We used them twice: house to apartment and then apartment to our new house. Items that did not fit into the apartment were stored in a garage at the apartment complex. This included an immaculate refrigerator just under 5 years old,
On the first move day to the apartment , I told Signature that the fridge dealer said the fridge compressor was VERY fragile on the new models, and they dismissed me, saying they move fridges all the time. After the first move, I found the 4 large stainless steel fridge handles just tossed in the corner of the storage, not wrapped or protected, and they were newly scratched. I wrapped the handles.
The move from apartment to house was completed late afternoon on a Saturday. I opened the fridge door for the first time the next day, and heard a horrid continuous very loud noise, which sounded to me like the compressor. Since Signature was closed Sunday, I called early Monday morning. Signature told me in no uncertain terms that the damage was caused by us and not by them. They said it probably was just ready to go out! In addition, there were several dents,1 right in the front.
My fridge was just under 5 years old and did not have 1 scratch, nick or dent, and now it has all of those things. In addition, the finish is messed-up with what I think is tape residue. We are 2 older people living alone, and we take great care of our possessions.
When I called Monday, Adam asked me to wait until the following Monday (a week) because they were heading to Texas on a job. When I called the following Monday, it had to wait yet another day because Adam was not back. I guess there is only 1 person at Signature who can handle things??
On the Tues 8 days later, I was told a repairman would come and I could pay the bill...and that repairman would be able to tell me whether Signature damaged the fridge or it was just ready to break and did so during the move. It's hard to believe someone could determine the exact date damage happened, whether it was during the move or while it sat in storage!
I refused to pay up-front and Signature then agreed someone would come and just look at it and make the damage assessment. The repairman came and said a pan had come loose, and he fixed it while he was here. I later found-out the repair cost was $145.
I also told Adam that, during the 2nd move, a wine cabinet door was jammed, but his mover fixed it, mostly. I also advised him that the doors on my cherry entertainment center were jammed closed backwards and when I opened it, the door just broke off, splitting the wood. One of the movers saw this and had the nerve to tell me the wood was dry so it was my fault. I had previously advised this to Q at Signature the prior week, and I advised Adam this unit has been lovingly cared-for and treated with lemon oil monthly since I bought it...and pure, thick cherry wood does not just split. My handyman fixed it for me for $100, a real bargain. I advised there were also other nicks & gouges on other items. I was so concerned with the incredibly loud refrigerator noise that I forgot these things.
Well, Adam just went on and on about how it was our fault, and he would not quit arguing. He accused me of adding things and told me I was being cantankerous. Then he suddenly remembered what he said was my poor attitude from the first move. This is one company where the customer is not right!!
Adam's next accusation was that I had "rummaged" thru my things in storage, like that caused the damage. Yes, I said we took some cardboard boxes out of the front, wrapped the fridge handles that they did not, and moved some outside chairs that they positioned so they scratched each other ....but I could not even see the items in storage that he blamed me for damaging. The patio set cost $3,500 a year ago.
Best of all was the insurance. We took the free option, which my husband and I thought was a $300 deductible, but it actually limits their liability to $300. Of course, Adam just happens to remember explaining the insurance, which we agree he did not. He did pay the difference between the fridge repair and $300, but he was very, very angry and accusatory. He did offer to talk to his insurance company, but he kept saying he has never seen it happen where a customer got more than $300. So what would be the point?
I would never use Signature again because (1) the first move was careless, jamming together items in storage and (2) I was so tired of arguing and being told I was the problem after the 2nd move. I wish I had listened to someone who recommended another mover, saying Signature used to be far better than they are now.
This move cost me a lot. Signature's prices were NOT cheaper, so there was no bargain. And I will need to get some items refinished.
If you hire Signature, beware, but take detailed pictures of everything because you will be wrong if you have a problem.
