Positives: beautiful child and pet friendly location with playground right on Lake Michigan. Really nice people staying, for the most part. Fun chickens and ducks roaming free. Old but clean. Comfy beds. Fun fire pit, picnic table and grill at each cabin. Close to Mackinac Island ferry. Owner Aerka lovely and helpful. Her husband irritable and sarcastic. (Avoid him if possible.) Negatives: Plumbing. Toilet cranky and often didn't flush. Aerka did offer to replace it, but we figured it out and managed for the time we were there. Apparently all water comes from one well and depending upon demand, stops working. Water in the cabin turned off completely at one point, and again the next day when I tried to use the shower. Wouldn't really say showering is available. More like an off/on trickle. I stood for awhile with no water and my hair full of soap. Eventually the water did turn back on enough to get it rinsed. Whew! We had the unfortunate luck to stay during the St Ignace car show. The small 2-bedroom cabin next to us was rented by 2 men, a boy and 2 trucks who were joined during the day by 9 other people and 5 other trucks all of which had been modified to make as much noise as possible. These people spent the weekend revving motors, jacking trucks up to change tires and screeching up and down the highway. Owners were present and allowed all this to happen. I finally did call Aerka late afternoon and left a voicemail to ask if this number of people/trucks and behavior fit resort rules, but got no answer. We tolerated it as well as we could during the day, but when posted "quiet hours" came at 10PM and this activity continues we called again. This time, around 11PM, Aerka's husband walked over and asked our neighbors to quiet down. 9 people and 5 trucks had left by then. He came over to speak with me as well and was none too nice. Seemed to have a chip on his shoulder when I described our experience. Although the cabin reminded me of my childhood in Wisconsin, and the location was excellent, we would not stay again after our experience. It's really not reasonable to advertise working plumbing when it's intermittent and a family atmosphere when 7 monster trucks and 12 people working on them is tolerated next door at a cabin advertised for a family of 6. read more

My family and I stayed in the Goose Down cabin which has three bedrooms. While it had enough room for us all, is pet friendly, and the view of Lake Michigan is amazing, that's where the positives end. The water stunk of sulphur and the water pressure was awful. The water tarnished my silver rings. The beds are not comfortable. They do not provide linens or towels. The toilet paper was horrible. One of the burners on the stove didn't work and the cutlery and dishes where not great. No WiFi and in an area where cell phone signal is spotty providing it would be a major plus. We ended up buying a lot of stuff so that our week long stay would be more comfortable. I'm used to rustic charm and grew up staying in cabins all over Michigan. This one was by far the worst. Would not stay here again. It needs major TLC. read more

So I should have listened to the reviews of this place. Sigh.. I knew coming in that the cabins were 100 plus years old and I'm giving this place 3 stars since the view is spectacular. Amazing view of freighters, the bridge at night, the sunset. Breathtaking. Cabins are old and in need of some TLC but cabin #5 worked. The beds are comfortable on the bottom bunks but top bunks can not hold anyone over 100 lbs. my nephew had the sleep on couch all week and he wasn't comfortable. There is no place to put your food so we had to use the tops of the window to store food. The beach is all stones but if you can make it out 500 feet or so you can find some sand. They advertise WiFi but once again it was broken. The past few reviews a month ago gave us warning but we assumed it would work since they gave us no indication of an issue. My sister needed WiFi to work and we are thankful we had data for her to run on a hotspot. So the young lady that works here is so sweet. She tried to get us on her WiFi but they gave every 13 cabins here he same password and it bogged it down. My sister got shocked and burnt her had when plugging in a light and the old woman didn't have any empathy for her or even offered help in any way. Old woman is very rude and she tries another time to get snotty with us but her granddaughter (the nice lady) shoed her away. Beware and take special precautions if you stay here. read more

Posting this review for my dad - overall, not a great stay. The photos on their website are a bit deceptive. They're advertising a rustic charm, but it comes across as an outdated cabin (felt and looked like 1950's), with really uncomfortable beds, and the expectation that you take care of everything while you are there (linens, towels, etc). The floors are about as level as a fun house, causing most things in the place to be oddly tilted. My Dad said we should leave a 2 star review, because ultimately, it was a cabin with a fireplace on a lake. But, we would not stay again for the price we paid - pretty close to a 1 star review. read more

3.5 stars is a more accurate rating. What we pay for is the view and fabulous lake MI access! We are from MN and to get this great of access would cost double with the same accommodations in many places. The beds are horrible. The 1920's called and they want their mattresses back. Seriously awful, but due to exhaustion we surprisingly slept okay with no notable body aches the next day. No bed compares to home, let's be honest. Words to the wise- pack like you are going camping. Bring all you would need minus the tent and pans and then You are prepared for these cabins. We stayed in cabin #1 and are a clan of 5 which meant we utilized the sleeping porch for adult privacy. No electricity on the "sleeping porch" aka screened in lean too. A head lamp would have been really useful. The uneven floors, bathroom made for people of extreme narrow shape only (we aren't particularly large) and mattress in which two people converge in the middle regardless of want made for great humor and stories for years to come. Regardless we would recommend this place and would definitely stay again. The important part is to know what you are walking into. The resort warns you in the website and in the paperwork they mail you- its rustic family style. Bring all your own linens. Which lets be honest is always cleaner and more comfy anyways. The view is worth it, the immediate and private access is rare. We had 3 boys age 9,10&11 with us. They could run outside and play with their football while we cooked dinner, splash around and keep themselves busy while we watched from the large windows of the cabin. It's rustic and great for memory making- good sense of humor required, snobs stay elsewhere! read more

My parents rented a room for 3 nights from you and they were not able to stay the third night.  They gave the keys to us to use.  When we handed the keys over to my brother and sister in law to use to take a shower, the manager took the keys away, saying they did not follow proper procedure.  He was rude and nasty , tried to slam the door on my fingers, and refused point blank to give us the keys, and would not give my parents a refund.  I am very disappointed in this hotel.  My parents paid for the room and they have a right to give the keys to whomever they desire. read more

Kinda cute until you look closely. Nice view but not a great beach. Like other review mentioned, there is playground equipment. Grill and fire pit for each cabin. I didn't dare drink the water. There was a fridge, so that was good but furniture/mattresses were old and tired. You have to bring your own sheets and towels. There is wifi (sort of) and they allow pets so I'll give them two stars for that, and it wasn't super gross but we just didn't feel like we were at a place anyone cared about much. read more

I just spent a week at Silver Sands. The cost for water front on Lake Michigan is very reasonable. Renters do have to bring their own linens...bed, towels, hand towels, etc... The atmosphere is generally nice and peaceful. Some of the plumbing is interesting..e.g..shower knobs on the outside of the shower. The water is clearly well water and smells as such. We brought drinking and cooking water to use. The grounds are beautiful and they have wonderful play equipment for children. read more

My fiance and I stayed a week in cabin number 4! Has a great view and they allowed our 2 dogs to stay with us. The owners are super sweet people. We had two miner issues when we stayed and they got right on it.... obviously everything isn't new but they are cute old fashion cabins. I think the only thing we would have liked different is for the mattress to be updated. It was a little ruff but we still slept fine and didn't wake up sore. It's high enough where dogs can't get up on them unlike the furniture. Make sure you bring your own sheets and towels they are not provided. However pots, pans, utensils, pillows, and quilts are. We did bring our own blankets and pillows though. Defiantly can not wait to come back! Thank you for giving us one of the most pleasant weeks we've had in a while. We truly appreciate how well you run this place! We put pictures on our fb page and I still have people messaging me about this place. We will definitely be recommending you! read more

Beautiful place. To bad for the like sewer smelling bathroom within a cabin that's falling apart and owners who are only fond of taking your money. No WiFi even thoug they advertise with it. Beds that are older than the owners them selves. We've rented 3 cabins in differend forms of decay. The only thing, is the nice view. The pets they allow, had more freedom than the people that pay for an outdated falling appart cabin. Definitely not worth the price we've payed. And we will never return. You would be better of in a tent with a coolbox. Time and money we'll never get back. Sooooo bad. Words can not fully describe our disappointment. Better ways to throw away you hard earned cash. You can see the other reviews of the cabins, mine is about the interaction with the lady who I assume is the owner. We made reservations based on the rest of our group deciding to go there. The rest of the group got their reservations refunded, we weren't informed they had issues with there reservations. So we carried on, after we got up there I was changing my mind about staying there, so figured stop by around 1pm to see about changing our reservation(basically seeing what I could get back from my 100 deposit). As soon as I walked into the smoke filled office, it was less than pleasant having the discussion. I was told no on getting my 100 back, I had asked about getting 18 back and just pay for the first night as I didn't want to stay there. Was still a NO from the lady. The whole conversation she kept trying to escalate the conversation. Telling me how she had gotten the room ready, I did remind her that the room would be ready for he next person. No avail, still rude and still very crabby. This was for a 2 night rental on a Wednesday and Thursday, they weren't even near being sold out so I am guessing she didn't turn away any new customers because of my weekday reservation. So I would suggest exploring many of the other options in the area, the no credit card, cash only on checkin, no written cancellation policy, etc etc. I normally have no issue staying at any place, but this one I walked away and let her keep my 100 dollars instead of staying and having to deal with the issues. read more

We spent a week in Cabin 11 and the word for the week was "rustic." The cabin was picked up, but the bathroom floor had water on it. We thought it seeped out from the shower after cleaning. Nope, the sink line backed up at the floor when the water was run for more than five seconds. We cleaned up the floor and had to use paper towels to plug the leak for the week. Three days after our arrival the plumbing to the toilet was finally fixed and we no longer had to plunge the toilet. We were not notified, we thought this was "rustic living." There was no hot or warm water that came out of the tiny water heater in our unit. When we spoke to the maintenance guy, he asked us not to mention it to the Manager because she didn't take complaints from guests well and that he would "soften the blow." Needless to say, we were told there was five-minutes of warm water for a shower and that nothing would be done about the poor shower facilities. We've had better facilities at campgrounds. This place has great potential, but as it is currently managed I would not recommend staying here more than one night. read more
