She walked me back to a room and told me to lay on the bed. I struggled to get on the bed, no offer for assistance from her. I asked for something to put under my knees as laying flat on my back is painful. She slapped a rolled up towel on the table. The facial wax was the most painful one I have ever had. Worst waxing experience I've had to date. Like many of the reviewers who had a negative experience, I was also fooled by all the amazing reviews. I booked a Brazilian with Melissa. On the day of the appointment, she asked to move me up because some of her other clients were "sick," so she had earlier availability. I told her it was fine and that I'd come earlier. When I got there, there was no one in the front. I waited a while before she came out. She said hello (probably the only thing she said) and immediately walked me back to my room. I used the restroom, came back, undressed, and waited for her. When she came in, she seemed rushed, swung a cart over, and immediately started laying down strips. I hadn't even had the chance to ask her some questions I had about aftercare. I'm not new to waxing either, but I wanted to hear her opinion. After finally getting a question answered, she kept ripping and laying down strips back to back, pulling without any care or making the skin taut. Again, she didn't ask how I was doing or if the wax was too hot. She seemed very cold and like she wanted to get me out the door as fast as possible. The whole time, I was flinching from the careless hair removal process. Mind you, I'm someone who's gotten waxed before, and while I understand it's not the most comfortable thing, I shouldn't be in a cold sweat from the pain. I checked out and left, assessing the damage at home. Some of the areas she waxed are extremely raised and red. Considering how rough and aggressive her waxing was, she somehow still left a bunch of stragglers, which in the past, waxers have had the courtesy to go back and check for or tweeze out. Nothing of the sort happened here. I am also still sore and tender and have pain hours after the appointment. I was hesitant to leave this review too. I've seen that with any bad review she receives, she replies in a condescending manner and often flips the blame onto the client or gaslights them into thinking the service they had was good. Instead of taking constructive criticism and making things right, she argues. It's spineless and sad, especially in this industry. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT go here. Unbelievably the best waxing service I've ever received from Melissa, she did my upper lip and my eyebrows. I originally desired to wax up my upper lip, but the process was soooo soothing and calming, that she sold me on getting my eyebrows touched. I was having debilitating pain down my leg and a friend referred me to Dr. Randy Baca for chiropractic care at Silk Integrative Medicine and Spa. Within a few visits he relieved my pain which was amazing! To me he isn't just a chiropractor, he is a multi modal practitioner who is highly gifted in several areas of medicine. During a chiropractic visit I received different treatments depending on what I needed like ultrasound, acupuncture, and soft tissue manipulation. Each visit depending on what I needed he treated me fully. Both my husband and I go to Dr. Baca now. We learned that he also does bio-identical hormone replacement therapy which we had been doing with another practice down south. I was on too much testosterone which was resulting in heavy facial and body hair growth. Because the other doctor uses blood tests my levels weren't accurate. Dr. Baca uses spit tests AND blood tests and got me all balanced now and on all non-synthetic medications for the first time in my life. I feel amazing!! My husband also was on HRT with the same practice down south. He was not being treated properly by the other doctor and was having some issues. Dr. Baca was able to correct his imbalance by being gifted in diagnosis and treatment for men's HRT. On top of that he also is an artist with Botox! I have had Botox before but was giving up on it due to cost and results. I tried one more time with Dr. Baca and he is the best injector I have ever had. He used very few units but placement was perfect. I have had the best results ever with his talented knowledge of muscle movement. I had a 12:30 appointment. Was running 5 min late and called Melissa to tell her and she said it was fine. Mind you I am pregnant and had Braxton Hicks contractions which is why I was late in the first place. I walked in at 12:36 and was made to feel like I was this terrible person even though I called. That she needed to call the next person to make sure it was okay which made it even later. I drove 45 min to this appointment because the reviews were so good but she was condescending and rude to me and when I told her I was frustrated about the fact that I did call and there was nothing in their confirmation email about a late policy, she accused me of yelling at her which I definitely wasn't. I ended up leaving because I couldn't believe how I was treated. You don't talk to people like that. I would understand if I didn't call but I did and she said it was ok. And she cared more about being right then being respectful to her customer. read more

It's been about 6 months since I last visited Silk, but I used to go here regularly for about 3-4 months for lash extensions. I've contemplated about whether I wanted to post about my experience here, but I feel like others need to be warned so they don't receive the treatment that I did. I had never had lash extensions before, and chose Silk based on their yelp reviews. When I went in for the first time, I wasn't greeted or made to feel welcome like other reviewers had experienced. However, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and wanted to proceed with the appointment. I told Melissa that this was my first time ever getting lash extensions, yet she NEVER ONCE asked me what look I wanted and immediately went to the bed and the process began. I have sparse lashes that stick straight down, and Melissa put a beginner's set (so only ~75% of my lashes had extensions) of classic lashes on me. When I saw my lashes, it looked like someone had put a cheap pair of false spider lashes on me. There was no volume and it didn't look good. However, being my first time getting lashes, I honestly didn't know what to expect. I didn't speak up, paid and proceeded to book my next fill appointment in 2 weeks. Another interaction that occurred over the duration of several fill appointments also stuck in my mind. At the time, I was going through a bad breakout of acne. It could have been a combo of hormones, changing weather, stress induced, etc, but obviously I noticed it and was trying my best to get my skin under control. During one of my sessions, Melissa asked about a particular makeup product I was using and then inferred it was causing my acne. I was a little taken aback, considering that one's skin and acne is a personal struggle: I came to a spa to get my lashes done to relax and feel pretty. I understand that my face and skin are in close view, but I didn't appreciate that my skin struggles (which already made me self conscious and that I was well aware of) were being scrutinized when I never asked for another opinion. As my skin slowly got better, Melissa would make comments like "Oh did you change _____ product? Your skin looks better" over the course of several appointments. Well no duh, I was trying so many different treatments, and acne can take months to YEARS to heal and clear up. Again, I never asked for someone else's comments and opinions on something that can be very personal. Lastly, my lashes hardly lasted throughout my entire time visiting Silk. They would look good for maybe 3-4 days, and then start falling out horrendously. By the time my 2 week fill came, they were almost all gone. This is despite me following to a T all of the lash care recommendations: no oil-based makeup removers, no mascara, waiting 24+ hours after getting them done before getting wet, etc. I don't know if it's a ploy to get clients to come in for fills more frequently or what, but when I talked to other friends who got lash extensions elsewhere, they told me it was NOT normal for lashes to barely last a week. Because this was my first lash extension experience, I didn't know that this relationship I had with my lash lady was not typical. After a few months, I decided to discontinue coming here, since I didn't feel like I was respected or valued as a client. My desires were never once asked or considered, I was not treated well, made to feel even more self conscious, all the while paying them for this subpar service. If anyone else is considering going here for lash extensions at least, be fair warned and I hope that you'll have better luck than I did. read more

I'm a guy, and used to deal with the whole bushy eyebrows/semi uni-brow thing. I started waxing them, when my ex (she worked at a salon) talked me into it. They've looked great waxed, as they are not bushy, and the semi uni is gone. That was when I lived in DC. I had a hard time finding a new place, until I found Silk (Melissa is awesome!). She was able to find that balance of "clean" but not too "metro" in terms of waxing my eye brow area. She also saved me a potential mess of skin damage, as I planned on coming in for a wax, whilst on Differin (Acne treatment). She knows her stuff, and is also ethical (saved me from potential scarring/skin damage). I definitely plan on coming back once I'm off Differin for a month. read more

Ive had this done many times before and never had this experience, one looked darker than the other. She also got wax in my hair line and my lip wax was very painful!!! This is not a professional! Went here based on good reviews. Must have been written by friends bc I had a way diff experience. Melissa was NOT friendly and butchered my eyebrows. I walked in, no introduction, just "follow me". I had to ask her if she was Melissa. She didn't talk the entire time, awkward silence. I tried to make conversation but her responses were short & tone was irritated. She over plucked and left holes- blaming it on the last person who waxed my brows. Now I have to fill them in- I told her I didn't have time for that. When I left there was no "thank you", "have a good afternoon" not even a "goodbye"!! After my CC went through she just said "ok", & looked at me like "you can leave now". I found this place based upon reviews and I'm really surprised at such high ratings. This was the worst experience I have ever had. Melissa was very cold and did not introduce herself and had no interest in talking. Very awkward and made me feel uncomfortable. I was planning on getting my eyelashes lifted and tinted and it was my first time. Melissa did not walk me through the process nor was friendly. I began to feel extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I ended up needing to leave - which was not Melissa's problem. I was so shocked by the lack of professionalism and customer service. She did only charge me for half, which I appreciated tons, but I was not welcomed and felt bothersome here. I felt very alone and was an awful experience for me.
