Years ago they were good but two years ago we went for their famous fish fry and it was a horrible experience. The fish was tasteless and one of the male owners had a very bad cold and was blowing his nose and didn't wash his hands and was serving beer to the waitress which meant he handled the glasses with unwashed hands. Well, to be honest we wanted to eat here sooner during our trip to Higgins lake but avoided this restaurant because of the most recent reviews. We took the risk and this is my family's opinion. I'm not sure if you can get more non local/outsiders than we are, I'm active duty military and my truck has New Mexico plates so the tire slashing thing bothered me. We walked into a sign basically saying seat yourself. We found a table for me, my wife, and our daughter. We were greeted by a nice lady who gave us menu's and said she would be back shortly for drinks and our order. The wife and I got the chicken basket with fries and a side of ranch and my daughter got the Hawaiian style pizza. The chicken baskets were both great (no Chick-fil-A but still good). My daughter (10 years old) said her pizza was in her top 5. I tried her pizza and I thought it was very good and cheesy! We ordered a silver dollar Supreme pizza to go for dinner. Over all we feel this establishment deserves to be judged by ones own experience. After we cashed out I was delighted to see my truck tires had not been slashed . We had our pizza for dinner and the wife really liked the pizza. Called ahead to see how long the wait was, we were told they had no wait so we headed a 15 min drive up. Got their and the parking lot was packed go inside to a packed place. Was told the wait could be 10 minutes -2 hours. Gave our name and how many in the party (4) one of which was in a full leg cast and cant stand for extended periods of time. We were told we could sit by the dance floor to wait and was given a buzzer. We waits 20 min for a table a table opened up and the host without even looking at the book or setting my buzzer off sat the table the walked in after us down with only 2 people. We were told that we could sit and wait for another table. I understand waits for restaurants but i was truly frustrated with the lack of decency to atleast look at the book you have names wrote down in. First time ever in northern Michigan. And I refuse to go to this place ever again. I will drive to grayling to eat. First night is area. And was just having a drink. Waited 20 mins to just get a drink. Place was slow The service is terrible. Wait staff & management is very rude. And to be honest was told if we didn't like it leave. So that's just want we did. The only place in town and they treat the locals and visitors like trash. Don't mind wasting your money on the jukebox. If they don't like your selection they will skip every song. Prioritizing is what I was told. Then I asked for me money back and the bartender threw my money at me. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. This restaurant was super close to our campsite at North Higgins State Park. They had great prices and a nice variation of menu options. We went there twice during our trip. Our favorite dish (by far) there was the Sunken Island Tiki-Bar Jerk Chicken Pizza. Highly recommend! read more

Cash only establishment. So surprised by this hidden gem! Walked in on a Saturday as a party of 4, a few minutes before noon. A large group of 6 guys (already doing tequila shots - good for them!!) had just walked in, along with several families. Our server (I think her name was Shelly) looked to be the only front of house personnel, but she did an excellent job of managing expectations and getting things out reasonably on time. The cowboy burger and patty melt were delicious. The bean burger lacked fun toppings, and the chicken tenders were fine. Decent but limited beer list. Shelly was literally running the entire time. Having been in the industry in a past life, I can appreciate when someone is truly busy and doing a good job and keeping an entire dining room of guests happy and fed. Went there for their advertised euchre night ($10/person). Online post said (and others who had been there confirmed) that complementary snacks would be served. Sign at entrance said same thing. Right before they were set to begin at 7 pm, the manager went to both signs (at entrance to place and entrance to room) and erased the "complimentary snacks" from signs. Ive Been going to the silver dollar for 25 years and have not been happy with the new owner/management.. the service has been poor and some of the waitresses have been persistently rude. The biggest disappointment though, are the drinks. Not only are they much more expensive, but are horrible. Could barely taste the alcohol in my short drink. Definitely feeling ripped off. I used to love going to this establishment especially since it's so close to the cabin, but will no longer waste my time or my money there. :( read more

We arrived on a busy rainy Saturday night and the place was packed. We were quickly seated as there was 1 table that still was available. We were with another couple. 2 people in our party order Nachos with beef. They both liked them a lot both needed extra salsa though as what was provided was minimal. The sour cream was in a push out packet. The nachos were good but not great. I had the mushroom Swiss burger which was good and filling. The fries which were a 99 cent up charge was poor. They tasted old and dried out. The other person had a beef burrito and he loved it. The service was good. The waitress was busy but still was able to meet our needs. This place shuts down their keno with the exception of self serve during their busy hours so if you like keno... be prepared to get your own. We would go back here when we are up again. We came in on a Wednesday around 3:00. The place was practically empty. Maybe four people at the bar. I ordered the Cowboy Burger and my girlfriend ordered 12 boneless wings. The wait was fairly short, probably because nobody else in the place was ordering food. The food was good. The burger was very large and very good. The boneless wings were good as well. I'm usually a once a year visitor to the Silver Dollar during Deer Season. I live in Los Angeles but spend the opening week of the season in Roscommon. We spent the evening here after the opening day hunt. There was a decent crowd after a buck pole contest. The menu was similar to previous visits under different ownership. Our table had a variety of different foods. I personally had the chicken burrito. It was delicious and a very generous portion. I heard the nachos were great, and also huge. The chicken, bacon wrap was liked, and so were the chicken finger baskets. A well cocktail was only $2.50, crazy cheap. The service was polite, professional and friendly...just a little bit slow. Well...we gave it another try today to give the pizza a go. Ordered 2 large pizzas and wings. The wings were just ok..too fatty and not enough sauce or crispy enough for our liking. The pizzas came out and right away sent one back bc it was burnt:/ The other one we kept but tasted like cardboard and not enough cheese. Really had high hopes things would be better this time around. The Founders rubaus was good as always. The waitress was super nice and attentive, however, we sat right outside of the managers office and he passed our table 3 times. After a table sends something back, as a manager, he could have stopped over to ask what the problem was. My wife and I used to like riding our motorcycle here for dinner because the boneless wings were good. BUT the last time we were there, there was an earwig in my straw, and since they use black straws (all unwrapped in a tub behind the bar), it made it into my mouth when I took my first drink. I've been here twice. Bad service both times. Bad food once and mediocre food the other time. The waitress over-charged me on my bill. I used a card to pay my $20 portion of the bill, then charged $23 and said the machine did it automatically. We paid the rest with cash, but she didn't offer to refund us and just walked away. We went to the Silver Dollar last night for dinner. One of the hottest nights this summer. Their air conditioning was not working. It was unbearable. The waitress told us that the manager won't get it fixed. She then mentioned they need a new manager. We quit going there for quite some time as the food had gotten so bad. This is the second time in probably a year that we've been there. Fortunately they must have a new chef as the food is much better. However, having no air conditioning in the summer is unacceptable. Dropped in for lunch with family recently. Service was excellent and the food was a cut above your average bar fare. My husband and I live local and like to give back to the community. Have had mediocre experiences with the Silver Dollar. Last night, we thought we'd give it another try. 1. East side ramp leading into restaurant was very icy and appeared to NOT have been salted. One of us slipped, but didn't fall. This could have been a lot worse than what it was. Lighting was not good either. 2. Took over an hour to get our food for a table of 4 3. Our chicken strip basket came 15 minutes after our dinner guests as waitress dropped our food. 4. Price of chicken strip basket is $9.99. Our chicken strip basket only had 4 small strips and only a handful of fries 5. Took an additional 20 minutes to get our bill and cash out 6. Since coming to the restaurant we have never been asked by an Owner or Manager how our visit went 7. The last 3-4 visits to the Silver Dollar have resulted in poor service with long waits to take the order and/or to get food 8. Not 1 time during these visits with poor service have we been "comped" with any kind of discount off the bill or provided a gift card for our next visit As a year round resident to Roscommon, one would think they would treat their customers a bit better or get to know us. They get a solid 4 stars. This is a newly reopened (same name, new owner) bar & grill. They opened at the busiest time of the year and are trying really hard. Small tables are getting food very fast and larger tables are waiting a bit. There are definitely kinks to be worked out but the name didn't change so the long-timers aren't recognizing the change in ownership. Good TVs inside and the patio doesn't serve food BUT has a great atmosphere for before or after dinner drinks. Give them a chance (maybe two) and you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is no longer closed!! It just opened up a few months ago and I'm soooo glad it did! Hubby and I were on the search for a good bar burger, and buddy, we came to the right place! Sat ourselves and quickly got served our beers by our waitress. Got our cowboy burgers (my mouth is watering just thinking of them), with fries and coleslaw, and got our bill, all in a very decent time. When we left, people started to come in, so our wait for our bill increased just a bit as our waitress was a bit frazzled, but she did very well for herself overall. They could maybe have an extra staff member on hand? It was a holiday weekend, however. I was very surprised by the large amount of craft beers they had on tap. Drinks were fairly priced as well as food. I think both our burgers were $9, which were huge and each came with a large portion of fries and coleslaw. Just a quick thing, I got a water after I finished my beer and it was very obviously well water. Not a problem, just something that a few people might want to know if they aren't used to it. I'm not and it quickly threw me off wondering what that metal taste was in my mouth. The atmosphere of the bar is definitely one we'd want to come back to. The atmosphere is wonderful and that's where it stops. The food was below average the wait staff is young and inexperienced. I ordered the prime rib with the house salad and baked potato. They didn't bring out the salad before the meal they brought it out with the meal so my $20 prime rib set and got cold while I ate the salad and than no sour cream or butter with the baked potato or steak knife to cut the over cooked prime rib. Save your money eat elsewhere but drink and converse around the bar you'll have a much better experience. read more
