Lululemon referred me to this alteration shop for a zipper replacement. They told me they would have to replace the entire zipper and that they would match the color, so l agreed. It took around two weeks for this work to be completed because they had to order the zipper. The zipper they replaced it with is yellow, not even close to the color of the jacket. The stitching is sloppy and the lines on the jacket are all crooked now. This work costed $45, and my jacket is now in even worse condition. I have wide, BROAD shoulders...HUGE TITS! But y'all... I don't have any lower body. I don't have hips. I don't have a booty. And I have these chicken legs and little ankles. It's a struggle. So when I buy shirts, I have to buy them big to accommodate my shoulders and breasts, but everything else is left hanging. So the suit for my niece's wedding was a disaster in the shirt, waist and pants. I needed help and this place delivered! I don't know this man's name, but I was in a rush needing everything taken in with this pantsuit and he delivered in 24 hours! God bless you, man!!!! I got my wedding dress altered here a few months ago. I was extremely impressed at the job they did shortening the dress, and the turn around time was within a week. Then I needed them to do the bustle. This took about 2 weeks (when they said it would be a week). When I went to pay for both services it was over $500!! Way more expensive than what I was expecting. Then at my wedding my mom and bridesmaids went to bustle my dress and the middle loop had fallen off! We had to attach it with a hair tie. Very frustrating. read more

Awful experience. I took my skirt in to get tailored and ended up with a skirt that looked like a scrunched up straw around the waist. He insisted that this was good work because it fit my waist. He even tried to charge me more to fix his mistake. Not only was my skirt not ready by the date he told me it would be, but when I was able to pick it up he had cut off way too much fabric. The skirt does not even fit above my waist and I didn't even get so much as an apology. Honestly, the amount of effort he put into my skirt was evident by the re-stitching of the J. Crew tag. I took my suit in for alterations and it was ok. After wearing it 4 times the stitching came undone. The rude manager said we don't give a lifetime warranty. Just moved to this area and needed a men's suit (wool, slim fit trousers) altered with a short turn around time. Silver Thimble was able to accommodate this shortening in just one day and had it back to me by the next morning. The length of the pants were just as I had measured them when trying them on the day before for the seamstress. As for the less than 5 star review, the location is a bit run down. This part of Bryan appears to be under going some renovation such as the parking lot of this tiny strip mall but when I went there, it was in ruins. I'm hoping it will be fixed soon. The store is tiny but does the job. The attendants didn't speak English well but enough to get your point across. The gentleman had quoted me one price on the phone but when we picked up the item, added a "rush" fee. I disagreed with that additional fee since he did not inform us of this at the time of drop off nor does that fee appear anyway on a sign in the store. He was nice and took off that fee and we paid the initial price. The price for shortening pants was about $11. Overall, the tailor job was good, they were able to rush our order for the next day which was great because the other alteration stores in the area needed 2 days. I just had a bridesmaid dress altered here for a friend's wedding. I took it in on Wednesday, and it was ready to be picked up a week later. I think that if I had needed it faster, they could have had it ready for me sooner. When I went in for the fitting, they were so nice and helpful. They helped me right away, and I wasn't there for more than 10 minutes. The dress is a little detailed, so I was worried about how they would alter certain parts, but they were very helpful in telling me what they could and couldn't do. The alterations were professionally done, and I am very happy with the fit. They didn't tell me the price beforehand, but I ended up paying $22 for taking in the dress, and $18 for shortening the length. Pretty fairly priced, I think! I will definitely go back if I need anything else done, and I would recommend them to anyone! read more

I wasn't given a quote when I left my dress here, and I assumed it be what was listed on the menu at the store-$35. The dress was done three days LATER than promised, he wasn't in the store during business hours one day I went to pick it up, and it cost me $91. JUST TO SHORTEN A DRESS. My son called me frantic from A&M after the pants he took in a week in advance to a national mens clothing store to have hemmed....weren't ready when he went to pick them up. He got an oh-well attitude from them and was panicked because his fiance's sorority formal was a couple of hours away and he had a jacket but no pants. I got online and found Silver Thimble alterations. I called to make sure they could get to them on such short notice and they assured me they could, and to give them 30 minutes. The gentleman was pleasant on the phone and eager to have my business. My son said he was equally nice in person and had him in and out in 15 minutes! He also said that there were pictures of the man and his sweet little daughters at the register, with the saying something along the lines of he was proud of his little princesses. My son said the same little girls were playing in the store while a Spanish version of Frozen was running in the background. Always happy to support a small family business! He charged a small rush fee, but it was very reasonable considering him accommodating a "right then" order at 5:00 in the evening. It came out to to a dollar more than the charge from the national chain...that couldn't even get done on time with a weeks notice! Very well worth it! The other reviewer talked about the condition of the building, which my son also mentioned to me. He said the store itself wasn't dirty or unkept....it was just a really old and kind of dilapidated building. Hopefully with continued great customer service like that he can grow his business and move to a better location. I highly recommend Silver Thimble for Aggie moms, especially with those crisis phone calls home! Great, courteous and fast service! In town for an important event, and realized at the last-minute that the button on my suit jacket had broken while at the dry cleaner. The staff was polite and responsive, and the owner, Ramiro, found a matching replacement button without having to swap out the others, then had the repair done in 3-5 minutes. Looks like they do upholstery work, neckties, pillows and other work beyond standard alterations. I'd definitely come back for something more involved. read more

It was so much more expensive than I thought it would be (at least twice as much) and I honestly felt unsafe going in alone.

This is the WORST "alterations" place on the planet!!! I took a cross-stitched piece in to be made into a stocking. (I left him another finished stocking to use as an example.) I was told to come back on Friday for finished piece. I did and was told to come back in a week. This happened 3 times. When I finally received the piece it was HORRIBLE!!! The seam was uneven, he crushed the velvet and use a completely different piece of fabric (for the inside of the stocking). This item took me 10 months to complete and it is now in the trashcan. I will begin tomorrow on a new stocking. AND TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY THE guy CHARGED ME $40 W/O BATTING AN EYE. Stay away from the silver thimble. read more

I just left Silver Thimble, and I must say I am extremely disappointed and upset about the price I was charged for having my wedding dress altered. Ramiro didn't mention the price of my wedding dress alterations beforehand, and I assumed it would be reasonably priced, because I only needed the dress to be slightly shortened. Well, Ramiro performed the alterations: he shortened my dress and added a satin button so I can shorten or extend the train on the dress. Everything was fine, until I went to pick-up my dress today and he told me I was being charged $200! Keep in mind the cost of my wedding dress was only $150. I told him the charges were way too high, and that I was expecting to pay no more than $60-$80. He then told me that he would give me a discount, and so he charged me $160! I was so upset and shocked, and never expected to be price gouged, because Ramiro seemed so kind. But I won't be fooled again. I was tempted to leave the dress, because I know he was robbing me, but my wedding is 2 weeks away. I ended up paying the $160--which is more than the cost of my dress, and now I'm writing this review. I hope he thinks the price gouging was worth it, because he could've had a loyal customer, but now I will spread the word so that others are not price gouged. He asked several questions about my wedding and its location. I told him I am having a destination wedding, and I honestly believe it registered in his brain as "she has money to spend on a destination wedding so I'm going to jack up the price significantly." The place also needs remodeling on the inside and outside. In hindsight, I wish I would've taken my dress elsewhere for alterations, and I will NEVER do business with Ramiro/Silver Thimble again. read more
