Doug Dushan gave me a tour of the facilities and explained their capabilities and was eager to answer all of my questions. Their showroom is basically a mock up of what I'd imagine Tom Brady's house looks like. TVs everywhere. Speakers stealthily installed behind walls and in the ceiling. It was incredible. And then there's the home theater. Oh my god the theater! It's a 14 seat home theater that is straight out of Best of MTV Cribs (remember that show? With Master P living like a king?) He let me pick a few scenes of movies to get a vibe for what they can do, and needless to say, I was amazed. Their engineering appeared to be top notch. Doug took me back to where they would build and test my media server and the accompanying electronics before they would be installed in my home. I really appreciate this attention to detail. Most home theater outfits do much of the install at my home. Echo Systems does all of the pre-install work at their site so all the troubleshooting can be done there before it gets put in. Doug was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient with my tsunami of questions. I'm sure I'll be using Echo Systems for my home video needs in the future.

I was told it would be 'no problem' to continue service in another state. What I wasn't told was that they assumed I would have the exact same house (no need for additional sensors) and that I would have to re-install the (now incomplete/worthless) system myself. They actually suggested I post an ad on craigslist to find some random person to come install my security system. I was told they would send me additional sensors (which they didn't) and help me find a reputable company to professionally install their system for me (also didn't happen). They refuse to let me out of their 4 year contract which I am still paying for monthly even though I am unable to use their service. This company lacks integrity, professionalism and basic customer support.

The individuals are very personable but nothing they promised is in writing, and even when it is,…read moreevery avenue for scheduling the tech won't work...unless you are buying more product. They have quite the intricate system for avoiding refunding and allowing customers to leave, even when one has followed all of their protocols. If they spent half the time in developing better integrity, they would see a much higher rate of contented customers who wouldn't be bothering them and wouldn't need to develop such elaborate systems for discouraging people from leaving. Research backs this up 100%. Don't even get me started on why I chose to leave after the 3 day grace period, I could write a book on the smiling, courteous faces, who push through their own agenda, even when their verbal response appears to be listening and agreeable. It is obvious they have extensive training on how to distract and wear down customers. The final straw was when I went down to our local city and county offices to get more information on exactly how the 911 dispatch for emergencies works (what happens for false alarms, the permits that the company said they needed me to sign, etc). When the front desk clerk heard that I was inquiring about Vivint, face turned pale and they had the captain of the police force and another official come ask me what I needed. Needless to say, our city officials are very well aware of this company and have repeatedly directed them to get the proper permits before knocking on doors, which they NEVER even attempt to do. I would hope that our city permit department never grant this company a permit because the ethical standards which the entire Vivint team operates by leaves a great deal to be desired. I think it's interesting that the review sites such as Top10.com indicate "We earn commissions from brands listed on this site, which influences how listings are presented." Well, yes, the website give them very high reviews because they are most likely creating the reviews themselves! I would not wish this company even on my worst enemy, because that would mean Vivint would continue to operate. The equipment they sell are brands you can purchase at the local Home Depot, etc. but they have repackaged the devices and disabled them so you can't use them individually or with another system, even when you pay for them outright. Another tactic to try to force you to stay with the company.

Never use this company unless you're going to use them for 5 years & endure the never ending rate increases.

Universal Electric was called to my home for what appeared to be a breaker issue. By the time their…read moretwo technicians arrived, the issue had already resolved itself. I asked them to investigate further in case the problem returned, but they declined, saying "there's nothing we can do." They never entered the home, never inspected anything, and only briefly stepped out of their van into my driveway to talk to me before leaving. At no point during the scheduling call was I told there would be a service fee. When the techs arrived, they made no mention of a charge, nor did they provide any kind of invoice or paperwork before leaving. I later received three bills by mail, each demanding $130, with no explanation of what the charge was for -- just a warning that failure to pay would result in the account being sent to collections. I did not believe the charge was warranted and disputed it in writing via certified mail with return receipt, which Universal Electric received and signed for. They never responded. No follow-up, no phone call, no documentation -- just silence. Eventually, they turned the matter over to a collection agency. It's frustrating to be billed for a visit where no service was performed, no agreement was made, and no information was shared upfront about potential charges. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Universal Electric.
