Easily my favorite diner and location! The menu has so many options without being overwhelming, and no matter what kind of diet I'm on (or not on), there's always something great to eat. Their shakshuka with burrata is hands down one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever. I've had so many different things from here--the salmon salads, bleu cheese burgers, meatloaf, and even the wings (which totally hit the spot on Super Bowl Sunday). And when I wanted just a little birthday cake this year, I treated myself to a slice of their chocolate cake, and it was perfect. Also, their milkshakes? Elite. Beyond the food, I really appreciate their flexitarian options, the fact that it's always clean, the little jukeboxes at the booths, and how the service is always friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I'd like to mention up front that I'm a "card carrying" Silver Diner member and this isn't the first time my wife and I have eaten at their location in Greenbelt, MD. We both like the menu selection and I like Retro feel to the place, especially the miniature juke boxes at every booth. On this particular occasion, we opted to go early on the July 4th Holiday, arriving before 9:00am to beat the Out-of-Towners who use this as a pit stop. Typically, I like something that comes with pancakes, but needing to watch my carb count, I went with a more traditional Jack Cheddar Omelette and my wife opted to go "off script" and order something she said "she knew they will make it for her even though it isn't on the menu as written"; she wanted the Huevos Rancheros, but instead of coming with Bison - she wanted to have it made with mixed vegetables. When her order came out from the kitchen, they had made it wrong, with Bison meat and vegetables on the side. We informed our waitress of the mistake and they quickly remade her order. I felt a little guilty eating while she waited on her food, but she insisted that I not let my food get cold. Beyond that initial snafu, my wife was pleased with her food, and my order was fine, although next time I think I might stick with regular pork sausage because the alternative chicken sausage patties might have been healthier for me, but really didn't have as much flavor as traditional sausage would have had. Our waitress, who had a penchant for saying "I got you" did a good job of keeping my cup of coffee topped off, which I always appreciate, and our portions (serving sizes) were good - so we both felt well fed. I presented my Silver Diner card at the end of the meal, which I presume earns me points for later use, and gave our waitress a 20% tip before we left. We'll be back! read more

I haven't been in quite a while myself, but this is a long overdue review of my last time dining in. It was somewhat late at night, and I was meeting up with an old Pokemon Go buddy. He beat me there, but I quickly got settled and ordered a tuna melt, which was thoroughly enjoyable! It was soft, melty, and cheesy like it was supposed to be. Just had water with it. Had a good time catching up with my buddy too! The service was fine -- we didn't find ourselves needing to get anything when she wasn't around, and the place really does feel like a diner with booths haha. On several other occasions, I've gotten pickup orders, especially for my nieces, who love their ample vegan selections -- especially the burgers! I don't find myself going too often, but whenever I do, it's a great time. It's in Beltway Plaza, so the parking lot is huge... but the parking for Silver Diner itself can get pretty tight, so if it's peak time you may not always be able to park close. I ordered the veggie burger and a soda, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet the standard I have come to expect. I initially thought the corned beef hash was too salty (Which it was) but then I took it home and scrambled it with some eggs and cheese and it gave me Waffle House vibes and I will make sure to get corned beef hash to go every time! The pancakes aren't buttermilk pancakes, they're pretty standard though. Reminiscent of McDonald's pancakes flavor and texture-wise. The eggs were good! White American cheese, scrambled perfectly. The bacon was only okay, thin cut for reference. My sister had the biscuit, she was upset no jam came with (we got carry out) but otherwise enjoyed it! I usually always get the steak omelette and it's usually always loaded with meat and good tasting real cheese. Always tasted fresh & hot. The water tasted highly filtered which is another plus. As well as the cups looked very clean and there were also no visible fingerprints on them which indicates they're actually SANITIZING the cups here and not just soaking them in hot water like some places do these days. Terrible customer service. This happened TWICE! I work at a lab where we have breakfast catered and needed for an 8 AM breakfast. The first time, I called the week prior to place my pickup order because EZcater's website doesn't allow pickup before 8:30. I called the week before and asked if we can still place the order and pick it up at 7:30 AM. The employee put me on hold to check with their manager. The manager ok'd it and said they had it down. The morning of the event, I go to the location and they don't have the order. They tried to say I probably ordered at another location until I showed them the call log. The general manager was who I spoke to when I was trying to pick it up. Then she apologized and that they'd make the order right then and there. I understood at the time because mistakes happen. However, this morning, was the SECOND time this has happened. Mind you I called SEP 29th and spoke to and placed the order directly with a MANAGER and he confirmed it! I even told him about what happened last time! Guess what happens when I go pick it up this morning? THEY DONT HAVE ANY RECORD OF THE ORDER! Unfortunately, as much as my job likes SD, we will be taking our catering elsewhere. Orders were confirmed. Having it happen once is a mistake, but twice is crazy. I want to start off that I have eaten at this Silver Diner many a time. The service was excellent. The food was very disappointing. Got there at 11:00 am and wanted to order lunch. They had a new "smashburger", I forget the technical name they called it but liked the idea of getting a smashburger. When it was delivered, it was a patty, I would guess a frozen patty. It was bland, even with the special dressing it had. The bun fell apart within 2 bites. Lastly, the fries were warm/cold. It seems like their food quality has been going down the past year or so. The huge salad had kale, beets, squash, Brussels sprouts, red peppers, basil, rocket greens, sunflower seeds, pecans, dried apricots with champagne vinaigrette. I opted to add chicken to it which while kicked it up a notch, I quickly realized that I easily could've done without the chicken because the portion was already way too much to handle!! Leaving me with tons of leftovers, leftovers that I ended finishing 1hr ago at the office. That's how delish it was that it didn't even make it home for dinner!! Still shocked that I had been missing out on Silver Diner fresh local healthy meal options I had to tell my vegetarian lunch buddies at work all about it! I think this is my new favorite hummus and pita place : -) The cauliflower pita sooo good!! If you like hummus, try this one! Liver and onions good. It tasted as it should. It's on the more firm side over melt in your mouth. Some people like it melt in your mouth soft and some like it more firm. This was more firm but still delicious. Kids meals always a winner: bacon, sausage, pancakes etc. The fried chicken sandwich was crunchy and delicious. The cauliflower pasta was sooo promising! I was good, but what took away from it was the oiliness of the dish. I wish they could have gone lighter with that. The star of the evening was the brownie Sunday. Two large scoops of ice cream, vanilla and chocolate drizzled with hot fudge and caramel sauce, over a gluten free brownie, and topped with walnuts. We had a birthday celebration and split one dessert into four. There were plenty of left overs. It's a solid place to eat on an everyday night or a family chill bday dinner, breakfast, or brunch.
