We have used Paplia a couple times for urgent plumbing requests and they have responded quickly and done good work. However, they are very expensive and push the boundaries of being honest and fair. We recently had a leak in our main drain pipe in the basement and called Papalia. They charge $99 for a consult, but it can be used towards repairs. They diagnosed the issue and then wrote up a proposal to fix it for $900. It sounded expensive, but we already paid the $99 and didn't want to start over again from scratch so we agreed. The plumber also misled us about how simple the fix actually was. It ended up taking him about 20 minutes to replace a 3-foot section of pipe with PVC. He also "forgot" about the $99 credit deal and tried to charge us $1000 and we had to call him on it before he would agree to honor the agreement. So they fixed the issue, the job seems to have been done well. But we way overpaid and every step of the interaction felt designed to mislead and extract as much money as possible from us. Papalia has done a good job providing annual maintenance on our HVAC system for the past 10 years but my recent experience was not good. Usually they provided a 4 hour window for scheduled service but this year it was 8 hours (8am - 4pm) and after waiting at home for 4.5 hours I received a notification from Papalia that a service techniction from Heritage Home Services (a company I never heard of) was on the way. Papalia always provided a detailed written report on the condition and work performed, with the most recent reports showing that the system was performing well. Heritage gave me a verbal report that the system was working okay but there were potential issues including a picture of some light rust on the ac coil base (not uncommon due to condensation). I received two quotes: one to replace parts for $3500 and another to replace whole system for $18,000. Either Papalia was not doing a good job maintaining the system or Heritage is trying to sell me unneeded services. read more

My heat in the basement wasn't working and they came to diagnose it for a fee told me there was no coolant which indicates a leak all of which are true then told me that it would cost me $7000 to refill the coolant! That's right $7000 at minimum not including trying to look for a leak. When I called another company they told me that I was getting scammed completely and that is a staggering amount and completely outside the realm of possibility. I heard that private equity possibly bought them and now they're doing what they typically do which is try to overcharge. Be careful.!! read more

I have been a customer of Papalia Home Services for close to 10 years across two homes, and unfortunately my most recent experience ensures I will never use them again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When my heat stopped working, I called for service and was told there would be a $99 trip charge that included a full diagnostic, and that I would receive a 30-minute notification before the technician arrived. The technician showed up without any notification.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were not home at the time, but allowed him access to the house. When we returned--just 6 minutes and 41 seconds after he arrived (confirmed by security cameras)--the technician immediately asked for an additional $280 to continue the diagnostic that I was already told was included. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I declined and called the main office, I eventually spoke with a manager who stated this was "standard practice" and that if I didn't like it, they would simply leave. The tone was rude, dismissive, and entirely unprofessional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On top of what felt like an attempt to upsell--or frankly, extort--me, the technician's behavior was unacceptable. He had a strong body odor, refused to remove his shoes, tracked mud through my home, and became visibly angry when I declined the additional fee, even making threatening gestures toward my cousin. I will tell anyone considering Papalia as there home service provider to stay away. I would give a negative 10 if I could. They may be violating a new Mass law. So here me out with the whole review. Recently they had to cancel 10 minutes before an appointment for AC tune up for an emergency. Then they tried to reschedule a month out. I refused and they came 2 weeks later. Then I got 2 estimates for the A/C unit. I chose 1 and had an appointment for last Thursday and that morning they canceled said no technician available. I was then supposed to have the appointment tomorrow and I received no email or text per usual. This is the biggest part that people be aware of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you call the number you are talking with an AI bot. You ask to speak to a human and you get workers who are remotely answering calls and I went to cancel my contract and wanted it done now. The person doesn't have the authority to do that, they have to send it to the main office and I would have to wait for a call back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I then called the Attorney General's Office of Massachusetts, and I found out recently a law was passed for customers to have an easier way of dealing with companies so they can get services, billing, and general ?'s so that I didn't waste 3 hours of my day dealing with AI bots and no human customer service that has the authority to cancel an appointment let alone a service contract without putting in a ticket and wait for a call back. When I spoke with them and told them what had happened, I asked about filing a grievance and they said do it because they may be in violation of the new law and I am hoping to get not only fines against them but a suspension of their licenses. Contracted Papalia Home Services to do a full replacement of 2 A/C units and 2 gas furnaces. Day one ended with water damage in the upstairs bedroom due to leak in the condensation line from the new attic A/C. Day 3 ended with an emergency call to National Grid due to a gas leak in the basement furnace. This happened after I questioned the supervisor about the smell of gas before he left the job site. During a "routine" water main flushing in our neighborhood, sediment and pebbles backed up into our water lines clogging all the cold water lines reducing water flow to a faint trickle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Papalia and they had someone on their way in just over an hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Two very friendly and honest plumbers came out and gave a very reasonable quote. After investigating the problem they realize the damage was far more extensive and they would have to come back to finish the job. They made sure we had a working toilet, shower and 2 sinks. TLDR; professional service but with a very steep price. I called Papalia services to switch out two leaking valves on my kitchen faucet so I could replace my faucet. The team that arrived did a great job. Fast and got things up and running quickly. My primary complaint is on the price. The 150 dollar call fee usually goes to the first few hours of work and travel time. In this case it's just a straight charge. All other work on top of this. In my case they were running a promotion so it only cost me 75. After that they charged almost 300 an hour. The original quoted cost was over 700 dollars...to change two valves and strap on a new kitchen faucet I had already purchased. I discussed the price with them and they came down to 600. I was up against a deadline so I asked them to go ahead with the work but I won't be calling them back due to the price. read more

Papalia replaced our furnace and air conditioner with a new heat pump. The estimate process was easy and prompt. The installation was done on exactly the date promised. A good-sized crew did the entire installation and removed all the old equipment in about 7 hours. They explained everything we would need to know, and they connected the thermostat to our wi-fi for remote controlling. Six months later they did the seasonal inspection. They didn't just change the filter and dust the equipment, they actually performed electronic diagnostics on the equipment. The system has worked flawlessly and we will continue to use Papalia for maintenance in the future. They also provided us enough documentation to get a state rebate on the heat pump purchase with no difficulty at all. We have used Papalia many times. We have always found them to be available with first rate service. In today's environment, one thinks that it's nearly impossible to get someone to the house to "just" repair something "simple". Or, if it's an emergency, you may not get an experienced Technition. Most recently, we needed a leaky toilet repaired and an outside spigot replaced. I didn't have any expectations that someone would be available any time soon. I called Papalia just to get on the schedule for hopefully sometime before August. 3 days after my call, both the toilet and the spigot are up and running. That's amazing, but even more surprising was how flexible Clara and Crystal were with the situation. The toilet repair was more complex than expected and they got on the phone, found the parts, gave me options, and just plain got to it. I highly recommend Papalia, and will use them again. I called Papalia to investigate an ongoing and frustrating issue with the cast-iron plumbing system in my 70-year old home. While I offered a slew of crazy ideas about how to proceed, during our phone conversation Mike suggested we begin with a videoscope of the main line to see if there was anything obvious. He was very upfront and said 'there's a high probability we won't find anything, but we really should start there.' I agreed and appreciated his honesty. Nick arrived on-time and it wasn't long before we found a complete break in the PVC pipe under my front yard just before the septic tank. Along the way we also noticed that the cast iron sewer pipe under my garage slab was in terrible condition. We decided to fix the septic pipe AND replace all of the cast iron piping throughout the stack and the sewer line. Needless to say it was a MAJOR and complicated job but my wife and I were fed up with the old system. While it's unnerving to have your plumbing system in various states of disarray for multiple days, I never once worried that it wouldn't be done properly. The entire Papalia crew was amazing. Every morning I received a text message when Peta and Tom were on their way and I even got text updates if they were stuck in traffic. Every employee I dealt with had a great attitude and a smile on their face. No matter how many questions I asked, Peta and Tom took the time to answer them. That means a lot and that's not always what you get when you hire someone. As a side note, initially I put down a deposit for Papalia to manage and sub-out the septic portion of the job, but I eventually decided to go with my septic company. No problem. Papalia refunded my full deposit for that portion and I had a receipt of the refund within hours. That, among many other things, proved to me that I was dealing with a reputable company that's run incredibly efficiently. Are they the cheapest? No. But I felt as if I knew of all costs before the work began. I knew what I was getting into and there really were no surprises. In the end you get what you pay for and the peace of mind that came with every interaction I had with the people at Papalia was priceless. Would highly recommend this company. When he arrived at the appointed time, he explained that he had figured out a way to make the needed repair at less expense, but might be some inconvenience for me where it was to be installed. He gave me a choice as to how to proceed. I accepted his less expensive approach. Not only did he finish the work quickly, he did two smaller jobs for me (explaining what I could do on one of them if the same problem arose again) and was personable and professional at all times. Just over a year later, the leak is still happening, and they told me that since it's been a month past the warranty, we have to start over. I asked to speak with the manager, and when he called back, he offered to waive the dispatch fee but insisted on charging me a $240 troubleshooting fee.
