I even made a blog about how hard it was to find black owned beauty supply places with black owned products. When I stumbled onto this place, I saw a black woman at the front working on some things. She greeted me when I came in, I asked her if it was a Black Owned business just to be sure and she said it was. I had just come from another beauty supply place so I didn't need anything but I got some sheen. The I proceeded to go on Instagram and Facebook to talk about it. I think she said they have been there for a year and a lot of people didn't know about it. Likely because the gym that was there is gone. They are a small business and I think we need to support them so that they can get more products, preferably black owned products. There are SO many beauty supply places around here that are Korean owned and we need to do better to support our people since we spend so much money on our hair products. So lets do this yall.

Last weekend three of us celebrating our birthday went to the Fashion and Beauty Hut (behind the Checkers on 450) to buy wigs and whatever else caught our eye. As we were trying on the wigs we were putting them back on the heads and putting the heads back on the shelf where we got them. The owner's male relative (we will call him Jr.) came over to us and told us to put the heads back and ask him for what we want. Understand the wings are not behind the counter and we are not permitted to pick them up and try them on. He then tells us we have to have wig caps on to try the wigs on. We all show him we have brand new wig caps on as we just came from another store trying on wigs. He tells us we have to buy his cap and throws wig caps onto the counter. He then tells us we were getting on his nerve and we could only try on three wigs and we have to "get out". I then tell my friends I am not spending money there. As I walk around to the front of the store to speak with the young lady that was there and Jr comes around and stands behind her laughing and making fun of the fact we were expressing the disappointment in the service. I speak with the owner and the best I could get was he is young and he will talk to him. After this outragous experience I WILL NOT be spending another dime in this store. Customers should not be treated this way at all. No exceptions or excuses.

After using it once, I realized it wasn't a good fit for me or my clients due to the grip and performance. When I returned to the store a few days later hoping to exchange it, I was initially told that an exchange wasn't possible since it had been used. I later spoke with Julie G., the general manager, and she was very helpful. She allowed me to return on December 31, 2025, and exchange the flat iron for one that better suits my needs. I truly appreciate her assistance and professionalism. Overall, this was my first concern in many years, and I'm glad the situation was resolved.

When spoke with store, the manager told me to reach out to the manufacturer instead of offering store credit or a reasonable resolution. As a customer, I expected the store to stand behind the products they sell -- especially for items that were clearly defective and barely used. I would not recommend making large purchases at PBW, as you may be stuck with a defective product and no support. You are better off purchasing online from retailers that offer a clear return policy and money-back guarantee. Very disappointing experience from a business I've supported for years.

On one prior visit, there was a hair sale going on. The curly was $1.00 per foot, but it was a minimum purchase of eight feet. Hmmm. Ok. I'm game. ....time passing... I still have five feet of that stuff left. Whew hew. Today, when I stopped by for a new satin pillow case ($3.99) (heh, just got my 'hur did'), I also found myself drawn to a pair of neon pink lurex leggings. You know, Mardi Gras is coming. In the end, I did not buy them because they didn't have my size. They are a tiny bit skittish about pictures inside so don't look for a lot of those but I will be back to this place again and again. And you should swing by, too, because I'm a fan. Oh, I'm docking a star because of the weird and difficult parking lot.

It looks like they are replacing the old staff with people who do not speak sufficient English, know little to nothing about hair/weave, and are only interested in selling "something" to a customer, instead of helping them find exactly what they're looking for. I came in looking for good quality glue-in hair to match my highlights (which had gone from a ghastly fuchsia to a really cute 1B 33). I also wanted loose curls or loose waves, since I was going on vacation. After roaming around the store for a few minutes, I finally found someone who worked there and asked her to send someone over to assist me. She sends over this Asian woman who spoke hardly any English. Great... After much gesturing, I was able to communicate what I was looking for. She disappeared behind a set of boxes behind the counter and I thought she was looking for the hair I asked for. She was gone an unusually long time, so I walked over to see what she found for me. Turns out, homegirl was on the phone having a personal conversation. I looked at her like "Really?" and she had the nerve to smile and give me the "Hold on, I'll only be a minute" hand. No ma'am. After several more minutes of waiting for her to get off the damn phone, I finally asked the girl at the register to help me. She walked behind the counter and the Asian woman told her she helping me. I said to her, "No, you're on the phone" and told the Ethiopian lady what I needed. She was not much better. I told her the color and style I wanted, showed her my hair, and she proceeded to pull out everything I did not want. I asked for 1B 33 hair, she showed me a pack of the ugliest "33" hair I've ever seen. No 1B in it at all. And it was straight. I specifically said (several times) that I did not want straight hair. She proceeds to pull out other styles that clearly do not match my color. Finally she told me, "Well you should just get 30 or 430, because that's all we have". Wait...let me get this straight. Since your supply is inadequate and insufficient, I should just go out with my hair not matching and looking a hot mess because 'that's all you have'? Ok... The experience I had here was unacceptable. And it is not the first time the customer service has been lacking, but this has definitely been the worst. If you don't have what I need, then say so. If you need to take a call, then say so. Sistas spend way too much damn money in here to be bothered with this kind of foolishness. The customer service was the main reason I'd travel unfathomable distances to spend my money here. Those days have come to an end. They can kiss my money goodbye.
