Huge bump on his rib pre surgery
    Raeannon R.

We took our dog razor here and couldn't be more satisfied. After trying to remove his bump twice from different vets, we decided to try this vet. We brought him early to the vet with an empty stomach. The vet kept in contact with us the entire time. They updated us when he was done with surgery and when he was ready to pick up. They also explained the after care very well. His medication was included with the price of the surgery so it was nice that there was no extra costs. Razor made a full recovery and the bump never grew back. The surgeon who works there did an amazing job. I can't imagine how much scar tissue he had with the two prior surgeries and the regrowth of the bump. I know the surgery must've been tricky and time consuming. They took their time with him and gave him the best results. Razor can now lay down on his side and has a much better quality of life. They also found another bump near his butt and removed that one as well. The cone was also included and helped with him not reopening the wounds. Overall, I would recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for surgery for their dog. I believe razor had a lipoma but I'm not positive. I would also like to say that I communicated with Nate personally and he was not rude at all. He really concerned about the well being of my dog. I never once felt animosity from his customer service skills

Nightmare experience. Medical negligence, hostility, and NOT Board Certified. I am writing this to save other pet owners the stress and heartache we went through. Do not let the initial responsiveness fool you; once they have your money, the "care" disappears. The Logistics are Major Red Flags: First, understand that they don't actually have an office in Sherman Oaks. They are just renting a room inside "Beverly Oaks Animal Center." There is no receptionist to greet you; you have to call from the parking lot and wait for a tech. It feels incredibly disorganized. They are building a new spot in Lynwood, but the location is in a very rough area where I wouldn't feel safe returning. Medical Negligence & Incompetence: * They forgot the painkillers: At discharge, they failed to give us the Gabapentin. Our dog was in agony for two days before we realized their mistake and had to drive back. * Poor record-keeping: I asked them twice to take photos of the incision at the first post-op appointment. They still "forgot." * Communication Breakdown: I spoke to three different agents, none of whom spoke to each other. One actually told me I needed to call her back to remind her to schedule an appointment because she would "probably forget." * Shady Billing: Every vet I've ever used provides an itemized bill. Not here. I was given suspicious flat numbers--exactly $3,500 for surgery and $500 for a biopsy. No breakdown, just rounded figures. * The "Nate" Situation: When our dog's condition worsened post-surgery and we tried to get help, we were ghosted. When I finally got a hold of Nathan ("Nate"), I was shocked. He was incredibly unprofessional, lost his temper immediately, and when I asked valid questions, he threatened to call the police if I showed up at the office and hung up on me. * The Kicker: We had to get our regular vet involved just to get our records released. We also found out too late that this is NOT a California Board Certified surgeon clinic. Please, check credentials and go to a legitimate specialist who won't treat you like a criminal for worrying about your pet.

Recovery! With lots of careful instructions provided by the Simons team.

It's devastating to read that some people have had bad experiences here because we are SO pleased with them. There is no doubt a high hurdle to get over when you see that they have no waiting room, no front office, and that you wait in a parking lot. TERRIBLE first impression. And yet ... the results speak for themselves. Everyone I spoke with in the parking lot was happy with the results, and ultimately so were we. Our dog ended up doing TWO TPLO surgeries. They helped us with navigating insurance, they were compassionate and understanding, and despite the admittedly very weird setup were very glad the results were so strong. We would always trust them.

5 Stars for sure! Our rescue group The Kern Project is so appreciative of Simon Surgical Veterinary. We saved a very sweet terrier we named Harry. Harry had a severe break in the large bone of his front leg. The injury was at least a month old. Simon Vet repaired the bone, and so kindly worked with our Rescue on the cost. Harry is doing fabulous! We highly recommend Simon Veterinary Surgical!!!

Post op bandage completely soaked through 20mins after discharge. It only got worse.

I had high hopes when I took my cat, Loki, to Simon Veterinary Surgical for a routine plate removal on June 6, 2025. While the surgery itself seemed fine, the post-operative care was alarmingly negligent. * Discharged too early despite active bleeding--no effective follow-up plan or clear warning. * When I called for help, I was told to "put a sock on it" or buy a pet-store pressure wrap, which didn't stop the hemorrhaging. * Within hours, Loki's bleeding worsened severely, he lost half his blood volume, and was even turned away by an urgent care vet before finally being rushed to LAASER for life-saving treatment. * End result: two days of intensive hospitalization, massive vet bills, emotional distress--and all avoidable if SVS had simply followed basic post-op protocols. This situation showed a dangerous gap in responsibility and care after the operation. The discharge advice was inadequate, the follow-up support nonexistent, and the lack of medical judgement in that critical window put my pet's life at risk. In summary: their after‑care procedures are deeply inadequate. If you're trusting them with a post-op patient, beware--real risks aren't just in the operating room.

My 1.5 lb chihuahua was limping since July 2024. She was not using her back leg at all. I took her to VCA Sepulveda and the surgeon there wasn't sure why. Then I took her to Access Specialty hospital on Jefferson and the Ortho vet told me $8-10k per leg for a subluxed patella. I found Simon Vet surgical center and I was given a flat rate which was reasonable and included therapy. She had surgery in Feb 2025. She is now almost 3 months out and is walking again. I waited to write this review to see how she did. She is climbing stairs again! I am grateful to the staff! Thank you

The "Manager", Nathan, who just happens to be married to Dr Simon, is the most rude, self serving, arrogant person I've ever dealt with in any veterinary practice or really in any sort of position of patient care. Run from this place! Once surgery is over the aftercare is nonexistent. For sure you can't be concerned about your pet and you will never speak to a Vet. Nathan plays interference and if you have any questions at all you'll be branded the worse client ever. Because we had questions about our dogs care and post op meds we were labeled incompetent. We were told that Dr Simon was sitting right next to him while he screamed, scoffing at us. If this is true and she could hear the way he was yelling and condones this treatment of her paying patients you can only wonder at this organizations professionalism. If she were truly sitting right next to him and she cared, she could have been handed the phone for a one minute conversation. Our dog had a fracture repair and his body was rejecting the metal plate. Somehow this was our fault according to Nathan and he screamed again (he does not speak he yells) and we were told we did not appreciate all of the FREE care they were giving us. We asked politely several times to speak to our pets Vet because of his body rejecting the metal plate he put in developing some sores and a severe rash we were very concerned about. We were told absolutely not and we would NEVER get to speak to a vet and we were no longer welcome there. Nathan's communication skills are that of screaming, talking over you and accusing us of ruining his vacation. You will not get a word in ever. Why would they even be contacting him if he's vacationing. This organization has only one number for both offices and an email that Nathan monitors like a hawk. There's so much more ... just beware. It's hard to believe there is anyone who can say they had any type of good interaction with him. I will say though that he's pleasant while quoting the price and getting you in the door to pay for a surgery but then it's like a switch goes off and he does a devil 180. He'll also claim he's never worked with you or your dog and you're mistaking them for the free Simon Foundation when you give an honest review. Wonder why he blocks everyone from speaking to his wife, Dr Simon or their other Bet Dr Sherman? You have to wonder if they even know what's going on.... And Dr Sherman is phenomenal with his surgical skills but don't think you'll ever get to have a conversation with follow up care with either of them. It's a shame because the idea and concept of the center is a good one...but there's no way this practice can survive if Nathan continues to be allowed this high and mighty attitude. The final straw came when one last "conversation" took place when I for the final time asked to please have a two minute conversation with the surgeon and Nathan once again screamed stating that our foster was at fault for everything that's gone wrong and stated (screamed again) that it could only be because she was a TRUMPER!!! Truly!! He actually screamed that a dozen times!! Stunned at the total lack of professionalism we ended up going to a different Surgery Specialist to remove the metal plate Dr Sherman had put in. There is a serious anger problem here that does not belong in a veterinarian office working with people worried about their pets. It's only a matter of time if the doctors ignore all of the horrible reviews coming in about the husband of the primary surgeon. Funny because with three dogs having had surgery with them we were really excited to have a relationship with a surgical center that could get foster dogs in and cared for in a timely manner even if the cost was a little higher. We can't wait to see Nathans response to this review trying to turn it all around to being our fault ... that we made dozens of mistakes ... that we expected "free" services and advice even after spending over $12000 in surgeries. We just hoped for good surgical care for our dogs with a Surgeon we could trust . Now we've decided to break ties and go elsewhere because of his tirades and fits of rage. Don't forget, per Nathan, it is a privilege and an honor to be able to go there. He will reiterate this fact over and over again. Good luck... but I'd stay far away. After all is said and done, the office is so unorganized that they can't even access their own radiographs to forward to the surgeon who then removed the plate. Oh but they might be able to provide screen shots. A loss for words

Dr. Patricia Simon is a highly skilled passionate surgeon. Our goldendoodle had two significant surgeries with Dr. Simon and they went better than expected. Our dog needed to be operated on asap because of aggressive cancer and Dr. Simon not only got us in quick but did such a marvelous job surgically that our dog has been enjoying life for almost 2 years after diagnosis. Dr. Simon's team is great with aftercare help, and I always enjoyed chatting with the doctor because she is so knowledgeable!

Since my last review (where our dog Peanut had a near-fatal overdose of dark chocolate and was saved by Dr. Salpi and team)... we've had a few more unfortunate emergency run-ins with our precious pit bull. First, our doggy was attacked in our own home and while she did her best to put up a fight and protect me... she was left very badly wounded. The hospital was nearly closing and Dr. Salpi immediately washed her wounds and gave the clearance for an emergency surgery next AM with Dr. Dhillon (who very kindly squeezed us in during his hectic work day). Turns out washing the wounds immediately just as Dr. Salpi did helped prevent very serious infections! The surgery was a great success and this staff treated Peanut like their very own. They gave her so much love, care, lots of hugs and kisses and frequently updated me on her recovery. We wanted to wait a few months until Peanut healed to spay her (as my husband and I had heard about pyometra risk)... low and behold the same month we had planned her spay surgery, Peanut had life-threatening pyometra. We could tell she was off and brought her in as soon as possible... Dr. Dhillon once again went above and beyond in her surgery. He even stayed extra to make sure we could squeeze her in before it was too late (and before she went into sepsis). So Peanut got prophylactic antibiotics before her surgery. This was something she tolerated well in the past but apparently the second exposure could have a reaction (which Peanut did). I am told she had very severe anaphylactic shock to the antibiotic, had a seizure and the staff feared her life. All the staff there that day teamed together in "code" fashion to give her supportive care and bring her back to. They monitored her very closely and ensured she was a-okay updating me thoroughly after this incident. It felt so good to know my previous angel was in the absolute best hands. Not only is this team highly professional and caring, I am certain they deeply care for each and every one of our babies like their own. I am so glad and thankful I found this place because it saved my Peanut's life not once... not twice... but three times now in very unfortunate freak accidents. Peanut must've been a cat in another life because so far she's had 9 lives thanks to McGrath Vet center and this team. And I promise we have a watchful eye on her, she's just got a lot of bad luck this year :( she is now thriving (prep fairy costume) we love you Peanut! We love you Dr. Dhillon, Dr. Salpi, Dr. McGrath and the whole team at McGrath vet. Thanks a million!!!

If you are a resident of Sherman Oaks and are a critical thinker, think twice about this local veterinarian. It came highly recommended by a neighbor. I had high hopes and wanted to support this female centric place, however, as a dog mom I would never recommend it due to poor communication, lack of accountability and customer service and a defensive/ hostile stance when questioned. I went back for a recheck of my dog's allergies and skin growths. Note that there are two problems I was seen for initially and the follow up was to include both. This was not the case. I had to remind Dr. Cortez to remeasure my dog's growths. Not all of the growths were measured and there were no recommendations communicated for care. She was focused on his allergies, which had not resolved. I received VERBAL directions for 4 DIFFERENT TASKS and was told she would email me. In the days that followed I called the office and asked for my summary and instructions. I' was told they would be emailed. This happened three times. Nothing was emailed. I was not informed that Dr. Cortez was sick until I was also being instructed not to come back in the email shown below. It's sad that Southpaw won't take any accountability for the excessive wait, poor communication and lacking customer service. I think customer service is a thing of the past, but it's a quality that's important to me. There was no apology or anything that even approached an apology. If you value the ability to ask questions and discuss issues about your fur baby as they arise then this is not your veterinarian either.

Besides all the regular check ups, Dr G. has performed 2 substantial surgeries on my pup in the last 8 years, and has been extremely kind, providing valuable reassuring step-by-step updates throughout, especially aware that I had lost my beloved first dog, (with a different vet), when he did not make it through the anesthesia... I quickly called SOVG to see if they would accept an urgent walk-in and after explaining the situation, the super nice lady told us to bring him in ASAP and they would see him right away. Amazing. As soon as we brought him in, they rushed us to a room and they brought him in the back. Throughout this nerve-wracking ordeal, Dr. Andrea Richter checked in with us literally every 5 minutes, letting us know tests results and what was going on. It was a stressful time, but knowing the urgency and seeing that the team was doing everything as quickly as possible gave us a bit of reassurance. Sadly, things very quickly took a turn for the worse and he didn't make it through the hour. He passed as we were literally walking from the exam room to the back to say our goodbyes. When we walked in, he was surrounded by the most loving and caring group of people I've seen in a very long time. In the midst of my breakdown, I looked around and the staff, too, were crying along with me. It took me by surprise because they must see animals pass all the time and are jaded, right? The fact that they could feel and share in this horrible pain is something I'll never forget. Although we couldn't say goodbye the moment he passed, we knew he was surrounded by a caring group of people (he LOVED people) and that is the only bit of comfort we had during this experience. A few days later, we received a card in the mail - signed by the team, sending their condolences. Although unexpected, it meant the world to us. These moments of kindness are few and far between these days, and we were so fortunate to have found it that horrible day in the team at SOVG.

When I asked if they could phone in the refill to the pharmacy, I was not shocked to learn that they don't do that either. When I asked why they have such a policy, the response I got was probably more honest than management would have liked. The receptionist told me that they require clients to pick up paper prescriptions in person because.....get this.....they sometimes had to call in prescriptions more than once and they don't want to have to do that anymore. In other words, their paying clients should waste their time driving through traffic to do their job for them. After the receptionist talked to the practice manager, she came back to the phone and said they would make a one-time exception and mail me the prescription. That was February 6, 2026. When I didn't receive the prescription by mail after a week, I called back on February 13, 2026 and was told by the same woman that she had mailed the prescription a couple days earlier. It's now February 25, 2026, and I still haven't received the prescription in the mail. Once again, I asked to have them phone in the prescription to Costco pharmacy. They made another one-time exception and did that so I was able to get my dog's meds. This time. But, I'm not about to go through this unnecessary hassle every 90 days when my dog needs her meds refilled. This policy isn't just inconvenient for clients, it's likely to result in complaints to one or more state and local agencies because the policy could (and likely would) be interpreted as one that discriminates against people with disabilities, by making it far more difficult, if not impossible, for a disabled person to get meds for their pets. That may sound far-fetched, but it's not. Imagine telling a blind or paralyzed person that they have to get themselves to the vet office in Sherman Oaks to pick up a piece of paper that staff could just send by email. It's not only a very short-sighted policy, but is likely to violate one or more laws that require all businesses to be accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. I've never encountered such a policy at a vet office, one where staff expects clients to do their jobs for them so they aren't inconvenienced. It seems to me that the real reason for the policy is more likely to make getting prescription meds elsewhere so inconvenient that clients just buy them from the Pet Doctors directly. No, thank you. Their prices for my dog's meds are 3-4 times higher than retail pharmacies. I'm not about to pay more for my dog's meds. I'm going to find another veterinarian instead.

I took my dog here for almost nine years, and never had a negative experience. Everyone was always…read moregood to me and more importantly, my dog. The prices were always fair-- almost cheap, honestly. Everyone we ever dealt with has been wonderful. They've tried to always accommodate my dog when we needed an unexpected last-minute appointment-- which was kind of a lot because she had a few health issues over the years. They were always so nice and loved on her even though she was a bit of a bad girl. When we had to put my dog down very unexpectedly, they tried very hard to save her. But also, they were honest about no heroics. I mean, they really could've gotten a lot of money out of me to save her, but Dr Moon was honest that it was time to let her go. Over the last nine years, they were all just so good and sweet to her. To be honest, even driving by there, I kind of want to cry even though it's been a few months. But I will always be appreciative to everyone there for being so good to my dog.

They would not see me because I have to have appt. With a feral cat that is impossible. Finally…read morecaught him to be fixed, they would not do it ,they did some kind of blood test. When did the rules change!. Don't they know that 2 kittens can have 4 cats each , we now would have 8 , they have 4 cats each that's ...32 cats......please,you do the math. Now I have 2more babies. Maybe make it more about the animals, then make it so nice for us to sit in. I've being going here since Dr. Lee was at the other location. He would see anyone that really needed help. I needed antibiotics for one of my other cats. They denied it without contacting me to come in.
