had, possibly. The ice was razor thin and really shaved to perfection. Take your regular italian ice and shaved that even thinner. Texture was smooth and creamy and didn't taste artificial at all. Move over ice-cream, fro-yo, and gelato, it's SOUL ICE time! read more

I came here for lunch and the owner was really friendly and inviting. The tacos were great!! I totally recommend trying it! The down fall is that he is the only one here so he taking orders and cooking, which can lead to a long wait time. I will be back to try the other taco flavors :). read more

I first tried Soul Ice while strolling along the Canal Walk a few years ago, and I've been a loyal fan ever since. Every time they're at a festival, the bf and I make it a point to find their cart and snag some Soul Ice. They usually have a few flavor options available (I want to say 4?) as well as real fruit (often pineapple and watermelon) for customers wanting fruit with their frozen treat. Although their website lists 26 flavors, I've only ever seen a handful on the cart. I love the strawberry banana, and the tie dye is a solid choice, too, with its flavors of lemon, lemon-lime and blue raspberry. Last time I visited them, I found out that they are in the process of opening - or trying to open - a storefront, probably in the downtown area. Right now, it's just the carts, but the idea of Soul Ice having an actual storefront and being able to offer more flavors than a cart, makes me so incredibly happy. Of course the delicious dessert is enough to keep me coming back again and again (and maybe even hunt down the cart on occasion), but every single Soul Ice employee with whom I've ever interacted has been absolutely awesome. So friendly, so professional, so engaging.... I could go on and on. Even if I wasn't such a fanatic for the fat-free non-dairy dessert, I would continue to support the brand simply because I truly believe in the company and its employees. Soul Ice was at the Kickin' Chicken Wing Festival. I heard a lot of good things about their fruit ice. I had a cup of watermelon & mango soul ice (mixed). I don't know what's in soul ice but it's delicious!! The watermelon & mango ice was flavorful and included real fruit pieces. They offer a variety of flavors. The ice is really thin which makes it very smooth. It's the prefect treat on a warm day. The line for Soul Ice was long but moved fast. Even though Soul Ice is a cart, they accept cash or credit. Finally got to try Soul-Ice during the Kickin' Chicken Wingfest at the 17th Street Farmer's Market yesterday. I'm now a huge fan! I got the Tie Dye which is a mixture of lemon, lemon-lime and blue raspberry swirl. It was perfect for the warm weather we had yesterday. It was packed with flavor (unlike the snow cones other vendors were selling) and oh so smooth that it's almost creamy-like. The Bom-Pop (lemon, cherry and blue raspberry swirl) must be their most popular flavor as it was sold out really quickly. I wish they had a store - would be a regular if they did! In the meantime - I'll have to keep an eye out for them at other festivals. read more

You are now reading the review of a sweets aficionado and if I give this place 5 stars, you should drop what you're doing right now and run downtown in pursuit of the Soul Ice truck! I was lucky enough to have them situated near my booth at the Vegetarian festival. They attracted a large crowd, so I walked over to see what all the fuss was about. I was under the impression that the Soul Ice in the cups was free so I walked over there to get a cup of whatever this stuff was that had people flocking to their truck. It wasn't free, but they were giving out free samples that I took total advantage of and OMG they were SO good. So good, in fact, that I went back and paid $4.00 to purchase my own cup of the strawberry banana flavored goodness. I couldn't believe that there was no sugar added; the natural sugars found in the fruit is the only thing sweeting the ice. This is just a fantastic idea. Not to mention the owner and other employees were so down to earth and nice. They talked to me like we were old friends. Good customer service + Delicious product= Happy, recurrent customer. We saw the Soul Ice stand on our way to Belle Isle, and when we were on the way home it was the PERFECT treat. He gave us samples of some flavors and we bought one for each adult. My kids asked for water ice while strolling through the Que Pasa Festival. We passed a vendor along the way but I decided to hold off. I'm glad I did because upon leaving the festival, Soul Ice caught my eye and the kids and I decided on BomPom. We loved it! It was a generous serving and the ice was smooth and flavorful. I absolutely love Soul-Ice. So when it came time for my son's graduation party, I thought it would be great to share it with my family and friends. I booked the June event in late March. Days before the party with bad weather looming, I inquired about the possibility of bumping up the time contingent upon the weather. Unfortunately, my question was perceived as a time change request and my original contract was cancelled without any further communication or confirmation in less than 24 hours. Note: the same question was asked of other vendors with no issue and they requested confirmation before making any changes. To rectify the situation, I was sold a bucket of the product to self-serve (we will see how that goes), ruining the experience. The explanation -- due to my request (which was a question) he changed his parking passes for a huge festival which he invested $1k in and could no longer get a cart out to me. I will always support minority-owned businesses but beware should you host an event - speak voice to voice ONLY. Great product - not so sure about the customer service model. read more
