On a cold and wet January night, I was craving something fiery to warm me up and a quick search on Google turned up Silver Spoon around my hood. This place isn't like the Indian/Pakistani restaurants I go to in Manhattan, this is the real deal. You have your choice of several beef, chicken, lamb and vegetable entrees from the steam table as well as many types of naan (bread), kebabs and rice dishes - mostly standard fare. The 2 of us opted for the chicken masala, curry potatoes with (whole!) eggs, and 2 pices of grilled chicken legs and chicken biryani.
First off, I LOVE chicken biryani and many places I went to have never done it right. Silver Spoon does, and the dish practically lit my insides on fire. They don't skimp on the spices or ingredients at all! This is hot, hot heat and soooo good. It has the right balance in the amount of chicken and rice. The chicken masala was also fantastic with its buttery creamy sauce and is just spicy enough (some might call it "mild").
The chicken legs had looked delectable covered in a assortment of spices, but were nearly inedible due to them being rather dry. Perhaps if they were freshly made, I would say differently, but I did walk in at 10 PM. I can forgive this because the meal was otherwise excellent.
One thing I can't forgive is that they didn't have mango lassi at that time!! NO MANGO LASSI!? It ought to be a crime.
Food: ****
Decor: *** (strangely elegant for this type of joint!)
Service: Can't give this a true rating as you basically point and ask for your food to which they bring to your table on a platter. But the gentlemen assisting us were genuinely nice people!
Price: ***** Great value, ample portions at $5 average per dish. At these prices, I was dangerously close to being a glutton.
Four stars overall but that may go up once I return to try other dishes. =] read more
