We planned this trip as our first anniversary weekend to get away from the chaos of everyday life and it was every bit of what we needed. Unlike other B&Bs, Scott and Loren's home offers a secluded and private setting where you can enjoy the grounds without having to tiptoe around other guests or wait for a good spot on the porch to open up. It offers a level of comfort and seclusion not easily found elsewhere. Their property is amazing with gardens throughout and a quietness you cannot find at other B&Bs. They are incredibly welcoming to their home and go out of their way to make you feel appreciated. While we were secluded from civilization, the home itself offered all of the amenities you could ever need. We especially enjoyed exploring the books on the shelves, sitting on the porch, looking at the many species of trees and plant life, and perhaps best of all Scott's French Toast breakfast. I cannot stress enough just how wonderful our stay was and how accommodating they were to our last-minute changes. We are deeply appreciative for their hospitality and every little touch they put in to make our stay a memorable one. We will definitely be back for future stays.

My husband and I recently got married at Sugar Hollow Retreat, and we have very mixed feelings…read moreabout our experience. First, the positives. The property is absolutely beautiful. The scenery is stunning, the ceremony locations are gorgeous, the lodging was excellent, and the food was fantastic. Those aspects truly deserve praise. Unfortunately, the organization and communication leading up to our wedding were extremely disappointing, especially considering the cost. Our contract, payment schedule, and amounts due were inconsistent throughout the planning process. Different staff members gave us different information. When I reached out for clarification, I was told their contracts and payment plans were generated using AI and had mistakes. I was promised a corrected contract, but after multiple calls, voicemails, texts, and follow-ups over three weeks, I never received an updated contract or even a reply from Kaleigh. About two months before our wedding--after we had booked the venue over a year earlier and paid all deposits--Sugar Hollow advertised our wedding dates on social media as still available and even offered a discount. I had to contact them to let them know they were advertising our already-booked weekend. Our biggest concern before booking was whether the reception hall would stay cool during our late-June wedding. We asked multiple times and were repeatedly assured the air conditioning would not be an issue. Instead, during dinner the AC shut off and had to be reset, leaving the hall over 80°F with almost no airflow. Several guests had to leave, and some became sick from the heat. The venue had no fans available, and another vendor thankfully brought fans out to help. This was especially frustrating because summer heat is completely predictable for outdoor Tennessee weddings. We also discovered our catering contact no longer worked there only because my emails started bouncing back. No one notified us of the staffing change or set up an automatic response. Another disappointment was accessibility. We booked in part because golf carts were available for our amputee family member and elderly guests, signed liability waivers for them, and then were told just one month before the wedding they no longer offered them. I also strongly recommend hiring an independent day-of coordinator instead of relying on the venue's coordinator. We hired Nicole because she knew the venue, but many décor and setup details we had planned and discussed were missed or incorrect. Throughout the day I had to send bridesmaids and family members to remind her about tasks that had already been planned. A coordinator should be executing the plan--not needing reminders from the bride. Sugar Hollow has incredible potential because the property itself is beautiful. However, the organization, communication, and attention to detail simply did not match the price we paid. Future couples should keep meticulous records, double-check everything, and have an outside coordinator advocating for them. With stronger management, this venue could easily be a 10/10. Based on our experience, I would rate it a 4/10.

It is out of the way down a long driveway, and most likely you'll be greeted by their super friendly dog, Hunter. Jim and Margaret are great hosts, providing freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and lemonade upon arrival. The check-in process is short and sweet and they are available when you need them, but the place is big enough to give enough privacy despite the community spaces. I surprised my bf for his birthday and we came up just for one night. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect. The king bed was super comfortable, and the room had a ceiling fan, flat screen tv, electric fireplace (for ambiance and/or for heat), and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. It was right around the corner from the kitchen, so in terms of noise, you do hear the clinging and clanging of cooking and cabinets/drawers closing, but it wasn't a major issue for us. If you're sensitive to noise, then I would suggest getting a room on the second floor instead. Our room leads off to an external entrance to the back balcony/porch area so we could come and go from the back door instead of going through the house/common area which was nice. There is always access to coffee (fresh brewed in the morning or a Keurig for afternoon) and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Upstairs, there is a small fridge that has complimentary can sodas and bottles of water for guests to have. I put our bottle of champagne there to chill. The highlight of the stay of course was the breakfast promptly served at 8:30a. We woke up to a beautiful spread and shared a nice breakfast with nice conversation with 12 other guests. It was family style, so we passed the food around and around until we were all miserably/happily stuffed. Margaret's famous cinnabuns were really delicious - super sweet and fresh. Overall - Everything was clean and just really done well with nice subtle touches throughout the B&B (ie. light music in the background of the common areas, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom and bedside, foaming bubble bath by the tub with a pillow, several candles in the room to assist with creating a romantic ambiance, super plush robes and Bath & Body Works shower products (soaps, shampoo, etc) to use... We definitely hope to come back and enjoy/relax again in the near future :)

As…read morethe forecast grew more and more grim for that day, we had to make the decision to change venues three days before the wedding. I came across The Barn at Cornerstone and contacted Kim immediately. I was stressed and in full panic mode but as soon as I talked to her she began putting me at ease. She explained that although the Barn was not quite completed she would do anything in her power to help make this work. The day I visited her, the barn had no electricity. We talked through it and decided to rent a generator. The barn was still in progress but was already beautiful and rustic and I could envision something truly special there. Kim and her husband, Ray, worked tirelessly and two days later when we arrived to decorate and rehearse, the Barn not only had electricity but beautiful chandeliers were hung. We had a wonderful rehearsal dinner outdoors at the lodge that evening. The setting was gorgeous and the grounds were lovely. Ray continued working on the barn up until the afternoon of the wedding and Kim attended to every detail and also coordinated with my caterer. She took so much work and worry off my hands and allowed me to enjoy every moment. We ended up having the most beautiful, intimate wedding that evening. Rain fell heavy on the roof of the barn as they took their vows. It was absolutely magical. I know that once the barn is complete it will be one of the best venues around. There are beautiful venues everywhere but you will be hard pressed to find people like Kim and Ray. I cannot express my gratitude enough.
