0/10 first doesn't even look like Indian food, I couldn't even believe they serve food like this. The "butter sauce" taste literally like spaghetti sauce. The minced garlic inside the naan bread was just hilarious. Waste of money. The rating of this store is a complete lie. This place should be at least below 2.0.

So happy I was able to finally try this gem! So they did a nice renovation to this new spot. It's cozy, plenty of room to sit and there's another place to try in here. They own both spots... the other is called French Fry Heaven. I look forward to trying it. So, this place is like a Green Chic Pea, Chipotle, basically you have options to choose from. So here's what you do: 1. There's 3 options to choose from Roll, Bowl or Platter and I picked "Platter $8.99" 2. Pick your base (rice) = Sigri Rice 3. Pick a protein = Chicken Tikka Masala 4. Pick a sauce = Sigri Dal 5. Pick a salad = Cucumber and Radish 6. Pick a chutney = Mango Cilantro 7. Pick a Naan = Garlic And it comes with a SAMOSA!!! Yes!!! Everything was delicious!! Why 4 stars then? I want to give it a 4.5. So, I've had many chicken tikka masala and I like when it's a bit saucy. This didn't have any sauce at all, but still tasted good. I'm going to come back and try the other proteins. I lovvved the samosa especially with the mango chutney. The naan could of been warmed up more. Also one of the owners "Om" was great to come out and talk to us..... I can't wait to come back for more!

I enjoy this fast casual Indian spot. It's a quick tasty meal just wish they would have a salad option that doesn't involve rice but rather lettuce or spring mix. This is my third time here and I haven't been disappointed.

My friend and I ordered samosas, a small snack for our walk. The employees were superb and followed proper COVID-19 precautions. Although the restaurant makes everything in-house, its food was completed very quickly. The mango cilantro chutney was probably the best chutney (condiment) I've had with a samosa. The chutney was sweet, tangy, and a kick of spiciness, a perfect bite. I can't wait to try other items from the restaurant. My friends who attend the neighboring university suggested trying their rice bowl, including a selection of protein, various sauces, and toppings.

I wanted to find an affordable Indian restaurant for the longest. I've finally found it here! I was so excited to see a variety of things on the menu and I was interested in all! I got a platter with basmati rice, chicken tikka, butter sauce with garlic naan and cucumber and radish salad. They even gave a snack. I chose the samosa. Everything I had was amazing! I didn't find the garlic naan to have any garlic though. Looked like it was just butter naan. I can't wait to come back to try their other menu items. Next, I'll definitely be trying their wrap!

Still just as amazing if not better. My favorite place around campus! There is so much good to say about Sigri! I wish there was extra credit stars. I am already planning my next stop in. The people here are so welcoming and it feels like you have walked into a family members house. Before getting into detail, I highly highly recommend you checking out this restaurant. The flavors are unlike any other restaurant in the area. **bonus they deliver!!** awesome selection for vegetarians too! Okay let's get down to what we are all reading this for, the food. I have broken it down by category since each aspect of this meal is worth talking about. Rice: The Sigri saffron rice bursts with flavor, It tastes delicious. Naan: made to order naan is fresh and incredible. Can't go wrong with original or garlic. Proteins: The paneer which is a seasoned cottage cheese was incredible, has an amazing and delicious kick to it. The grilled veggies had amazing flavor and for a second almost convinced me to become vegan of this is how good veggies can taste! The lamb had so much flavor and spice to it, I have never liked lamb before today and my whole life has been turned around. The chicken both spicy and not were so juicy and flavorful. The chicken was my absolute favorite protein. There was a special the day I went in for tandoori steak which was absolutely unbelievable I hope it makes it into the menu eventually. Sauce: I absolutely loved the butter sauce. The vindaloo sauce is spicy and is a great addition to any bowl. The Caribbean curry also makes it to my list for best sauces to choose from. Kachumbar(sides): the beet had a hint of mint and was delicious. The cabbage carrot had all the right flavor and consistency. The cucumber and radish was refreshing and went well with the spicy proteins. The weekly special was a red onion sweet pile of heaven. Chutney: the mango cilantro tastes like a dessert. It went well with everything, if it wasn't improper to drink a sauce I probably would. It is that good. The roasted pepper was great and went well with the rice. The Sigri hot sauce was the perfect amount of heat and flavor and the tomatillo mint was an interesting new flavor I have never really had before and I enjoyed it greatly. Drinks: the mango lassi reminds me of my childhood. It is a yogurt based drink with the perfect amount of mango flavor to it. It is the star of its own show and makes a great addition to any bowl. The rose lassi the kids enjoyed. It is also yogurt based and very complimentary to the meal, it has a unique flowery taste absolutely something worth trying! Their special was a grape lemonade and it was unbelievable. They used fresh grape, this is the first time I have ever had anything flavored with fresh grapes and it was incredible. I'm already craving more. Overall, I could keep going on about how delicious, incredible and amazing the food is. **Shout outs to Ohm, Nina, Joy and Michelle for making my experience so welcoming and enjoyable! Thank you. ******

Great to now have Indian food available in a "fast food" type venue! Stopped by on a Sunday, and since it wasn't very busy the food looked somewhat tired and dried out. The friendly fellow behind the counter assured me it was fresh, so I took a chance! Ordered a chicken Tikka bowl with Vindaloo sauce, which was quite tasty! Check it out if you're looking for something different!

Wow! This new place serves Indian food in a fast-casual style. The restaurant is inviting, the staff is pleasant and the food was delicious! The food is served similar to Chipotle where you get to build your own bowl. Each bowl is around $7.50 and so fulfilling! I love this place because it's the perfect cross between a traditional Indian restaurant and a fast food place. JP was very informative and helpful with describing everything to me! It's also very affordable and in a nice location! I can't wait to come to this place again!

Not a super fan of Indian food but enjoyed everything I have tried from them and love that they have come to our city. They are located by Rutgers Univetsity so they can get packed during lunch time and parking during the day can be hard so if you are trying to drive here I would recommend coming with someone who can stay in the car. Their concept to me is like Chiplottle. You can get a wrap, bowl, or combo. I always get the combo. I have tried their rice with lamb and their spicy chicken. The meat is always flavorfull and cooked perfectly. Their coconut sauce and butter sauce have both been delicous, but my fave is their mango sauce that comes as a side. I put it in my samosa, meat and naan. Oh their garlic naan is amazing. Samosas are also really good. Honestly cant go wrong with anything here. Their mango lassies are so good my bff has become obsessed with them.

Newark has needed an authentic and delicious Indian food for so long and Sigri has finally come to answer the call!! So this place is definitely a fast-casual Indian cuisine but each dish has such high standard and authenticity, it's super yummy! I was here for the soft opening and was able to sample a couple of the dishes and I was pleasantly surprised and super happy I tried this place out! The manager and chef actually came out to greet each customer and made sure that we all liked our dishes and even asked us for our opinion for changes - WOW Customer service!! So we ordered a bowl, I had the mixed rice that included safron and some spices with paneer and grilled vegetables, a garlic butter naa, with two types of slaws, one was the onion one and another was the cabbage and carrots, vindaloo sauce on the side and mint chutney! OMG it was amazing! For $8.50 this place sure does not disappoint, there was so much food and the quality of each item was on point. The rice is the most flavorful rice medley that I have ever tasted with a slight hint of spice, which paired really well with the paneer and grilled vegetables. The paneer was so fresh, it had great texture and had a great smokey flavor to it. Paneer typically does not have a lot of taste but mixed with the flavorful rice and the grilled vegetables this dish does not disappoint! FYI, I am not a vegetarian and I found it absolutely wonderful! I didn't even miss the concept of having meat at the meal because everything was flavorful and delicious. I also ordered a lamb patty on the side just because I really wanted to try it, this was the MOST flavorful and JUICY lamb patty that I ever tasted. Seriously I cut into it and wow the juices flowed over my rice and ....OMG ...im drooling...it was so good!!!! The lamb itself was seasoned so well, I literally could eat that all day. Now I like spicy food so that is why I double downed on spice with a spicy curry - vindaloo and wow. The vindaloo curry alone with just the naan is fantastic and with a small bites of the onion or cabbage mixture makes is a textural heaven in my mouth!! I was able to try my friends order of another curry flavor, I think tiki masala and it was good but I just enjoyed the vindaloo soo much more. I mixed all the dishes with the mint chutney and wow...it was fantastic! This place has great service, fantastic food and I will definitely return!!!

So I came here with my friend the other day spontaneously since we got out of a meeting later than we thought and we were both hungry. My friend LOVES Indian food and I just heard about this place opening up down the street from our job, so I figured why not take him here! There's only street parking so make sure you carry change or download the parking app. Once you find parking, this place is easy to find on university ave, it's right across from boom boom chicken and the RU fat sandwich shop. The interior of the space is very spacious and open. They share the space is french fry heaven so if you come with friends who aren't fans of indian food, they can grab that while you grab some sigri bbq! The staff at sigri bbq are AMAZING. super friendly and helpful. they explained to me why their name is sigri (which means oven), how they make naan, and how to eat the food to get the most out of the dish (flavor wise). Food wise, we've tried it ALL! LOL. We started off with the samosas with the mango and bell pepper dips. The samosas were really crispy on the outside and really juicy on the inside. The mango dip was my favorite (brings sweetness to the samosas) while my friend liked the bell pepper dip which is really creamy. To drink, we got the mango and rose lassi and omg, the rose lassi was absolutely DELICIOUS! I highly recommend getting this lassi (especially since it's free when you buy a bowl and check in on yelp) because you genuinely can't get it anywhere else. The first bowl we got was the mac & cheese with grilled chicken. It was very filling but not heavy like other mac & cheese dishes so it leaves you energized without having that food coma like symptom afterwards haha. Next, we got the butter and mint chicken over jasmine rice, which was okay; the butter chicken is tomato based and the chicken had a bit to kick to it. The lamb curry bowl was my friend's favorite. You HAVE to eat everything together (the beets, cucumber salad, lamb, curry, and rice) to get the full flavors of the dish (absolutely delicious). The third and last bowl we got was the hanger steak and omg, it was soooo good!!! The meat had sooo much flavor in it that it genuinely melted in my mouth haha. Lastly, there are two different types of naan; regular and garlic, with a bunch of different sauces. My favorite was mixing the sauces and adding it to my bowl for extra flavor. Right now they don't have standard bowls yet, and you can customize what you want in your bowl (like a indian version of chiptole), but if you don't know what you want, just ask the staff and they are very willing to help you out! Overall, very great experience. Highly recommend :)

Visited Sigri for lunch with a group of friends from work. It is one of the newest restaurants around in Newark at Rutgers campus and has become pretty popular in short time. The restaurant can be dubbed as an Indian Chipotle serving awesome food with great ambience, quick service and reasonable pricing. The staff was very friendly and suggested me the choice of sauce for the meal. It may get a bit crowded during lunch hours, but the lines move pretty fast and there is ample seating as well. They also have an open bread kitchen where one can see live Naan making in the Indian ovens called tandoor. The menu was very simple and had great choices for each course of the meal. I found the place pretty vegetarian friendly. For each order you can choose between bowl, roti or platter type. For platter pick a choice of rice, protein, sauce, naan bread, kachumbar (salad) and chutney. It also comes with a Samosa on the side. This may seem a lot of things to pick but it was simple and definitely worth it. Vegetarians can choose between Grilled Vegetables (vegan option) or Paneer for their choice of protein. I wish the amount of sauce served could have been a bit more, found it a tad less for the entire meal. Overall, I have found the food very flavorful and tasty. Recommendations: Rice bowl Rice: Sigri Rice Protein: Paneer Sauce: Butter (Rich tomato and onion based sauce) or Vindaloo (Spicy sauce option) Naan: Garlic Naan Kachumbar/Salad: Cucumber and Radish (Light, refreshing and pairs well with spicy curries) Chutney: Mango Cilantro ( Sweet and tangy sauce to cut the richness of the meal) Lassi: Sigri Special Drink which tends to be some type of light refreshing lemonade or Mango Lassi FYI, one can also order the food online on their app and skip the line to save some time. Summary: A must try place in Newark area close to the Rutgers campus for some great Indian food and quick lunch.

Masala Cafe offers a very serviceable menu of South Indian items on a side street just off of Military Park. I opted for the egg dosa, which is not frequently seen on U.S. South Indian menus geared more towards the 100% veg Tambrahm community. The sambar was quite nice and went better with the dosa than the nariyal chutney.

I came here with my boss (from North India, but moved to the USA like 10 years ago), his colleague…read more(who literally just got off the flight from India like an hour ago), and me. We ordered a rava masala dosa (for me), some daal parka, and a paneer situation of some sort. Service is technically counter service, because you go up to the counter, and order your food. However, once you've done that, you take your seat, and they'll bring the food out to you. This isn't a Sit Down restaurant where you're served little plates of papad, or other random things. You get whatever it is that you order, and that's it. Don't think of this as a restaurant in the strictest sense. Think of it more like a cafeteria with seating. There's a few 2-top tables, but most of the space is taken up by large communal tables. The guys at the register are friendly, and patient. They're not trying to rush you while you make your order. Food did take a little while to get to us, as we came after the lunch rush (when they'd likely had to make things fresh, as opposed to having stuff at the ready), which was fine, because we wanted to have a bit of a chat. It wasn't like an hour or whatever, but it was more than 10 minutes. It was fine though. The guy at the counter brought us glasses of water, which we all were craving on that warm afternoon. When the food arrived, it was piping hot, and nicely arranged on the plates. Portions were generous, much like you'd expect from an Indian restaurant. Rice was fragrant, and fluffy, while still being the perfect texture. My dosa was crisp in texture with plenty of fluffy potatoes in the middle, and the chatni and sambhar was lovely on the side. Daal was cooked to perfection: you could still see that the daal had texture (instead of turning to absolute liquid as some places do), but each bean was soft. Spices were well balanced, with just the right amount of masala (ground spice blends) when it was called for. They did NOT have too much garam masala. The issue with many bad Indian restaurants is that they try to hide inferior spices by dumping more of it in there. They have to add so much (because fresh spices only need a little bit to give the taste) that the texture of the dish tastes gritty. It's deeply unpleasant. If you've ever seen an Indian make a face after eating something, and say, "Too much garam masala", you'll know why. It's because we can get that texture of the kitchen heaving on more and more bad spices. However, here at Masala Cafe, the chefs have a restrained hand with the spices they use, and the spices they use taste fresh and vibrant. When I asked my dining companions how they liked their food, the guy who'd just come from India gave me this grateful look, and said that it was exactly like "Ghar ka khaana" (literally: food from home), which is the highest compliment that a North Indian dude can pay a restaurant's food when they order homestyle dishes like daal tarka. Ghar ka khaana is like that stuff you crave when you're out of your mom's house and off to college. It's that stuff that you yearn for when you're stressed out, or going through it. The guy had just been flying for the past however many hours, and had the dubious foods at the various connecting airports he had eaten at, to say nothing of the food in the airline. He was exhausted, and looking rough. Giving him a taste of home cooking at a restaurant basically had him looking and feeling way more energized and happy than when he started. The food was definitely worth the wait, and the service was friendly and relaxed.

My boyfriend and I met here for dinner on a Sunday night. The staff was cleaning up after a huge…read morebaby shower. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because the only off thing about my whole experience was the cleanliness. They could've used an extra person sweeping up and cleaning tables but where we were seated was clean and tidy. Service is a little slow but hey, they get the job done. We looked over the menu for a while and decided to try their dinner combo for two. They have a vegetarian option but we went for the meat. It came with chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, sag paneer, rice, naan and samosas. A great deal for under 40 bucks. We ate and then still had some leftovers to pack up for another meal. The tikka masala was delicious, very flavorful. Their rice is perfect. I had never tried sag paneer but it was great too, huge hunks of cheese swimming in a spinach sauce. The garlic naan was also really good, super tasty. I enjoyed my mango lassi but would probably get it as a dessert next time, it's very rich and takes over a lot of flavors. Since I'm new to Indian cuisine I'll keep trying new places but this one will probably be in my regular take out rotation!
