When the optical part of my doctor's office closed, I needed to look elsewhere. I wanted to find a place that accepted my vision insurance (VSP). It was the good reviews on Yelp that led me to visit Third Avenue Eyecare. I am so glad that I did! The customer service and knowledge of both Chaz and Laura were top notch. They were able to recommend frames that fit my face and would work with progressive lenses. I don't know about you, but I get overwhelmed when I go into an optical store and have to choose frames. I love how Third Avenue Eyecare sent an email prior to the visit asking me to visit their website to check out potential frames. I then submitted my choices which were available to try on at the appointment. That is so customer friendly and made things so much more efficient! I was able to search online for frames by brand, type and color. I have never seen that before at an in-person optical store. Such a great experience!

On the other hand, there is a staff member there that can be very rude and passive aggressively judgmental with any option you choose that is not hers. At first, she comes off helpful, then she starts judging you and your choice of frames. To say the least, I felt belittled and not treated with respect. I normally don't go out of my way to submit bad reviews, but I wanted to share my experience to hopefully brace any future or existence customers that go to Carbon Valley Eye Care. It's unfortunate that that one experience is making me contemplate taking my business elsewhere. My suggestion as someone who has worked in customer service for 12 years, it might be a good idea to have some sort of frequent customer service training (there are plenty of online trainings that don't cost much and would really help staff make customers feel respected and welcomed) it's such a simple skill that unfortunately for some has to be learned.

I do highly recommend them both however I cannot say the same for the office staff or the lab that makes their lenses. The glasses I purchased were loaded with all the extras (anti-glare, anti-scratch, polycarbonate, photo sun, etc.) however within a year I noticed that the lenses seemed cloudy and no amount of cleaning made it better. I took them to the office and they replaced the lenses under a 2 year warranty. Thought everything was good. Unfortunately when I went back to replace them again for the same issue (called crazing) I was told that they couldn't honor the warranty on the replacement lenses as the warranty only covered the first pair! Worse yet, the woman I spoke with insisted that the only way that this would occur is if I left them in extreme heat which I had not. It didn't matter, she insisted that "everybody does this when they take them off and leave them on the dash" (something that I never do!). It didn't matter, she was convinced that the issue was mine and only due to my leaving them in a high temp environment - couldn't be anything else! Interestingly my record showed these lenses being replaced twice for this issue and somehow I don't have any recollection of that. I suspect that it really is a quality issue with the lab that this office uses as I purchased a different set of glasses from an eye doctor in Firestone (scheduling issue trying to get in with CV Eye Care) and haven't had any issues with crazing of the lenses for that pair. My wife recently took her glasses back to CV Eye Care for the same reason (first time) and they replaced the lenses without any issue (she spoke with someone else). The lack of customer service from this woman and the real possibility that they are using an inferior lab for their lenses makes it clear to me that I should take my business elsewhere.

It is a breath of fresh air coming from being treated like a number, as a case study for a clumsy intern, or from a jaded doc who barely says a word to educate you, or with whom you must ask 20-questions, before sending you out the door with a big bill. They are collaborative, straightforward, and want you to know what's going on with your eyes, what they will be monitoring, and how your family history may affect you. No surprises. Their bedside is excellent. Additionally, they have paired up with excellent craftsman-opticians to hand-cut, assemble, and adjust your eyewear to custom fit you via their in-house lab. Seth took care of me. He is a master optician and a consummate yet down-to-earth professional who knows his trade. So, you can say goodbye to cheap eyeglasses arriving surreptitiously on your doorstep from the internet. They might do for backups -- but once you've worn eyewear crafted here by these folks, you won't want to go back. I discovered that they do a lot of local outreach and are in touch with both the needs and resources of the community. I hit a rough patch, and they were willing to work with me to restore my vision. You simply can't find that level of care and compassion at a corporate chain like Costco or Pearl Vision, where you're treated as just another customer. Nor at high-turnover practices where providers constantly change or the focus is on volume over care (such as I found at Boulder Eye Surgeons). If you ask me, this level of care and attention is what's needed to balance our backwards healthcare system that treats eyes as luxury organs (and teeth as luxury bones). All that is left to say is that this office and all its staff are quality, hardworking folks who care about doing a good job and genuinely appreciate the people and community they serve. They do not skimp on patient care and satisfaction, no matter your condition. Because of this question, which was unsolicited, my medical insurance was billed in addition to vision. When I questioned the charge, the billing manager told me that I must have forgotten the conversation because they always communicate things like that very clearly. Before this conversation I even made a point of saying I didn't want one of their services - something to do with a picture of my eyes for health - because it wasn't covered under vision insurance.
