The central reception service said "they were very busy because of back to school". Well, two weeks before the appt, I needed to reschedule - and was pushed out another two months. The women that I spoke with were rude and uncaring - very different from the previous office staff. Additionally, they don't run a cancellation list. Dr Steinbach is a fine optometrist, but certainly not worth waiting five months for a regular eye exam. As a long time customer, I find the changes in staff, process and service here disheartening. I will be changing doctors.

I did purchase new frames for the glasses that I have broken. I drove to the Concord Pike site to discuss the issue with the gentleman. He stood there near the back never check to see if I made the appointment as only comment to me was and., when I stated to him again that he made an appointment and no one can find it again and he stated and. And then seen it. What do you want me to do? I don't remember it. He never attempted to check the appointment scheduled to see what was going on. He stood there like I was a criminal and I did something wrong. I returned home to Maryland the next day and locate my card that he wrote the schedule on the appointment was scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10 am with Dr Ammon. It was for my yearly eye exam. I would hate to assume the reason he did not help me, but his message was very clear to me. I think his actions were very unprofessional and certainly disrespectful to me. Needless to say I've been coming to. I works for some time, but I was able to get an appointment the same day at SIMON EYE up the street. I've called the Lantana Drive location to have someone call me to discuss. It would take so little to treat elderly (I'm 70-so I'm talking about those elder to me) patients with patience and kindness. It is also counterproductive, as they could be scaring patients away. Once you get beyond the gatekeepers, evereyone is professional and competent. I will also say that I had the same experience at the Surgical Center. But yesterday afternoon, driving my '97 Boxster back from Philly to Wilmington, it rained heavily the whole way and there was a lot of spray from speeding (55 limit = 70), heavy traffic and also fog on I-95. The yellow-tinted sunglasses turned out to be perfect fog and spray cutters. Quite amazing. I mean it was like the road was clear. Big trucks and black pickups come from the fast lane and cut in front of me to spray my yellow roadster good, but I was OK vision wise. Fortuitus mistake or not, the yellow tinting worked out fine. Good to know. All's well that ends well.

I really loath medical clinics, most of them (all that I had ever visited) were not that impressive. However, been to both locations of this consultants in Wilmington several times and have to say that the staff (including some doctors, nurses, clericals ...) are wonderful, very easy to talk to and absolutely kind. I can't say all the doctors are nice, but I was lucky to get a few (like Dr. Wohlhagen) who have great bedside manners, knowledgeable and treat you like you are actually a human being (LOL). I can understand how frustrating it could be to book an appointment with them. Guess when they are good, everyone will want to go there. Do imagine how scheduling an appointment could be tedious and boring. The staff can only book an appointment if there's a vacancy. I had witnessed how unreasonable and rude some of the patients were. In fact, you have to give credit to those staff at the front desk. They are patient and able to take all those "abuse". Maybe next time when you visit this clinic, try to smile and say "hi" to those staff at the front desk first and see how you are treated.

When you call and ask for billing dept most times no one answers. Once I called and gave a credit card to pay my bill, they told me they could not email me a receipt. But then I asked to mail me a receipt, they said yes, but never got the receipt in the mail. I went in today 4-4-25 with my receipt from Oct. 2024 which showed I paid the copay, the lady said "just ignore the bill, NO explanation as to why I received the bill. I would not say this is a professional environment. I have no issues with the doctors, they seem to be true professionals, it the staff members who I have issues with. Therefore, I have moved on to another eye doctor NOT AFFILIATED WITH THIS BUSINESS. Many of my family and friends have also left this practice for the reasons I have cited above.
