This review is long overdue, but better late than never. Last year, one of our fur babies began showing signs of distress and we needed him to see a vet ASAP. While VCA used to be our regular vet, they couldn't fit him in and referred us to an urgent care place, which we didn't want to do because we'd gone down that path years ago, and didn't exactly have the best experience. I quickly called SOVG to see if they would accept an urgent walk-in and after explaining the situation, the super nice lady told us to bring him in ASAP and they would see him right away. Amazing. As soon as we brought him in, they rushed us to a room and they brought him in the back. Throughout this nerve-wracking ordeal, Dr. Andrea Richter checked in with us literally every 5 minutes, letting us know tests results and what was going on. It was a stressful time, but knowing the urgency and seeing that the team was doing everything as quickly as possible gave us a bit of reassurance. Sadly, things very quickly took a turn for the worse and he didn't make it through the hour. He passed as we were literally walking from the exam room to the back to say our goodbyes. When we walked in, he was surrounded by the most loving and caring group of people I've seen in a very long time. In the midst of my breakdown, I looked around and the staff, too, were crying along with me. It took me by surprise because they must see animals pass all the time and are jaded, right? The fact that they could feel and share in this horrible pain is something I'll never forget. Although we couldn't say goodbye the moment he passed, we knew he was surrounded by a caring group of people (he LOVED people) and that is the only bit of comfort we had during this experience. A few days later, we received a card in the mail - signed by the team, sending their condolences. Although unexpected, it meant the world to us. These moments of kindness are few and far between these days, and we were so fortunate to have found it that horrible day in the team at SOVG. read more

I previously gave this vet five stars. I've been coming here for years. I'm never coming back. ITS A SCAM. They don't know what they are doing. They charge SO MUCH and just are throwing darts at a wall. I brought my cat in for vomiting and they tried to have me give her an injection for bacterial infection and skin disorder, which they didn't diagnose her for. When I asked about it, yes I was a little upset, Dr. Dumas was rude and dismissive. He even admitted he had no idea what was going on so he was just throwing everything out there because maybe something might work. At that point, why not just give her dewormer, FIV meds, cancer treatment, etc. I mean, they have no idea what's wrong and are throwing in completely inappropriate treatments for undiagnosed issues. It's like someone goes to the doctor with a broken bone and they give them anti transplant rejecting drugs. Just because "we don't have a clue so let's charge you for everything" I am beyond upset. They waste so much time. The original blood test malfunctioned and EVERYTHING came back normal but sure, let's just throw treatment for things they didn't diagnose. I am never coming back . I was a dedicated customer for OVER A DECADE. Dr Dumas has no compassion. No care. He just gives all the drugs so that something works with NO REGARD for the animal itself. And when I asked why, I was told "well we did the same last time." Yeah, last time I didn't bother to ask questions because I TRUSTED. My mistake. My absolute mistake. The rudeness Dr. Dumas met with me is beyond unprofessional. Yes, I was upset, but it's my animal who is being treated for a sickness she JUST HAD and it wasn't resolved last time. So why do the same stuff that didn't work? Because of money. That's why. Because they just throw everything to see what sticks. Because there is no actual thought that goes into this. No diagnosis. Nothing. I cannot believe the attitude I was given by Dr. Dumas. He couldn't even answer why he was trying to give covenia because "well it's a broad spectrum antibiotic" (she didn't NEED an antibiotic was my continued question that he kept ignoring). Not one single answer. At all. Do not come here if you value an actual diagnosis or legit treatment. If you have money to waste, great place. If you expect real answers, you'll be SOL. Beyond disappointed with Dr. Dumas' attitude and demeanor. I am beyond upset with the lack of transparency. I was told "five more minutes" for over an hour. The test malfunctioned and they had to draw more blood, which I barely believe it malfunctioned, and if it did, it just shows the "quality" of this location. I arrived before 9:00 and left after 11:00 with no diagnosis. I left with the exact same knowledge I came in with, that she has an upset stomach. No knowledge was gained but $500 was taken. As a side note, I was here a month ago with a cat that had skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, that cost me over $2,000. Again, I was happy to pay because my cat means the world to me, but I knew they were scamming me with some costs. When I came back for suture removal, a process they told me would take 5 minutes, they held my cat from me for nearly an hour. I had called ahead to ensure they were ready, I was promised it was a good time, yet fitting with this location, I was lied to. There is no diagnosis. There is no treatment. There is throw it at the wall and see what sticks. There is lets just charged for everything, hope they don't question it, and pray something works even though they didn't even diagnose what they are "treating" I have never been so upset about veterinary Care. Dr. Dumas needs to realize he is a doctor and his job is to answer questions, not to give sass back when asked "hey why are you giving this when it is for a completely different condition?" I am absolutely thrilled to have a Veterinarian that I can recommend. I have had a very difficult time finding a Vet practice ever since my previous Veterinarian retired. Sherman Oaks Veterinary group was recommended to me by my sister,and after my first visit with my new cat, I am 100% sold. Firstly, the staff is extremely organized and very caring and courteous. I was very impressed with this. I was able to make an appointment without any trouble. However, it is reassuring, knowing that they have a separate section for walk-ins. I really like that, knowing that if an emergency were to happen, I could always wait and see a veterinarian with no notice. They have an app, which makes it very easy to organize your pet's care. In addition, the staff took the time to let me know about pet insurance and some of the considerations that I might want to think about. Overall, I would say that my first impression was that the staff really loves their job. They seem to care about providing the best possible service and love animals, which is essential for a Veterinarian office. It's strange to say that this has not always been my experience in the past. I highly recommend Sherman Oaks veterinary group. There is nothing more important than the care we give to our animals. I've been coming here for about three years now and I am still very satisfied with my experience! I have liked all of the doctors I have seen and I feel like walk-ins are pretty easy here. They get pretty slammed usually so you should expect a wait but there IS a Mexican restaurant next door...just sayin'. We've been here for all kinds of things from stomach issues, to broken dewclaws, regular check ups and more. The staff is quick to get the pups in and out and they have even made special accomodations for my reactive pup to come in through the back to avoid the waiting area that is usually full. There are also benches outside where you can wait if the lobby is too crowded. The people who are at the front checking you in/out can be either super nice or kind of indifferent. I've had both positive and not so positive interactions with the folks up front. Overall, my dogs have always had good care here and the office is great about sending reminders for follow up appointments. I've grown up in a rural part of the valley with all kinds of animals. I like (most) animals better than I like a lot of people. My dog and I were previous clients at two other great practices, but one of them switched business models during Covid, and the other one closed down after many years in Calabasas. I am very, very particular about who I trust with my dogs and it seems like every practice is being gobbled up by corporate consolidators that are more interested in profit than care. Anyway, when it came time for my boy's annual check-up, I started looking for a solid vet again. I was referred to the Richter family by my partner, after describing my concerns. I booked with Dr. Andrea Richter because my boy is more comfortable with women than men. (By the way, booking was simple, and I didn't have to wait for a long time.) Dr. Andrea was very warm and welcoming. She reviewed the records I provided, and carefully examined my guy without making him at all uncomfortable. We talked about the things I do for him, and she made a recommendation for an additional supplement because he's a bog boy, but she didn't try to sell me a special version like many vets would. (It's something that is widely available over the counter.) In fact, I asked the doctor on my own about a flu vaccine, and she reviewed his travels with me. She concluded that since he is a regular at the dog park, it would probably be a good idea, so we did that. I also asked about echo-cardio studies, since my guy's breed can have some cardio issues. (Last time, I had to go to San Diego for this!) I was amazed to learn that they have a visiting cardiologist every week, so we're booked for that. I'm super pleased with everything, and happy that we've found a great, animal oriented practice where I can discuss things with very knowledgeable, gentle doctors who have everything we need, without selling us things we don't need. Do NOT take your pets here!! WARNING - PLEASE READ!!! I had been taking my two frenchies here for years for allergy meds and basic health matters (ear infections, vaccines, upset stomach, etc). We took our 7 yo frenchie in for an upset stomach and were told there was a foreign body in his stomach. Andrea Richter called me several times stating there is a towel or tampon in his stomach. I said there's no way - he has never eaten anything like that and his tongue is too big, he can't swallow it. I agreed to an ultrasound to prove it was not a foreign body. Andrea called me after she received the ultrasound results (which we were NOT allowed to view) and told me the ultrasound confirmed the foreign body. She said it was life or death and he HAD to have surgery. We had no other choice than to believe her and go through with the surgery. HOWEVER - it was ALL A LIE! There was NO foreign body. There was nothing in his stomach. The cut into his stomach and intestines and found nothing - except he had a bad flare up of IBS, which he had already been treated for/diagnosed with 3 months prior. When we finally received the ultrasound results they clearly state that THERE WAS NO FOREIGN BODY! The ultrasound said that the do not see a foreign body but they recommend an "Exploratory surgery". We were NEVER told this and the vet continues to lie their way out of what they did. $12,000 later and even worse - my poor pup went through a completely unnecessary surgery for their gain. PLUS - this vet still has NOT provided us with any records on the surgery. I do not know WHO performed the surgery. The incision was terrible - I could have done better. RUN AWAY FROM HERE! I am never going back and just trying to spread the word to avoid this con artists. They are only in this for their financial gain. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET! And, I should add - when we confronted Weston Richter & Andrea Richter after the fact about being misled and forced into the surgery, their response was "We should be grateful our dog is alive". That's who these people are. There is a special place in hell for them. This case is being reviewed by the California State Veterinary Board, whom I spoke with again yesterday, it they will be held responsible. The staff is immensely helpful and kind and is always so respectful of us and our pets. They do an amazing job of ensuring your pets get the best care while making sure you fully understand and consent to both procedures and price. They never make you feel bad for not being able to afford every one of their recommended tests, but they make sure you are aware of everything that could need to be done. I recently moved to the west San Fernando area after being unhoused for a little over a year. My service dog had some urgent medical issues and I was nervous about obtaining vet services in the area, mainly because of the cost. The low cost clinic I used to visit is in central LA, and I can no longer go there because I do not have a car and I am disabled. They also did not have any availability for days. Since this vet clinic is very close to where I live, I decided to walk in and inquire about the rates and services. The prices were what I expected for a vet clinic, even though they were fair for most people, I was unable to afford it. I spoke with a young lady in the front about my situation, then she had me speak with Jan. I showed her proof of my public assistance programs (e.g. CalFresh, Medi-Cal). After 30 minutes, Jan came back and offered to accommodate me with the fees this one time. Thank you Jan and the front desk staff for all your hard work. Also a big thank you to Dr. Shannon for her knowledge, compassionate care and understanding. TL;DR - use ChatGPT before you trust what they diagnose your dog with. Frankly very disappointed with the quality of the vets here. Sam is kind, but kindness does not replace competency. My dog could not stop itching her butt. I returned here 4 times before actually getting a real solution... and that was not because they knew what they were doing. It was because AI exists. I saw Dr. Matthew Goss Oct 2025 and he quickly brushed it off as anal glands needing expression and allergies. I had to return a week later because she was STILL itching and so uncomfortable. I saw Dr. Andrea Ritcher this time and she properly diagnosed her with flea allergies. The shampoo really helped the bumps go away on her belly... but her butt was still itching. Also to be honest, Andrea was kind of rude like I had let her itching go on for too long and it was a bad case. I literally was here a week ago trying to resolve it at your vet and didn't get properly diagnosed. 3 weeks later, I returned yet again. The shampoo was not making her butt itching go away. If it was truly flea allergies, then it should work on her butt too right? This time I saw Dr. Sam Ritcher since he solved her ear infection previously. He summed it up to allergies and an anal gland expression despite me saying this was different. I know my dog. I have been with her for 14 years. She didn't itch like this with allergies or just an anal gland issue. (A month later I went to a different vet that gave me a mousse that temporarily aided with the itching, but it was not resolved) So, I returned YET AGAIN for the 4th time. I know, I should have learned my lesson, but don't worry - I've learned now. This time, I asked ChatGPT what the hell was wrong with my dog. I sent it pictures. And ChatGPT guessed it would be a yeast infection based on everything I described. So I went in with a mission: test for yeast to rule it out. When I got there, what was the diagnosis? Allergies and anal gland expression. ARE YOU SERIOUS. I calmly ask if we could test for yeast infection. He said he would take her to the back and look under better light and come back. He came back and said yeah so diagnosis is allergy shot, dasuqin (this is important to remember for later), and anal gland expression. It was quite frustrating. I push FOR THE SECOND TIME - I want to test for yeast. Oh, by the way. In the 14 years that I have cared for my dog, gone to annual blood tests etc... vets normally ask me the basics... is she eating ok? Pee/pooping ok? Energy ok? What medication is she on? None of this was asked. Also - she recently went through radiation and Dr. Sam Ritcher is well aware. He witnessed her when she was balding in the face and now with full head of hair and even commented on Kahlua being one of his favorites. Dr. Sam Ritcher comes back, "we're going to throw all of what I said out the door. We are NOT going to do dasuqin and it's a yeast infection. I'm fine to not even test for yeast and to just prescribe the medication" Wow. Can you believe it? AI diagnosed my dog better than someone who studied veterinary practice. His father came in to explain to me that we are NOT going on dasuquin because if my dog had CANCER dasuquin is a IMMUNOSUPPRESSANT. It was clear his father was consulting him and said he diagnosed her incorrectly. Can you just imagine what kind of timeline Dr. Sam Ritcher almost put me down? He could have put her (and me!) down a path of full on suffering and ultimately death for her. I already did that once with the radiation. I could NOT believe how much negligence there was in being thorough. Because he did not ask me what medication she was on, he was not aware to even LET ME KNOW that I should not give her hypothyroid medicine (levothyroxine) and the yeast medication (ketaconazole) at the same time. If given together, thyroid meds may not work as well. (Yes, I got this information from ChatGPT cus I trust that source way more than this specific vet) And on top of all that, they gave me ketoconazole and told me to give her 1/4 of 200mg once a day and to recheck in a month. This means I'll be medicating her for 30 days. You think I will trust their diagnosis at this point? No way. I checked in with ChatGPT and they said to do 14 days on the ketoconazole. When they brought her out she was SHAKING and SQUIRMING which she is not normally like that when the technicians are actually caring. I could tell with the nail trim they went way back on the quick and used a lot of the powder so they harmed her and she didn't like it. No way am I coming back. Of course a (real and experienced) professional vet is invaluable. I'm not always going to rely on ChatGPT as my vet, BUT if you were to ask me if I'd rather use AI or go specifically here? 100% AI. read more

Dr. Lockhart and his amazing staff are very kind and it's very noticeable that they care. Dr. Lockhart was very informative and straight forward. Honest. He called to give me updates which were greatly appreciated. Anna at the front desk is fantastic. She quickly contacted my puppy's medical insurance and was on top of the claim process. Checking out the next day was easy because Anna send over the documents for my review and quickly processed payment over the phone. I went to pick up my puppy at the time that was suggested and he was ready with his medication and a print out of medication directions. They also gave me complementary puppy food dog. The vet (Dr. A Richter) hurried me along as I was telling her the issue / history of my dog which I should've called out but I was so shocked that it happened I didn't have time to respond immediately. I was given a $1500 bill with unnecessary items to "approve" that the whole experience left me feeling like I was being sold products and services versus getting actual care for my dog. When I elected to have two tests done, the message I received with the results made no sense and sounded so inconclusive. I did not trust that the core issue in which I came to SOVG in the first place was truly being looked at. I would NOT recommend SOVG to anyone who is looking for a vet that truly cares about your pet. Ended up paying $600 for I'm not sure what. Had an incredibly positive experience with this vet's office across the board. So happy to have found this vet! Front desk staff was amazing; I called 3 minutes before closing to schedule an appointment and the front desk person was so kind and friendly and didn't rush me or make feel bad. I was able to get an appointment quickly. Parking was easy and the inside is very nice. Staff was attentive, friendly and welcoming! Dr. Dumas was on time, gentle, knowledgeable and thorough. When I left, again the front desk staff was so helpful and friendly. And when they called to give me blood results, the staff member said "Give your cat a hug for us!" So sweet! I never thought I would write a positive review after losing my baby girl, but the service we had here was honestly unbelievable. My husband and I had brought our dog here once back in December for an unrelated broken nail. Then in August our dog stopped eating and we couldn't get an appointment at our regular vet, so we ended up here. We initially thought she wasn't eating because of some built up plaque on her teeth. After an initial teeth check up, Dr. Goss suggested a teeth deep cleaning, pending a couple routine blood tests. Well, the blood test revealed that our doggy was in kidney failure. We were completely beyond ourselves and couldn't even fathom paying for the suggested hospital stay to attempt to flush out her kidneys for a couple of days. One of the front desk employees sat down with us and walked through all the different avenues we could take to pay and even was patient and caring when I called back and accidentally trauma dumped and cried like a baby about how scared I was for my dog. Ultimately after a month of at home treatment, our girl was slowly declining and we had to make the most difficult decision to let her go. In the days leading up to this, we spoke with multiple vets to make sure that nothing was being overlooked and this was an inevitable decision. Each vet that we spoke to was so kind and understanding and really made us feel seen. On our doggy's last day, a different front desk employee sat in the room with us and listened as we cried to her about how hard this was. She shared her experience and continued to be patient and kind while we were trying to come to terms with this horrible decision. The final vet that sent her home was one of the kindest, most patient people we've ever come into contact with. And although this was the most horrible time in our lives, his kindness is something we will never ever forget. If you are on the fence about coming here, let me tell you that you will not find a better place to trust your babies with. read more

Around June of this year, my dog got an ear hematoma, and we took him to this vet. The doctor, who was female, communicated clearly about what was going on and told us we needed surgery. The surgery went well, and there were no complications. They told us there would be some bleeding, which was completely normal, and to bring him back once a week to check and clean his ear free of charge. Now, in early December, my dog has developed another hematoma, this time on his other ear. I liked the way this vet handled things and we've been coming here for a while, so we took him again. Since this had happened before, we knew exactly what to expect. The doctor we saw was an older man, and at first, everything was going well until we were hit with the bill. They tried to charge us for many things he didn't need, and I was very confused because, as I mentioned, this had happened before. They performed the surgery, and when they gave my dog back to me, he was bleeding everywhere. The image I attached shows what my dog looked like right after the surgery, and the bleeding became even worse after the picture was taken. After a week, we returned so they could clean his ear, and they attempted to charge us $150, even though last time they said it was included with the surgery. It started to feel as if they were trying to squeeze as much money from us as possible. I hate to write reviews like this especially for a vet that we've been coming to for such a long time, but this was completely unacceptable. read more

I personally had the best experiences bringing my pitbull to this veterinary office. There is no one I trust more with my dogs then Dr. Shannon Khododad, as she has fixed my dogs skin and anxiety problems. When my dog was turning 12 I thought maybe this might be the end of the road with the constant horrible skin infections and extreme anxiety to sound. She got him an itchy shot, some meds, and some wipes. Her coat is looking like a puppy now... everyone is surprised when I say she is 12.5 years old. For the anxiety my dog randomly started to get extremely scared of any truck with air brakes like the garbage trucks, to the point she would scratch the walls and break free. The medicine once at a night and morning really gave me my sanity and sleep back as we can both sleep through the night again. read more

It was the first place I took my cat when he needed urgent care and I was really impressed with their level of care our first visit, but I've come to see that it really depends on the day and I've noticed some trade-offs for the quality of care received which I'll outline below: Pros -Walk-in patients accepted everyday -Cute western general store vibe! -Open 7 days out of the week & with convenient hours for pet owners who work -Has a walk-up pharmacy -Dr. Andrea Richter is awesome -- it's clear that she knows her stuff and really cares about her patients! Cons -Staff is overworked (likely due to the walk-in services and being open everyday) -Communication can sometimes be unpredictable with the front desk (scheduling, payment plans, emails, etc.) -Walk-in visits either have you waiting a long time or feeling rushed -Not all of the vets provide the same level of care Personally, I think it depends on what you're looking for in a vet and knowing that because you're getting one thing that's important to you as a pet owner, that very thing may come at a cost in another. If availability is important to you, I would highly recommend Sherman Oaks Vet. If receiving consistently attentive care is important to you, this is probably not the clinic. After having a traumatizing experience at a previous vet with my new kitten this place has been a God send. Everyone down to the front desk has been so proactive and compassionate while I deal with my kittens FIP diagnosis. We often do a walk in and get seen and treated pretty quickly considering how busy they are. The nurses are very kind and experienced. Ally in particular is fantastic and could be a vet herself. Today, we were fortunate to have a new veterinarian named Dr Shannon Khodadad who was exceptional. She was attentive, knowledgeable and had a very good bedside manner. I've taken a few pets here over the years & every time I leave I'm never 100% satisfied ... I'll go in for one thing & I leave with a bill that is always a lot more then I planned for -- they add on so many things .. I understand that it's all preventative care for my animal but sometimes they just need to take no for an answer .. they are extreeeemely busy & so fast paced - they've charged me incorrectly and have given me the wrong medication (for other clients) or they've charged me for services that they haven't done.. then when reviewing my bill & bringing things to their attention they don't have the time- they don't know who originally helped me (different staff members on one case) they get defensive and/or are extremely huffy puffy about it ... over the years i've seen multiple vets .. dr. richter is cool, knows what he's doing (and is the only reason I've gone back) but it's rare seeing him.. the female vet .. her bedside manner is absolutely terrible, I refuse to see her .. & another vet i've seen insisted that my dog had ring worm - gave me multiple antibiotics did everything I needed .. the "ring worm" never went away .. went back in, saw a different vet & that vet was in shock that the previous vet didn't know the difference between ring worm and season allergy scabs (almost talking sh*t about their coworker) .. I was blown away.. the vet gave my dog an allergy shot & his skin cleared up .. my mom has taken her pet there as well.. went in for one thing.. they gave her the wrong diagnosis/wrong treatment.. every-time time her pet went in cause the last medication wasn't working , they'd keep prescribing other medication to heal from the last one -- after months n months of different treatments & money wasted her pet eventually passed away .. which is life but we just feel like he had a few more years in him if he was diagnosed correctly and given the correct medication from the beginning . they're fine . this is just my review , unfortunately my family & I won't be back .. I think they just need to slow down & hear the client out for a second .. & if they're not sure about something then consult with another vet .. or be honest with the client . read more

Dr. Andrea Richter is a true gem--compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in the well-being of every animal she sees. You can tell she truly cares, and that kind of dedication is rare and so appreciated. The entire staff is friendly, efficient, and kind, which makes every visit as stress-free as possible (for both pets and humans!). We're especially grateful for their walk-in hours--such a lifesaver during unexpected situations. I honestly don't know what we'd do without them. MY DOG'S DECLINE AFTER TREATMENT My healthy 13-year-old Maltese began experiencing back pain in February. His regular veterinarian performed a full physical exam and blood panel, which came back completely normal. While confirming the presence of back pain, the vet said they were unable to treat it and noted that otherwise, my dog was in excellent health. In March, I took him to Dr. Weston Richter for further evaluation. Dr. Richter performed an X-ray and recommended conservative treatment, including a steroid (prednisone), pain medication, and a muscle relaxant. After about a month on prednisone, my dog began experiencing incontinence. Dr. Richter then recommended discontinuing the steroid and switching to a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, Loxicom. Within a few weeks of starting Loxicom, my dog began losing his appetite and started vomiting. I brought him to the clinic immediately--even though he had a scheduled follow-up with Dr. Richter the next day. That day, he was seen by Dr. Jonathan Dumas, who diagnosed him with severe gastroenteritis and prescribed additional medications. I specifically asked Dr. Dumas whether I should continue the medications prescribed by Dr. Richter. He advised me to follow up with Dr. Richter at our scheduled appointment the next day. Based on that, I gave my dog another dose of Loxicom that evening. At the appointment the following day, Dr. Richter reviewed new lab results and discovered my dog's creatinine levels were dangerously high. He informed me that Benji had suffered severe kidney damage and would need to be hospitalized. He explained that we'd have to wait to see if there was enough viable kidney function left to determine a prognosis. Less than a month after starting Loxicom, my beloved dog's kidneys were failing, and he could not be saved. When I asked Dr. Richter directly if Loxicom caused the kidney damage, he said no. However, I later learned that kidney damage is a known potential side effect of Loxicom. My dog's kidneys were functioning normally just weeks earlier--confirmed by bloodwork, including creatinine levels, during his annual exam in February. At no point did Dr. Richter or his staff inform me of the potential risk of kidney damage from this medication. Three months under Dr. Richter's care, and my sweet, healthy companion is gone. read more

I hate giving bad reviews, but there is No Way I'm letting this slide. Oh, Dr. Goss is great.. at upselling and not knowing a Damn Thing! Two dogs.. almost 2K of bad service on both animals. First off, this is what $277 of non anesthesia teeth cleaning gets you ( see pics ). This little dog has half a mouth full of tiny teeth, has had perfect non anesthesia cleaning several times elsewhere and for less. Crappy excuses and lies to try to upsell to full anesthesia, and had extra charges that were never mentioned when I inquired over the phone, twice! Plus.. the 30 min wait ended up being 1.5 hours. Brought in my other dog a couple of months ago for a constant cough.. he insisted on blood work, and x-rays to be reviewed by a cardiologist ( $550 more just to agree it was an enlarged heart ). Prescribed expensive pills at $120 every 3 months, for life .. which still hasn't done a damn thing. When I called to let him know they weren't working, he said wait another month and let him know. When I called for a follow up, I was told there would be a charge to bring him back in because time had passed! But, he left a message days later and prescribed 4 pills for $18 for "a cough", ( never referred to the reason I brought him in, in the first place which was ...the cough, and his enlarged heart diagnosis ).. and said if they didn't work it could be something else, to bring him back in. What else could it be, after I dished over $1700 for all those tests, pills and a "review" by a cardiologist? What else could you do which would cost me even more money? Look, I paid over $16,000 for my little dog's surgery after he went paralyzed, and paid for acupuncture sessions afterwards to bring him back to health. I obviously take great care of my pets no matter what the cost. But, I'm not stupid, I know lazy service, and vets like Dr Goss who upcharge to keep the $$ flowing, when they have no idea what the hell an issue could be. Stay away. read more

First of all, I very rarely leave bad reviews, 70 of my 75 reviews are 5 stars but pet owners need to beware of this shady vets office. This might get long as I want to be thorough, my experience might help you. My dog is almost 14 and is a cancer survivor, thyroid issues and I've been managing his collapsed trachea for over 3 years now so his records are extensive, his meds are many and I don't neglect any piece of his care to save money. He goes annually to his cardiologist as well as seeing his primary as needed. I sent all of his records to SOVG prior to my appt. so Dr Lockhart would have full knowledge of Peewee's needs. At my appt. I felt heard and cared for I said I wanted to transfer all of Peewee's care to him as he didn't need his cardiologist specialist and his primary was too far for me to pick up his paper scripts every month (controlled substances). He seemed to understand. I'd just lost my other dog and was devastated after losing him; despite advice from the other vet to do procedure after procedure as he could be saved...9k later I still lost him. That has nothing to do with Dr Lockhart although I wasn't necessarily in the mindset to be able to tell them what they needed to do in order to take over Peewee's care. I wanted an x-ray because due to his CT I was worried he might have pneumonia and it was masked by his coughing (like my dog that passed) Dr Lockhart said we could save money by not doing an X-ray as he could tell my dog did not have pneumonia, however, he recommended putting him in oxygen with steroids for a bit to relieve his coughing as he doesn't do well at the vets, he gets too excited. I said yes, do it if you feel that will help. I left feeling happy and relieved to have his care in the hands of one vet, one that seemed to care. Fast forward one month and I call to get Peewees many prescriptions called in and written and was told I should have gotten a blood test, I need another appt. before they can fill his prescriptions. I couldn't make it in before I was going to run out of his meds and I wrote an email letting them know how unhappy I was and what I got was a scathing reply from Jan, office mgr. I presume. Basically telling me I should have known they need bloodwork no older than 6 mo. and she said I declined blood work from his specialist according to the records I sent them so they figured I wouldn't want them to run it....??? First off, the reason I declined it from the specialist is because his primary had run it already. If you're still here, I'm impressed cause this is long! After letting Jan know I didn't care for her reply and I was planning on sharing my experience on line, only then did she offer to waive an exam fee and just charge for the blood run... too little too late. She is one mean, rude, uncaring person or at least that's how her first email to me came off. No thanks Jan, my dog will not be returning. My dog did find another vet that stayed late for us so I could go after work, they filled all of his prescriptions and I was able to get them filled through his compounding pharmacy and Costco in time before he ran out. As a dog mom with a special needs dog I don't spare any expense for his comfort and if Jan had looked so thoroughly through his notes as she says she would have known that of course, a blood draw is no problem, do it, I mean the alternative of going back in one month, pay another exam fee, put my dog through another visit, to do something they need in order to fulfill their promise of taking over his care seems ludicrous. I feel like this one is on me, because I should've known better than to take my cat here for anything other than routine care. My cat developed diarrhea last year and was prescribed prednisolone. I wasn't apprised about the risk of kidney disease and that there should be some intense monitoring and looking for adverse reactions. Well, my 5 year old cat is now in stage 2 kidney failure with an estimated survival of 2-3 years. I get that vet science isn't precise and maybe there was no way to avoid this. Who knows. But I can tell you what I really don't like. My cat has been going here for 5 years. My other cats even longer. I called and told the front desk my cat was in the emergency room. No sympathy. I never received a call from Dr. Andrea Richter, who had been treating my cat, to ask what happened, how he was doing, offer to talk to the emergency vet. Nothing. I sent an email expressing my disappointment about this. Crickets. So my take away is that they're more concerned with churning through patients than actually caring about them. read more

Took my cat in because he was having diarrhea and difficulties with his stomach. That said oh we'll run tests. Then came back to tell me there would be 1000+ dollars for tests. He's probably just fat don't worry about it. Then they billed me and I left with a bad taste in my mouth, but they are a busy vet ‍ Cut to 2 1/2 months later and they charge my account again. I did not take my cat in, I did not call them, I did not see them, but they charged me again for the service. When I saw this Bill occur, I called them and they promised me that it was refunded, after four days I called my bank. They are now looking into why I haven't been refunded. I've called Sherman Oaks vet veterinary group several times and they say oh don't worry it's coming. They continue to blow me off and not actually refund the money that they stole from me. It required me walking in and demanding that they give me my money back. They did, after I had to demand it. They still tried to fight me and take my money for a service I never received or asked for. Had the audacity to tell me if we accidentally refund you more then come back and pay us again. They should stop stealing money from people who did not go in. Highly recommend that you do not come here and if you have you should check your billing statements for random charges. Ps: they never called me to tell me what my cats results were, I had to go in to get them they just do not care about you or your pets at this place. read more

Love this veterinary group! I've been fostering dogs and Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group are a true blessing. I love that they have daily walk in hours, vaccine clinics and just an all around awesome resource for those with pets. Side story, I once witnessed an elderly woman and her husband picking up their sick pet, the technician is going over the pets after visit care and one of the items was a special canned food. The elder couple look at each other and begin to discuss how much of the food they can afford and decide to just purchase the 2 cans of the 4 they had hoped they could afford. After buying these cans and returning to their seats to wait for their pet the technician approached them and had purchased the 2 remaining cans for them. It was beautiful and I think about it often. read more

Update # 3 - I am horrified. Still living out this nightmare almost 3 years later from sherman oaks vet! 2 MAJJOORR updates: 1) confirmed today by a new vet who i trust. My dog has all teeth still in tact. 22 teeth need to be removed. I was charged for a tooth removal from sherman oaks vet and all his teeth are in tact. The one i was charged for from sherman oaks rotted his jaw away. It was 100% still there and was finally removed today. I cried so hard when I saw how rotted away his mouth was and i thought this whole time it was taken care of. 2) the cyst on his belly that i paid rivers ver for $700 in total was never removed. Just drained. Its back now and WAY worse I WANT MY MONEY BACK!! And something for alllllll the stress and wasted time and pain my dog has been in all these years. read more

I originally brought my dog in for diarrhea. They told me he had gastritis and prescribed me $100/bag prescription food. About 6 months later my dog started peeing blood. I brought him back in. They said he had a severe case of bladder stones... the cause was his food. I told them I'd been strictly feeding him their prescription diet. No acknowledgement they could have been the cause of this, just quickly changed their story to "it could be many things." Flustered and wanting him to stop peeing blood, I paid a $5,000 bill to remove the stones. Shortly after he had a UTI they were unable to get rid of. They told me I needed to bring him every 3 months for X-rays / urinary cultures totaling $700 each visit. I could not afford it, and stopped bringing him in for his check ups. Shortly after that - he developed anemia. I brought him to a new vet. The cause? All of the meds they had put him on. Guess what? I don't have to bring him in every 3 months for tests, and he's been healthy since I left this vet a year ago. Long story short, this place will take advantage of you and does not care about your pets at all. It's really sad that they take advantage of people just trying to care for their pets.
