Just started baby sign language class with Etel last week and I'm already loving it!! This class isn't just simply learning sign but meaning behind each sign. I had so many Aha moments that has been really exciting. Her studio is very pretty too and has lots of toys for kids to play during the class. We got so lucky and I get to have a private lesson with Etel. You can tell how passionate Etel is about sign language, babies' development, and how to build a relationship with babies with communication. Sign language is so much more than just a communication tool. Initially I thought my son who is little over 4 months old will be too young to learn sign languages. But now I know, it's never too early to start stimulating his brain. Even though babies cannot talk, they definitely understand us. Since started the class with Etel, ever time I use simple sign language with my son, I see his eyes brighten up and smiles at me. I am really glad that I found this class with Etel. I was looking into mommy and me class at other studio before too but this class is sooo much better than regular mommy and me class! If you are looking for mommy and me class or some activity with your babies, I highly highly recommend this baby sign language class. She also has class called baby to toddler but that one is more for babies who already took sign language class before I think. read more

I was looking for best mommy/parent and me class for my LO and came across this class. I decided to give it a try. I was a little hesitant initially about sign language but the more I educate myself about it the more convinced I am that it is really important for little ones to improve communication. Language skills take time to fully develop but they can start signing very early on. This helps reduce tantrums and frustration from baby and parent side. Etel has positive and vibrant energy and has useful tips for everyday activities with little one. My LO is full of energy and is constantly crawling/exploring. He really enjoys the music and interacting with the other babies in the class. We also got lucky to have a lovely group of parents/babies in the class. I really look forward to these classes. read more

Love Etel's energy! She's a fantastic teacher and i'm getting a lot out of the class, and I can see that my 8 month old daughter does as well. I truly look forward to the classes weekly and cherish the time I spend with my LO and other mommies/babies in the classroom. I feel that she and I are learning a secret language :) and I use it quite often at home, especially when i want to get my LO's undivided attention. I feel that the classes have been a huge part of my daughter's development, and i can see she wants to communicate with her hands already! I've already recommended the class to a dear friend and would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

More important than music class! Teaching babies to sign to help them better communicate makes for a more confident child. I am grateful to have found this class via pump station. What an amazing amazing experience! Etel's life coaching abilities are unique and magical. She has the insight to understand you, including your strengths and weaknesses, to help you reach your goals and dreams. Her intuitive nature and warmth allows me to be comfortable expressing myself, especially at times where I have a hard time understanding what it is that is really blocking me. She helps unlock my heart, which is something that isn't so easy for me. I took the sign workshop and it was very fun and educational! My baby and I really enjoyed it. We recommend it!

As a new mom, there were things I knew I wanted to try, and teaching my daughter to sign was one of them, so I went to an intro class at the Santa Monica Pump Station with Anne-Michael, not knowing how one teaches infants to sign. I was impressed: Anne-Michael is not only an excellent ASL teacher, but is also beloved by all the children (and parents). She's like an infant and toddler magnet who brings toys, music, and the warmest smile to all classes. She weaves parenting tips into the lessons that have helped teach my daughter more difficult concepts such as feelings, safety (hot stove, hot food, danger), and preparation for transition (anyone with a toddler can relate to how important "all done," "ready/time for..." becomes). At 9 months, when she first started to sign back to us, it immediately cut down on her frustration, since she could not talk. Now that she does talk, she uses both to communicate, often signing and speaking concurrently. However, when she forgets how to say a word, she signs it; when her words are unintelligible to my ears, I ask her to sign what she wants to clarify, and she does. Signshine classes have been one of my, and my husband's, favorite activities with our daughter. If you are thinking about it, at least try an intro course with any of the instructors. I have not taken a class with Mara, but I've corresponded with her, and Mara has been instrumental in coordinating advanced group classes for us with local moms. Mara has been so helpful, kind, and professional, that I'm sure her teaching style mirrors my experience with her. read more

I recently completed the two month course with my 19 month old son. Amazingly, he has mastered and regularly uses 25 different signs. He can literally tell me what he'd like for lunch, or when he's ready to go for a walk. Etel is very passionate about her profession and approaches each class with enthusiasm and positivity- she makes it easier than expected to learn this valuable skill. Tip: Our nanny came along to the classes too- the more people who signed with my son, the quicker it was for him to learn. We'll definitely be back for more. read more
