At that time she was attending a small public school in West Hollywood in a class of 36 children with no teachers assistants. She was completely lost in all subjects, which also led to low self esteem. She was limited to 45 minutes of resources per day, which was really the only help/ teaching she received, the rest of the days were a loss. Through a friend, we were referred to Summit View West. I scheduled an appointment to take a tour of the school (four years ago)and brought my daughter along. That day, my daughter made her decision...she said, "this is the school that I need. I don't want any other school but here! Do what you have to do to get me into this school!"....and I did. Today, my daughter will be entering her third year at Summit View West, and every day that goes by we feel blessed that we are part of this amazing school. Since my daughter started, she has only become more confident in all subjects, and she embraces learning new concepts. The teachers make sure all students are on the same page and, with an understanding of the material before they move on. The administration is always welcoming and hypersensitive to any concerns a parent or student might have. The school is a loving community that looks out of one another. I feel that if anyone leaves a negative yelp comment about Summit View West, it is only out of frustration of not having their child funded by their school's district, or the Help Group does not think the school is the right fit for the child in question. The administration is highly educated, qualified and familiar with making the right decisions that would best fit the students needs.

HE'S READING! If you have a child with a learning difference, you know how awesome that is. The specialized reading programs and small class size is really working for him. His teacher is an Angel! She "gets" my son. She takes the time to listen and has been a huge advocate for him. His school counselor is really amazing. She is so well trained in determining the functions of my son's behaviors, offering him tools/strategies that will help him cope. I will continue to post updates as we continue on our journey.

The staff, the teachers - all incredible and everyone is focused on the same goal - our daughter's academic success. She was starting to disengage at her previous school because it simply wasn't set up to meet her needs. Since joining Park Century, she has transformed. She is thriving, happy, and settling into middle school with a confidence we weren't sure we'd ever see. Middle school is a hard transition for any kid, and even harder when you learn differently. Park Century makes it feel manageable -- because they have a plan, decades of experience and a proven method. We are so grateful to have found a community that sees our child for who she is and gives her the tools, on her timeline, for independence and success. We can't recommend Park Century highly enough.

Park Century changed significantly after the previous Head of School retired and the board brought…read morein a new head who did not have the skills to lead. However, the problem does not fall on teachers or administrators. From my experience many of them are dedicated and hard working. The main problem is the Board of trustees. I'm not saying all, but the few who are making key decisions are doing so with only sustainably in mind. Yes, they are former parents but from decades ago and at the end of the day, they do not care or respect the faculty, administrators and staff that educate the students and keep the school running on a daily basis. They walk on campus not acknowledging any member of the faculty; not even a hello. They only express "appreciation" in emails when there is some change they are making. A few board members came in at the start of the school year after over half of the faculty expressed major concerns about the culture state of the school. They were completely ignored only to be told that the board stands by the former head and essentially they don't care about anyone else. It's all about sustainability. As a result the school lost a lot of talented, experienced and veteran teachers. The consequence? A lot of staff turnover and low enrollment. The faculty as a whole are dedicated and wonderful teachers. The administrators now are great but if the school is to turn around, they need to change certain members of the board who are making decisions for the school. They have no background education in this field. It's a wonderful community because of the people who are there every day making a difference.

GV is our neighborhood school and we hadn't even seriously considered it, until a wise educator friend of mine encouraged me to check out their dual language (Spanish/English, on a 90/10 model that I think is ingenious) immersion program. What we found was a thriving, involved school with a dedicated principal, staff, and parent community that integrates kids and families from all walks of life. In addition to the DL program and learning academy, GV has a special needs program that is fully integrated with the rest of the broader school. We have a library, new computer room (thanks to a generous donor who happens to be a successful former GV student), arts and garden program, and a Dia de Los Muertos program annually that amazes. Not only is my daughter learning Spanish, she's learning what it means to be part of her full community. Also, she's picked up some pre-algebra along the way. Not bad for a humble public neighborhood school, huh? I'm so glad we didn't overlook it, and neither should you, if you're researching school options for your family. Check out grandviewelementary.org for a schedule of parent tours. Go Dragons!

Leaps and Boundz truly provides a space for children with diverse abilities to grow, build skills and confidence. I watched my grandson focus for an hour, develop core strength, and become more aware of how to use his body - traversing a balance beam, learning how to safely climb up and down ladders, jump on a trampoline, and effectively throw, bounce and catch balls. Coach Eric was the most knowledgeable person I have seen working with children with disabilities. He is a gentle guide mirroring behavior and gently encouraging children to build their strengths and become the best they can be. All of the staff members I saw were caring and attentive. And Dominique was so thoughtful offering guidance. I asked Eric about the company's overall objectives and he shared that they want to create community for children, families and adults who might feel isolated. What a noble and necessary goal. I would recommend Leaps n Boundz to any parent looking to help their child grow and nourish a sense of achievement and belonging.
