I didn't have time to look around, but did buy two bars and chatted briefly with the two friendly women behind the counter. Note: one bar already "disappeared" as I was working in the afternoon. ;-) Later in the day, I stopped back to check out the entire store. Again, what a great place! Lots of items that are cool gifts for either someone or yourself...and everyday items such as soaps, lotions, throw pillows, and much more! While there's a lot to love about the store, my favorite section may have been the cards. No, make that it WAS the cards! They reminded me of my favorite card store in the world, called Two Neat -- located in Mill Valley, CA. (Yelp it and you'll see why.) Needless to say, I'm surely "hooked" on Hook! ;-)

I walked in and was greeted immediately by a precious young sales associate . I told her what I needed. She let me browse and she and another precious associate made some suggestions. No high pressure selling. They reminded me of a sales associate I use at a favorite boutique at home. I love the fact that they put out one size of each item and not cram so many clothes together that it feels overwhelming and exhausting. I left with some cute things. My husband was with me and he was happy because they had chairs he could sit in while I shopped. All boutiques should do that. The price points are high, but it is no different than other boutiques I have shopped at in other resort areas.

From children's clothing, to toys, blankets, Telluride collectibles, etc. it was all so impressive. Of course, they have INCREDIBLE trendy fashion for women and men as well. It is on the pricy side but great quality and timeless pieces that you'll have forever. We picked up this ADORABLE stuffed airplane backpack + suitcase for our sweet boy to grow into. With his dad being a pilot, I just couldn't resist! The cute stuffed monkey comes out and can be a cuddly toy as well. I can't wait for him to be old enough to use it. Is it 2021 yet? (I know, i'm a crazy momma, haha!) I'll for sure be back to this incredible boutique on my next visit - thanks for always bringing a smile to my face, Scarpe!

Colorado mountain towns almost always have tourist-trap stores that our family says "have gone the…read moreway of the rubber tomahawk". One can just hear the cry of the famous Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta turning in their graves. The Buckskin more than offsets a lot of the tourista trash. Via architectural fortune, the Buckskin has the honor of being located on the ground floor of the AMAZINGLY well-restored Beaumont Hotel (the lobby is up a beautiful set of stairs leading to the 2nd floor). Ouray and the surrounding area are fantastic (e.g. hiking 14er Mt. Sneffels, camping where people cannot find you off of Imogene Pass, a killer hot springs pool), but unfortunately, Ouray also has its fair share of sloppy homely-cousin kitsch (the ubiquitous glass hummingbirds and t-shirts with the usual unfunny slogans). The Buckskin is a great place to walk in and peruse for local history - in a classy but friendly environment. The Beaumont itself is a great story - look it up online. It will make even the worst curmudgeon smile. Recipe for a great day in Ouray: go for a nice draining hike; take in the hot springs; eat a great dinner - then head to the bookstore before crashing. The only downside to the Buckskin is it's not very big. However, no book (in the Buckskin or elsewhere) will prepare you for the adrenaline pumping, no highway rail ride from Ouray to Silverton (and Durango)! If you bring out-of-staters, make sure you also bring some Depends.

First of all, we walked in and saw the most beautiful bookstore we have ever been in. It has all been recently redone and looks fabulous. So far so good, it was a beautiful store with a great selection of books and other goods. What took it over the top was that the owner offers coffee to drink while you browse the books and FRESH BAKED COOKIES his wife had brought in (they were delicious). The owner was extremely friendly and helpful if we had any questions about the books or Ouray in general. We had a great experience and would definitely recommend a visit to tourist and local alike!
