The nicest campground in the Boone area, we looked at ALL of them for a multi-month stay. Also the only one open year round. Beautiful, wooded campground with spacious sites. We were in a pop-up camper, 30 Amp Service was perfect for us and the bath houses are immaculate...cleaned several times a day & nice and private. Ample firewood and ice available for purchase, and really pretty natural stone fire rings in each site. The night sky is incredible here, star and moon gazing at its finest with no light pollution to spoil the view. I can't say enough nice things about the owners/staff...someone is always onsite and so helpful for anything you might need including camping stuff, area info, and even free nature walks on Saturdays. They are incredible people who are committed to making sure you enjoy your time in the High Country. We learned so much info on the Boone area from them. About 15 minutes drive to Boone and the Blue Ridge Parkway, it was the perfect home base for our explorations. We will definitely stay here when our travels bring us back to Boone. Thanks for the incredible memories!

This was such a great campsite! Friendly people who also respected social distancing and it was pretty quiet. Really cool trails to a trout pond. Many different types of sites, we liked T-10, it's a walk down a hill but it's worth it to camp in the trees. We will be back!

We showed up way past closing time and the owner stayed and waited for us to arrive showing us to our campsite as well as bringing us firewood ! Woke up to the most beautiful view of Boone we have ever seen, campsite it totally surrounded by the mountains and also has their own hiking trails within the campground ! We will definitely be back !

Went here with a group of 35+ and it was great. Adults and kids and everything in between had a blast. We were on the field and had about 8-10 tents, camp fire and grill already at the site. It was overcast and damp most of the time but sitting around the fire, eating and drinking with the mountains in the background couldn't have been a better setting. I hope to go back again with the same group in the spring!

Excellent facility for RV, Pop-up, tent and backpack camping. Clean, quiet, friendly. At 4000' elevation, the air is clean and cool. The bath facilities are very good with laundry and sink for dish washing. There is a cool teepee camp with rustic hotel accommodation, a cabin in the woods with home-style comfort. The staff are bend-over-backward eager to please.

A hidden gem for sure!! The gravel road leading up to it was narrow and uphill but definitely do-able with our 40' fifth wheel. The views are spectacular, it's peaceful, everything you want from a mountain getaway.. The only downside is no water hookup, but we managed- the bathrooms/showers are clean and the water is hot so it was totally fine! We spent 5 nights here and we're definitely visiting again!!

Stayed this past weekend here! We did the hike in camping and loved it! The staff is super friendly and even accommodated our late arrival Friday night. Beautiful place with lots to do around it! Highly recommend !

Dawn at the pond.

This campground is great! The owners were very nice and eager to help and answer questions. The grounds were neat and well maintained even in the remote campsites and as a female solo camper, I felt completely safe and comfortable the whole time. I booked online through Paypal which was super convenient. I was originally booked to stay at the R8 site, but since none of the other remote sites were booked that night, the staff suggested I look around and choose whichever one I liked. I ended up staying at R1 and loved it . It was right by the pond area and had plenty of firewood and kindling already at the site (which the manager said I could use for free). It was in close proximity to the outhouse (which was immaculately clean). The hike was a little steep going down, but not bad if you have any experience hiking with camping gear. I will definitely be going back to Blue Bear. Great place!

We stayed for a week during the last week of October 2013. What a gorgeous place! Steve is a super nice guy and goes out of his way to make sure all of his guest are taken care of. Did I say this place was gorgeous! We camped in a 40ft fifth wheel on site C10. We woke up every morning to a breath taking view. Steve has everything you need and more on site. Shower were great but it sure was cold running back to the camper! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience the beautiful outdoors and get away from the stack em and rack type parks!

God bless you and I hope the sun stays shining for you.

We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

There is absolutely no cell service, though they had free WiFi at the office and dining area. The owners also manage an on site cafe open Thursday through Sunday morning. We tried the Greek Pizza (though you need to preorder) on Saturday night and had biscuits and coffee for breakfast the next morning. Campers were recommending the scones, but they were already sold out by 9 am. Easy access to the trail, so no need to put your bikes on the rack to get to the White Top station. You just cross the street, turn left and hop on the path to the Virginia Creeper Trail. For those who do not want to cycle back up, there are several bike shuttle services to choose from. We stopped at Main Street Sweets and Eats in Damascus mid way through our ride. Don't miss the opportunity to grab a cold brew coffee, cookies and ice cream to get you through the second leg of the trail.

The showers are the best I have ever seen in a campground: hot water, lovely shower heads, beautiful and accurate amenities. We got breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Homemade biscuits or bread, with sausage, or bacon, egg and cheese. They have artisan coffee! The sites have water and electricity. THERE is wifi at the office and relaxed indoor and outdoor seating there. The owners are delightful and knowledgeable about everything from gardening to music to outdoor adventure. This area needs the business with so much damage the Creeper Trail. These roads are great for biking. We saw very little traffic. We drove to Damascus, about 30 minutes, and took shuttle to Abingdon for a great ride back to Damascus. THERE is no food on that TRAIL and ingredients for fresh food was hard to find overall. Some light snacks at the Alvarez station which is about half way to Damascus. The Wicked Chicken in Damascus is great.

Quite a unique experience !…read more I arrived and found my site to have a nice view of the adjacent cow pasture and the pastoral valley below. In addition, this site gave me a great opportunity to practice my leveling skills - usually I am limited to leveling 2-3 inches side to side and about the same front to back. But this site let me cut my teeth on a real all- American challenge - up to 11 inches side to side and 17" front to back! This is what Travel Trailering is all about! If the site wouldn't give a billy goat vertigo - you ain't camping! After I was all set with leveling the trailer, and my trailer tongue was ankle high and my rear kitchen chest high, I feared the fun was over. But then the rains came! Yes! No boring relaxing to worry about - all the runoff from the entire campground was funneled into a single site- and I was sitting in it! Gullies running diagonally under my camper appeared as I watched the downpour progress, giving me the pleasure of using my LevelMate Pro app to gently adjust the stabilizers as the gravel under each washed away with the rain. Luckily the only place I could park my Tow vehicle was downstream from the camper- effectively creating an effective obstacle to prevent the trailer totally washing away and into the New River, should it keep raining. The rain got less and less and for the rest of my stay the camper was pretty stable. B O R I N G, you say?? Wrong Grasshopper! Truly the Sh!tShow had yet to begin! As I was breaking camp, I noticed a guy with huge rubber gloves looking at my site and dragging a 200 foot sewer snake up the hill behind my truck. Concerned that he was going to scrape my pickup with the snake, I assured him I'd be out of his way shortly as I was leaving. He told me I was not impeding his progress and continued his work. So I quickly packed my griddle, chairs, hoses, electrical cords, etc and hitched up. Now I only had to remove my chocks and mountainous levelers and I'd be off toward other adventures. As I was raising the jack to settle my camper on the truck ball, my neighbor up the hill yelled that the flood waters were heading my way - the worker had gone ahead and done his work to let a sewage flood of biblical proportions head my way - the only path any liquid, water, or human waste, could possibly take. I tried to finish but was soon overwhelmed as the former rain gullies turned to fecal canals before my eyes. I had lost the "Beat the Turd" challenge as my levelers, chocks and shoes were flooded by the worker's brilliant timing! He watched as I battled to complete my exit while minimizing the damage. I asked if he knew where all that filth would flow and he said yes- that tried to fix it but it always ran through this site, so I guess he had to hurry to make sure I didn't miss the poop experience by leaving too soon. Props to him! If he had waited only 5 minutes to open the feces flood Gates I would have made it away cleanly, and I would not have the opportunity to spend my Sunday afternoon soaking my chocks, shoes, jeans, and levelers in a nice Clorox solution! So if you want a challenge and are tired of boring camping- you know where to head!!

They have a put putt course, and a very small outdoor in-ground pool, game room & a set of corn hole to play. They had a few events happening on the event board inside the check-in area. Small store inside to get the essentials. My biggest complaint as was others, is the WiFi. We didn't have any signal at our site and it got slightly better as we went towards the entrance. We had to go in town to research anything. I don't except amazing signal but enough to look up a few things here and there. It served the purpose for the weekend. It was clean and free of debris on the campsite it self. The sites are very close together so be conscious of that. We didn't spend much time at the site so it didn't bother us.

This campground is old (circa 1970) but I rather call it nostalgic, it's an old school campground which means it's a little cramped and filled with a little bit of every kind of campers and full timers but I was able to navigate the steep entrance, small driveways and our tight site in my 41' Class A Diesel Rig without disconnecting my toad yes I have skills and a navigator in the seat next to me. The good far outweighs any negative comments I've read, this campground is nestled in a serene setting next to a mountain stream, there are lots of trees that filters the sun light most of the day. We stayed in site 77 a very level asphalt site that was long enough and wide enough to accommodate our Motorhome and our toad. Everyone here was extremely friendly and when the sun sets the sound of cracklin camp fires and the smell of burning hardwood fills the air. As far as ambient goes you'd be hard pressed to find a better setting it's only a few miles from town but a million miles from the distractions of the outside world. The not so good, yes every place has a few of them - the water pressure was horrible but fortunately my onboard water pump supplemented this so it wasn't that painful. The electrical supply was a shared distribution box and it was on the opposite side of the utility panel on my bus so you may want to bring an extension cord I had to route the cord under my RV fortunately my onboard 50 amp cord was just long enough. The sewer and water bibs may be located in closer proximity to your neighbor than to you and there were a few muddy spots around the site that we had to avoid and finally the most stressful part of our stay - exiting the campground back onto Hwy 105 it's like merging on to a super speedway with blind curves it can be a little intimidating. This is definitely a campground I'd book again, we loved the atmosphere and all our friendly neighbors and the staff was amazing too...

The men's bathroom had 3 showers, 3 stalls, 1 urinal and 4 sinks. There's a pavilion where I got to hear live music Saturday evening.
