This is our favorite park to go to as a family. The kids playground includes an area for little…read moreones and a couple different areas depending on the age of the child - all right next to each other. There are tables and plenty of seating to watch play (but play with them too!). There's a big open area for lawn games and also a splash pad with more seating and a pavilion you can rent for parties. All things enclosed and pets or bikes are not allowed. In addition to this there is a massive lawn to play things like soccer or other sports, great paved walking or biking paths and it even goes into the woods where you can play in the creek. There are plenty of great trails here, paved and dirt, and a hand-full of fun geocaches if you download the app. Very amazing park!

While out and about today I found myself wanting to go for a walk. Being a ways from my usual…read morewalking spots, I searched Yelp to find a nearby park. Robsion Park was close by ,so hubby and I found our way there. The park is directly behind the Lyndon post office and parking can be accessed using the driveway beside the post office. Posted hours for the park stated "Dawn to dusk." I was surprised by how well-maintained the park is and how much larger it was than it appeared at first glance. There is ample paved, private parking. At the entrance to the park are two large play areas for children. One appears to be for the younger set and the other for older children. There is a half-mile paved, level walking trail around the perimeter of the park with a short paved bisecting walk if one doesn't wish to go all the way around. All of the walking path has trees lined on either side for shade. There are multiple large, grassed areas for volleyball, badminton, hacky sack, soccer or anything else one could desire. There are covered picnic areas and restrooms. The restrooms were open for use, but I didn't go in them. There were panic/help buttons throughout the park for use in emergency situations. This park is perfect for dog walking and also is a perfect park for those who may require level, paved paths. I look forward to returning with my dogs!

Although Lyndon is small and Robsion Park tucks itself behind a few buildings, it is NOT one to…read moremiss!! This park was surprisingly a lot bigger than what I had imagined it to be. There is a very nice walking trail that splits into different directions and can keep you busy for quite a while. I was please to see how neat and clean Robsion was, and it definitely looked like it got its proper maintenance every now and then. There's also a couple nice playgrounds for kids, along with an awesome-looking splash pad to cool off in!

I like hiking. A lot. And I like hiking at new and different places…read more Charlestown State Park is....okay. They have some really nice trails, spread out and across a large area. There is plenty of parking. And I believe that camping is an option. You have to pay to get in, which is fine. But I am highly annoyed that out of state cars have to pay more. Once when I went though, it was in the off season and there was no one working at the entrance gate. We were hoping to pay with a card, and it appeared to be an honor system for paying the $9 on days when the park is open, but no one is working. I was enticed by the promise of Rose Island ruins (a former amusement park/resort. Not actually an island). But as interesting as it sounds, it was disappointing. It has been all cleaned up and sign-ified and it is more meh than I had hoped. I would probably come back more often if it was more like $5 to get in. But with Louisville's copious parks, state and otherwise, and Bernheim about the same distance drive, I'm inclined to stay on my side of the river.

Willow Park continues to be a jewel at the busy intersection at the end of Cherokee Parkway…read more And considering it's been a couple of years since I last reviewed this small park and my son and I got to enjoy its playground recently, I wanted to update this. Along with have a beautiful gazebo, bathroom facilities and some green space, it also has a cute playground area. One very nice touch: The playground is fenced in, with a gate that latches. While you should obviously keep an eye on your kids, this fence makes me at least feel a bit better about letting my son run around in this area when he gets a bit older. In the meantime, we enjoyed the swings. It has one bucket swing, which was great for us. The biggest portion of this area is taken up by a playset that kids can hang, climb and slide on. Benches surround the area, making it great to find a spot to sit and relax while kids play. I would have taken photos, but the area was full of kiddos when I was there this week -- a good indication that this is a good area to play in. The Highlands neighborhood boasts several great parks, and Willow Park is definitely one of them. Don't overlook it when you're making your way around the neighborhood and crave some fresh air.

The canoes are also great to rent but it was a windy day and it kept blowing us around lol. Prices for rental are reasonable as well. The lake is big but you can basically see the whole thing from one end to another. Which is nice if your family is on multiple boats. There is a disc golf course but I only played on a couple holes. The kids playground is a lot of fun and has some unique features. There is a petting zoo as well, basketball and tennis / pickleball courts. So much to do! Looking forward to going back and trying the camping!

Then I happened upon a park I had never known about! Preston Park. It is next to/connects to the playground of the Shelby Traditional school. There is a nice, narrow, asphalt path that circles the park. There are a couple basketball courts, a spot for baseball, some benches to sit on, playground things, some creative and cute yarn-bombing, and a lot of open green space. It isn't big. It isn't fancy. But it is a lovely little patch of green space that has yet to fail to brighten my day, now that I have found it.
