Only building structure are two restrooms, and i hope they were functional (I did not go in). The train station has only one track (other simple stations have two) and therefore, there is only one covered platform. No TV monitors. No proper guidance whatsoever. One could get lost, even panic, if you are not a frequent train traveler. However, if you have the train app, you should be in good shape. Because even if there are TV monitors, they are not accurate for train arrival or departure. What I recently discovered is that the south bound Amtrak Surfliner, which reaches Santa Barbara at 1:45 pm actually starts here in Goleta at 1:30 pm. In other words, the train does not come from San Luis Obispo. Actually, it is beneficial to board here because you can get a good seat. in Santa Barbara, the crowds begin to get it. Having said all this, I am still very surprised that since UC Santa Barbara is so close by, this train station did not live up to its clientele and traffic in the area.

Goleta is basically the end of Santa Barbara that is next to the University. The Greyhound buses I used to take when I got into UCSB (good times) and came to check it out used to stop literally almost on campus. It was a good stop and it was helpful. These days you get off down in Santa Barbara. The Goleta stop - which is just a little gray shack and nothing to write home about - is long gone in terms of usage, or at least isn't on the routes I take anymore, or the ones that most people take into Santa Barbara.

I happen to think the Clean Air Express is worth 5 YELP STARS? Why?…read moreBecause this bus line now goes to WINE COUNTRY! No trip to Santa Barbara is complete without a tour to sample the grapes in the Santa Ynez Valley. Clean Air Express bus service connecting Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara for the first time cut the ribbon on July 11, 2015 and then departed at 9:30 a.m. from Buelton. Right now the Vino Express just goes out on Saturdays. The regular fare is $7.00 per person each way (buy at boarding) or a booklet of 10 passes is $50 in advance. Children age two years & under ride free. This is a 5 YELP STAR EVENT because before, you had to drive out to the Santa Ynez Valley and have a designated driver when you visited the wineries and sampled the fare. Now that the bus is here, you can hop on board and enjoy yourself without worry. For the first time, this new Clean Air Express Saturday public bus service allows anyone in Santa Barbara to travel to Buellton, Solvang and Los Olivos for the day--and anyone in Buellton and Solvang to travel to Santa Barbara for the day. The bus is plush too. The new Clean Air Express Saturday service features charter-style buses with free Wi-Fi, reclining seats and internal bays for transporting bicycles. That is cool because you can board your own bike for a ride to take a tour of wine country. What a great opportunity this affords day-trippers in the area to explore this beautiful and scenic region. Napa Valley has the Wine Train and now Santa Barbara has the Saturday Clean Air Express!

If I were to be commuting (like a fool) it would be costing me around $50 A DAY!! to get to work and back. That includes gas and regular wear and tear on my vehicle. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the more disappointing parts of the trip. The seating is tightly packed. I understand maximizing capacity, but at 6'6" it was not comfortable. We moved to the front right side where there is a sideways bench behind the driver, which offered more legroom. That felt like a smart move until we realized most of the sights being pointed out were on the left side of the trolley. It felt like about 80 percent of the tour was oriented that direction, which meant we were constantly twisting around and still missing details. If you book this tour, sit on the left side. The narration also felt disorganized. The driver mentioned he was reading the traffic flow incorrectly and ended up doing much of the route "backwards." Because of that, he would introduce a historical figure or landmark, then later circle back and partially repeat the same information when reaching his usual talking point. There was noticeable repetition and filler instead of a smooth, cohesive storyline. Midway through the tour, there is a stop at Mission Santa Barbara for about 15 minutes. While it is nice to get off and stretch your legs, 15 minutes is nowhere near enough time to meaningfully experience the mission. You can walk through the courtyard and take a few photos, but that is about it. The mission deserves more time than a quick pass through. In practice, the stop felt more like a checkbox than a real opportunity to explore. Another frustration was departure time. The 2:00 p.m. tour did not leave at 2:00. The driver waited past the scheduled time to see if additional passengers would join. When you are visiting from out of town and carefully stacking your schedule, those extra 10 to 15 minutes matter. Overall, for about $30 per person, I expected a more polished and better organized experience. We both left disappointed. If you want a meaningful introduction to Santa Barbara, you may be better off exploring key spots on your own at your own pace.

My daughter loves it and it really helps us go across town without spending so much money on gas. The downside with public transportation like this is you don't really know what types of people may join you on the trolley. Sometimes it's young groups of teens heading to the outlets, other times it's just nice people heading somewhere but sometimes it's uncomfortable homeless or disabled folks who need more assistance. I'm okay with this though because really, it's a short ride and everyone has a right to partake in the trolley because the drivers are In charge and they have rules! Some drivers are super nice and wait for everyone at the stops, others drive way too fast and skip stops if you don't pull the lever to let them know you need to stop. But overall, it's so fun for my daughter and it helps you walk around Camarillo to discover all the fun shops and places this town offers! I'd recommend at least one try on the trolley, but sometimes it's too full to take on more passengers! They really should get 2 going at this point. But I'm thankful for the ease and fun it has brought to us.
