I'm giving Sila 5 stars primarily for their exceptional customer service. Although their prices may be on the higher end, their techs are knowledgable and when a problem occurred they were quick to respond and fix it, and very fair and reasonable about the billing. Read below for details... My landlords had a good experience with work Sila had done at their own home, and when they saw a special on Angie's List they hired them to tune-up the two boilers in the house where I rent. A tech named Anthony arrived promptly at 8am and spent about 2.5 hours to do a very thorough cleaning and inspection of the boilers. He seemed quite knowledgeable about steam heating systems, which is uncommon. The only downside is that their estimate for replacing several parts (pressure relief valves, pressure gauges) seemed very expensive (although we didn't get another estimate so I can't make any comparison). If I were basing my review only off the tune-up I would have given them four stars because of the seemingly high estimate, but I'm giving them 5 stars because of their customer service in dealing with a problem that occurred right after the tune up... The morning after the tune-up the house was a chilly 58deg. I called Sila and arranged to have Anthony call me back, which he did in less than 5 minutes. During that time the boiler turned on after I flipped the shutoff switch a couple times. I discussed what happened with Anthony, but there was nothing obvious that could have caused the problem, so he said to call back if it shutoff again. The boiler ran and warmed up the house but sometime later that day it shutdown again. When I got home late in the evening the heat was off and the house was 57deg. I checked everything obvious, and tried the shutoff switch again, but had no luck. It was 9pm and waiting until morning was not an option, so I left a message on Sila's emergency service line. A tech named Al called me back within 15 minutes. I asked Al if he could help me troubleshoot the problem, but after 20 minutes we had exhausted what could be done over the phone. Al informed me of their fee for an emergency service call, but also agreed without hesitation that there would be no charge if the problem turned out to be related to the tune-up. Al gave me an ETA of one hour and actually arrived a little early. He began methodically testing the boiler and eventually discovered a loose connection in the pressuretrol, which was fixed by simply tightening a screw. There's no way to know whether the screw was accidentally loosened during the tune-up, or whether it was loose beforehand and by coincidence the connection happened to become intermittent after the tune-up. Al had spent a total of about an hour but decided not to charge for the service call, because of the uncertainty as to the cause of the problem. read more

The Sila team excelled in all areas of the installation work they did, including accommodating our specific requirements about system and condenser siting, conduit placement and overall neatness of installation to be highly efficient yet unobtrusive. Everything went where it was supposed to, all work was incredibly neat, clean and the fit/attention to detail is as good as you will ever find. Whatever carpentry or cutting work was needed was first rate, right down to matching paint color and using matching downspout conduit for the outside piping to the condenser. Cleanest installation I have ever seen. Having pulled 4 quotes from varying well-respected firms, we opted for a High Velocity system because of the open floor plan and unusual layout of our contemporary Cape and conventional systems would have required incredible amounts of inside finish work and soffitts to accommodate all the duct work. Bids varied widely with an overall spread from low to high of 20k and while all evaluated the same amount of air to treat and relatively the same size of systems need to do the job, the execution plans varied greatly which contributed to the wide cost variances. If you need an after-build HVAC installation and can afford the extra do-re-mi high velocity systems still do cost over conventional, you should proceed with no second thoughts or concerns about whether you have picked the right contractor for the job. These people take old world pride in their work and whatever extra cost the actual system did require was offset by no reconstruction or interior finish work in our case. The treated air outlets are small 2" circular ports that are ceiling-mounted or high up on high walls and the air return registers were placed up high on walls where you will not even see them but where they do a great job of pulling in the hot room air. The systems start and run very quietly and the reports of loud whooshing air movement are not the case here in our home, probably due to the location of all the vents high up in our open walls and ceilings. We had one hot day this fall to run-in the system after it was installed and it cooled down the house and more importantly really lowered the relative humidity in less than 90 minutes, then ran for about 10 minutes each two hours to maintain it at 78 degrees. Sila advertises that the systems have a 30% greater ability over conventional AC to pull moisture out of the air and they mean it. We live on a river and the relative humidity in the summer on hot days can hit and stay in the 90's...This system really does extract lots of moisture from the air. These guys are pros and demonstrated time and time again they cared about me as a customer. If you have the experience we did you will never regret the extra cost involved to install this system and get it done right. read more

So I have a busy life as my job forces me to travel a great deal and I don't get much time at home. I had Sila come out last June to find the issue with my AC system. Turns out I had bad filler valves on my unit and all my refrigerant had leaked out. The tech told me it would be $950 to replace the valves and recharge the system. That included the service charge to show up and the leak diagnostic. I felt the price was fair to high but glad to get the AC working for the hot summer. Summer went well and unit worked well. Last week my wife called me to say the AC was out again... I was less than amused. I made the call the Sila to try to get work done on warranty. The gentleman on the phone told me its past 30 days and I would have to pay again. I agreed and made the appointment they snuck me in as I had a tight schedule being home. So the day of the appointment came. The tech Ken showed during the window after calling 30 prior which was super awesome as I was able to get local errands done and not worry about missing him. Ken showed up and listened to my story and was very respectful and understanding and overall highly professional. After giving me my venting time, Ken grabbed his tools and was able to quickly diagnose my issue as low refrigerant. He refilled the system and took a quick look at the service fittings as he thought they may be not fully open and could have caused the refrigerant to leak out, he was correct. He did all this work at no charge because he wanted to make sure I was happy. I know that Sila has more than a few techs working and they are all basically independent guys working for a large company. I have to say that Ken is probably one of, if not the best one they have. Highly professional, knowledgeable and has a great deal of patience for people. I can highly recommend his work and the Sila name after this experience. It is good that they stand behind the work and try to keep the customer happy. Fingers crossed the valve was the issue and I get thru next summer.... read more

It's not a happy time when you need these guys, but they did exactly what we wanted for exactly the price they quoted exactly when they said they would. We have had a recurring problem of our furnace shutting down in extreme cold weather because the original builder routed the condensate drainage pipe on the third floor furnace out to the edge of the eave and then down an outside wall. When the condensate in the pipe freezes so that it can't drain, it trips a pressure switch in the furnace and shuts it down. We know this because it always happens when it gets really cold, and always clears up as soon as the temperature goes up. It happened during the 2015 Snowmaggedon, and John came out to see what he could do about the short term problem. Nick then came out to assess it, and we discussed a long term solution of rerouting the condensate drainage to the inside of the house, down through two inside closets to the basement. But we didn't do it because it was going to be a $1,000+ job and make a mess. And it warmed up, so the short term problem went away. In Feb. 2016, we had a couple days of -30 windchill, and sure enough it happened again, and then went away the next day when the temperature when into the 50s. I called Nick back. He came out the next day, looked over the situation, and gave me a $1,500 quote, which sounded about right to me. He said he could get it done the next day at 7:30 am. Josh and Brendan showed up right on time, did the work professionally, and were out by 1:00 pm. Nick also came out to check on and to make sure they had the right parts. What really impressed me was how much more concerned about cosmetic details they were than I, given that this was all going to be hidden in the backs of closets. They made an elegant plumbing solution, and then cleaned up spotlessly (including Formula 409 to get rid of the fingerprints), sweeping down the stairs, etc. Really first rate. Would use them again in a heartbeat if I had to. read more

Sila is the best, and their representative, Mario, is outstanding. Mario has been to my place twice to diagnose a mystery. The first time, he discovered that my electrical meter monitors the electrical use of the unit above me. That unit is 2x the square footage and has electrical heat in the winter, where I have gas heat. Mario listened to my complaints about my high electrical bills, looked at the panels, and verified that my electrical panel in the basement is correctly wired to my unit. Then he looked at the electrical bills and went outside to view the meters. Based on the positioning of the meters, he was immediately suspicious that they were crossed. He pulled the meter on my electrical account, and "Voila!" It's connected to my upstairs neighbor's unit. Mario told me exactly how to report this to Eversource and get the ball rolling there to rectify 19 years' of incorrect electrical bills. Today, Mario returned, as the professional from Eversource figured out that the public meter is tied into my upstairs neighbor's living room and dining room. Mario carefully inspected the basement panels and verified the crossed lines. He then identified the specific breaker into which the other unit is tied. The front porch, front entryway, and basement lights are wired in with that unit's living room and dining room. Sigh. Mario gave me a competitive estimate and a clear write-up of what it will take to resolve this issue. He confirmed that the situation could not be passed on in a sale to any future owner and further confirmed that whoever did the electrical work before (before I bought my place) was clearly at fault. I was happy to give Mario a deposit for the upcoming service work. Mario offered to come back by and check on the work when the crew comes to rewire. Mario has my thanks and my confidence, as does Sila! Thank you for identifying the source of the 19-year-old mystery and making it possible for me to start paying for my electrical use in the future. read more

Everything about the company was 1st rate. I was looking for a quote on a forced hot air furnace requiring lots of duct work. The quote was lower than all the other installers. Ken wrote out the proposal in 15 minutes. I had to wait a week from the other 2 companies. I wanted the work done as soon as possible but was shocked when Ken scheduled it within the next 3 days. I thought this is not real(scam)... I woke up on Friday and was ready for anything. I received a call from the Sila office that they were on the way . At 7:40ish I saw an orange SILA logo on the van outside my house. Raul was parked waiting on the other truck to arrive. Bob arrived shortly and they began work but not before politely explaining the work and communicating with me about my expectations. They worked quickly as team and nobody was wasting energy. I AM NOSY and kept asking Bob and Raul about functions, purpose, and other products that the SILA provided. They were great and in 4 hours time I could see the duct work was almost completed and my old furnace was out of the basement and hauled away by a third truck. A fourth person came to check on the work and ask if I had any questions. The work was completed and the guys cleaned up. I received another call from the office to setup a startup of the unit on Monday. On Monday I received a call from the office that the technician is a half hour away. The technician was great(forgot his name). Checked all the installation and explained the unit. Class, professional, and cost. I received about $2 to $3 service for every $. I am replacing another unit next year and They are getting my business. Oh, 5 years of service is included for the head free investor. My tenant can call anytime and they will service the unit. Wow..Thank you .. read more

I must say there are not many companies around today that stand behind there Products and Services the way Sila Heating and Air Conditioning does. I highly recommend working with this excellent company I purchased my High Velocity Air conditioning system from Sila in 2014 they did the installation and the technicians were very knowledgeable and polite when they entered my home the put covers over there shoes and cleaned up, so you would never know they where there. Initially the Systems was not working properly and they came back twice to correct it. They determined that they had sized the unit wrong 3 Ton was not enough - so they replaced the unit with a 3.5 Ton NO CHARGE. Yesterday I noticed that it was not cooling properly - I called to schedule an appointment and they came 07:00 AM today. The Service Technician were once again very knowledgeable and polite and covered their shoes. They discovered that there was a leak - they corrected the problem replaced a part and recharged the system with refrigerant. This process took some time and the bill was a bit pricey. The technician did discount the bill as much as he could and was concerned about my satisfaction. I called the office to discuss the bill because I felt that a system 4 years old should not leak. To make sure I was happy the office Manager Jonathan enrolled me in a 2 year services agreement - NO CHARGE that covers an annual maintenance call and 100% coverage on parts and labor if something needs to be repaired. A value of $814 SILA goes above and beyond to make sure the customer is Happy! Best Company I have ever done business with hands down!!!! read more

I couldn't be more pleased with the exceptional service provided by Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical. We hired NETR (now Sila) for a heat pump installation on our triple-decker through Mass Save. ~$107k project quoted at 2 months, took 8 months due to contractor errors. Major Issues: - Design Error: NETR's original electrical design violated Somerville setback requirements (i.e. building code). This required complete redesign, Eversource resubmission (~7 week delay), and last-minute neighbor coordination. I had to personally intervene with Eversource management to get the revised permit moving. - Failed Inspections: Electrical work failed inspection multiple times, requiring days of corrective work. NETR pressured for payment before inspections passed, citing "substantial completion." - Settlement Problems: After 8 months, I requested compensation. NETR offered $1,000 and claimed the design error delay was due to "my preference." When I provided documentation proving otherwise, they withdrew their offer to send a foreman to review the timeline, then gave a 24-hour ultimatum to accept $1,500 or face "legal escalation." We settled to avoid further hassle. Outcome: The heat pumps work well now. But the design error, failed inspections, gaslighting during settlement, and 4x timeline extension make this impossible to recommend. NETR recently merged with Sila (now majority-owned by Goldman Sachs PE as of Nov 2024). They pressured me to pay early - do not pay until inspections are closed with the city. This is your primary leverage. On a $100k project affecting three households, we expected better execution and professionalism. Strongly recommend avoiding this company. read more

This company was terrible!! I bought a furnace tune up from Angie's list and had them come out to do the tune up to my furnace that was working perfectly. The tech came out did the tune up and informed us that the burner was to old to repair or buy parts for. He even wrote a card of the service he did and what his thoughts were of the burner and left it tied to the burner. Two months later we had an issue with the burner and I called this company to come service it the customer service person informed me there would be a charge for the call at which time I told her of course there would. She then looked up my account and informed me the company wouldn't service this burner it was recommended we buy a new one. This was a 17 degree day and the burner wasn't working and she refused to send someone to service the burner at all. Unbelievable!! I have since had the burner serviced and it is now giving the same great heat it has always given even though it's over 30 years old. I'm now considering upgrading my heating and water system but I would never work with this company and I think their tune up coupon was a scam!! I'll be sure to inform everyone that needs furnace or A/C service not to go with this company and when I have my 9K brand new system installed it won't be through them either!! If there was less than one star that's what I would have given them. Just like there service and customer service a BIG ZERO!!!! read more

First let me say that I have never written a review good, bad or indifferent. Never felt motivated to do so, however I could not let this opportunity. I am in a field where customer satisfaction is key and Sila and Tony surpassed any expectations I had. Tech was running late on scheduled day. I was promptly notified and we rescheduled for the next day. Since I work from home it was not an inconvenience. Service was a standard check on my boiler and water heater. Technician Tony arrived promptly. He was actually the same tech that came back in October when my boiler wasn't working at all. It was his professionalism that prompted me to schedule maintenance on my equipment. During the course of service corroded valves were discovered - one actually broke off when attempting to be turned off. Tony offered a few options as to what could be done and explained the advantages, disadvantages and costs of each. He worked quickly and when I went down to check when he was done you wouldn't have known anyone had been there working. I mean it's just an old basement so finding something on the floor would not have been a big deal. I am so impressed with this company that I am contacting them after the New Year to enroll in a maintenance plan. And for me that says a lot. I would not hesitate to recommend - actually insist - to anyone that needs the services Sila provides to use them. read more

I purchased a deal on Yelp last year because one of my AC units was acting funny (has some delay coming on sometimes). The problem comes and goes so I didn't use the deal till this year thinking maybe they would not find the cause of the problem because the problem is not always present and has not been acting up recently. So I made an appointment for AC unit tune up for the two units in my house. The appointment was between 1-3 pm on August 7th. Sila agent called me around 2:30 pm saying that the technician was running late. I said I was home and it would be fine if the technician was arriving late. Then they called me around 4:10 pm telling me the technician was on his way. John G. arrived around 4:30 pm and did thorough check ups of both air handlers and compressors. He explained everything clearly and told me that since both units are working but 12 years old plus use the discontinued R22 coolant, it would not be recommended for me to spend money fixing the old units if something goes wrong. It is very difficult to find someone who is trustworthy and not trying to sell you things and services you do not need or screw you up with some big expense on units that are already out-dated. John G. also found the reason why one AC unit has delayed start sometimes. This is the second time I used the service from Sila. I have been very satisfied both times. Highly recommended! read more

I found Sila on Yelp and bought the $89 for $169 deal for a gas boiler service for our new home. Because they are so busy, I was not able to get an appointment until over a month later. However, I received a call one day when they had some time and asked if they could come by that day to service the boiler. I said yes! Bill H arrived within the time frame they had given me. He was very professional. Put on shoe covers without asking and since It was raining outside, he even cleaned up the water in front of the door. He serviced the boiler then showed me how old the boiler was and how because of its age, it qualifies for a maintenance agreement. He left the paperwork for me to sign up for the agreement but did not pressure me to accept it right then, which was great. I did call them back to sign up for their maintenance plan and asked if I could buy another $89 yelp deal as it is essentially for $169 and they said no, not for a plan. Kinda bummed out about that as the dollar amount is the same so I should be able to buy a deal for the plan as well! Anyway, scheduling was great. The fact that they called me back and were able to send someone earlier was awesome. Bill H was awesome. If only they let me buy another yelp deal for the maintenance agreement, I would be the happiest person ever! read more

Early Tuesday morning, my hot water tank burst. We were unable to find a plumber to install a tankless water heater. Luckily, I stumbled upon SILA on the web and decided to give them a call. I must say my stress was relieved almost instantly. The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely polite, kind, and respectful. Not only did they provide reassurance, but they also promised to resolve my issue. Although I was initially skeptical, I received a call shortly after hanging up, notifying me that someone would be on their way and would arrive within 30 minutes. David arrived and assessed the situation, drained the water tank, and assured us that he would return the next day at 07:30 AM. As promised, the following day, their foreman (David) arrived with David and Connor. In just a few hours, they successfully installed our new tankless water heater. These individuals were highly knowledgeable, kind, effective, and efficient. Their professionalism was commendable. I will certainly utilize SILA's services again in the future and will not hesitate to recommend them. Thank you, SILA. I look forward to collaborating on future projects. read more

We have worked with Sila for many years. They installed 2 hot air gas furnaces at my South Boston rental property a few years ago. They have serviced 4 systems each year. Last month, they installed 2 new gas furnaces. The sales rep was great to work with and gave us a substantial credit to make the numbers work for us to install the 2 systems. The team of 7 arrived early the next day, installed each system, then an inspection by the lead tech was done after that. The job was done in one day. Everyone was and always is very professional and very good to work with. They do the job and clean up after. They provide 24 hour service which I need having a rental property. They are reliable and I can always get someone to go out to the house no matter what time it is. They always call you right back when calling after hours. The prices may seem a bit higher than other companies for emergency or any service but it's well worth it because they respond and show up. They also offer many specials for tune ups, plumbing, etc. I highly recommend Sila for any of your heating, air conditioning, and plumbing needs. read more

My wife and I bought our house a year ago, and knew our heating system needed to be replaced in the next couple years. This winter it started making noises and we decided to bite the bullet and have our unit replaced. Sila was our first call and they had their salesman, Sam, at our house within a couple days. He was very knowledgeable and helped us make the best choice for us and our specific home. We financed the unit with a mass save loan, which took a couple weeks as we expected it would, but once the loan was finalized Sila got back to us immediately to schedule the installation. We scheduled the installation on a Thursday, and sure enough our heat shut down that very night. Not only were they able to reschedule for that Monday, but they had a service technician at our house Friday morning to restart our system to get us through the weekend. The installation, done by Christian and Gage, went smoothly and we had our heat back! From beginning to end, Sila provided great service and accommodated us in every phase. We would highly recommend their services. Thank you Sila! read more
