The bartender is enough to avoid this place (unfortunately). She's a repeat offender, hence the review. My family and I love the ice cream shop inside, and we stopped in after eating at Babes before we headed home today. My husband, myself and 2 year old toddler all grabbed our ice creams and went to find a place to sit. My husband suggested upstairs since it was unoccupied, and we happily climbed up the stairs as the bartender watched. We sat for about 25 minutes unbothered, and my husband decided to leave to use the restroom. My toddler and I were sitting and finishing our ice creams when the bartender walked up, stared at us for about a minute, and proceeded to exclaim that we needed to "get our stuff off the pool table" and that "it was expensive and very nice" (we had set one bag of leftovers on the edge of the wood as we were sitting on benches. No one was up there so we were not overly concerned about the placement of our leftover chicken). I moved it immediately and apologized, and she proceeded to lecture me on how nice the pool table was (I have my own thoughts on the value of that table, but that is not important). She then left and walked down the stairs, and about 30 seconds later comes back up. My toddler and I are still sitting there, and she points at my toddler and proclaims "actually SHE cannot be up here. You need to leave. Adults only". I said "alright", grabbed my toddler, and walked my 9 month pregnant self and my toddler down the stairs. We sat two feet to the left of the stairs on the ice cream side of the shop, and waited for my husband to return. We also never saw any adult only signs. After explaining what had happened to my husband, he mentioned the last few times we have come in and he has ordered a drink, she has been awful to interact with. He chalked it up to her having a bad day (or bad month). Overall, if you do go, grab your ice cream/drink and run. She unfortunately takes the ambiance away from the cool stmosphere. This is an interesting place to stop in while walking the square. We could smell the cones from the outside, so of course we had to stop in and check it out. We were greeted when we walked in, and we were able to sample a few ice creams. We ordered the sour blue raspberry and the Smokey s'mores in a cup, which we both enjoyed. My mom ordered a flavored hot chocolate, which she said was ok. I tried the bees knees and the pb chocolate cup. I ended up with the pb chocolate cup one. The pricing for scoops is reasonable. I do enjoy this place, but lots of little things could make it better. Service is usually pretty weak. The bartender doesn't ever seem to want to deal with ice cream and the ice cream people don't seem to ever deal with food. Non alcoholic drinks (like tea) always seem to be a burden and you get one little plastic cup. Refills are spotty depending on who you ask. Menus are kind of hidden and you may have to ask for the food offerings. Food is a bit light in size/quantity but it's more snack-ish than full blown meals. Ice creams are quite tasty, but the criticism is that the descriptions on the coolers are more "names" and less descriptive, so sometimes you're left wondering what exactly what a "Granbury Pirate Supreme" (or something like this) actually would taste like--you can guess by appearance but is that caramel or peanut butter or coffee--who knows without asking? I've cream sizes are a little skimpy for the price, too, though I do recognize they are more craft-oriented and not just Blue Bell, etc. If they could iron out their logistical and service kinks and enlarge their quantities enough to give a decent value, then it's a cute a little place on the downtown square that's quaint and fun. read more

The bartender was horridly rude. Worst service I've ever received. The sign out front advertised warm drinks to-go for walking around with, so I walked in to get some warm apple cider on this 40 degree day. I could tell she had an awful attitude before I even made it to the counter. I ordered my cider and asked to have it spiked with whatever she thought would be best. That must've ticked her off because she literally huffed and said "I guess fireball is fine?" To which I said, "Sure! That sounds great!" She handed it to me in a mule mug (I didn't specify to-go, so that was fair enough). I was alone and had my one year old on my hip, but figured I'd just sit for a few with him in my lap and sip my cider. Well, the toddler didn't want to sit, shocker, so I picked him up and went back to the bar and asked if I could get it in a to-go cup. I even apologized for the (minor) inconvenience. The bartender didn't say a single word. She scowled at me, took my cup, dumped it in a to-go cup and said, "here you go" with the biggest attitude. Make a stop in Granbury! It is the cutest little town, full of great shops. This ice cream parlor was our last stop. We were lured in by the 60 ice cream flavors. I'm obsessed with this place!! Amazing. Must visit. We were vacationing in Granbury and I stopped in because it was billed as an attraction in the town square. I was with my son so it seemed like a touristy to-do. IT IS SO GOOD. Amazing. I went both days we were there. The first time I had the Turtle Torture (sweet, creamy, salty, with surprising chocolate candies and chocolate covered pecans) and the second I had the Local Goat Peach Mule (creamy, real peaches--and a lovely complex, slight sour note which I think is vodka but tastes like a real flavor note and isn't just pointlessly boozy). Both were so delicious. Y'all I am not that big on ice cream, but I want to try about half the flavors these folks sell. Also love the barrel tables with the games. My son was super into that (we were there in the daytime before anyone was on the bar area). We played two games of chess and one game of Go Fish while enjoying our ice cream and the AC. Have only been during the day so I can't speak to the nighttime atmosphere. But I would absolutely suggest this if you're in Granbury for kids and grownups!! Grab a scoops and play some cards. What a fun find in Downton! This cute little place has a great Texas feel to it and the ice cream is amazing!! The staff was friendly and let us take our time looking around before ordering. Service is not super fast or super helpful. Even knowing it's my first time in, when I asked for a cup of water with my meal I was told ok and not that it was self serve in the next room. So I waited on Thursday evening around 5:45 for 30 minutes for a panini, chips and a water, when there was less than 2 people ordering in front of me. read more

This place is just a tourist trap. Horrible over priced food, service is hit or miss depending on when you go. The ice cream is about the best thing on the menu. Sandwiches and salads are sad. The salsa is out of a jar, the queso is ok, not great. Very minimal toppings on the salads, sandwich comes with a small bag of chips. The beer is cold, the mixed drinks are strong. It took over 30 minutes to get the order in a very sparsely populated dining room. When the order arrived the small $15 sandwiches were pretty small and the chicken very dry. Boy I really wanted to like this place. I work-out in the evening and look to cool off with an ice cream cone. I like Pistachio Almond ice cream in a waffle cone and I can't get this at Braum's. I can get this flavor at Mary Jayne's across the street from Silver Saddle, but sadly, they close at 8PM. So, when I learned that Silver Saddle had both my beloved Pistachio Almond ice cream and was open until 11PM, I knew I had found my new ice cream go-to. Unfortunately, the product as well as the pricing will keep me from visiting a second time. A single dip in a cone was almost 6 bucks. Same as Mary Jaynes, but Mary Jaynes Pistachio ice cream is good, while Silver Saddle's was close to being unpalatable. The almonds in the ice cream were so stale I wonder when was the last time anyone had ordered it. I ended up spitting them out so I could at least finish the ice cream. But that was not to be because the sprinkle dipped cone was also stale. If it was made that day, then it was the chocolate dip on it that tasted waxy or something. I can get a DOUBLE dip in a waffle cone at Braum's for $3.49 through the drive thru at any time they are open for business. I will just have to settle for Rocky Road or Strawberry.
