Instead of mentioning to me over the phone and getting the bill paid very easily, they said nothing about it and then allowed me to make an appointment... once I got into the office there was an accounting person who ambushed me and told me I had a past due bill and the doctor would not see me until it was paid. I found it very alarming the staff never mentioned the past due bill but allowed me to make an appointment, only so they could get me physically in the building and ambush me regarding the past due bill. Kind of crazy. I responded to this whole fiasco by paying the bill and then finding a new doctor. Bunch of weirdos.

I have come to appreciate, more than ever, the excellent staff he has working for him. When I call the office with a specific message for the doctor, I'm given 100% attention and the info is repeated back to me to ensure accuracy. Generally, I will receive a call from Dr. Merrelli later in the day or I will receive a callback from the person I had given the info to, telling me the answer the doctor had given. This kind of professional attention is very rare from my experience. It makes me appreciate more and more that I'm a client of Rochester Family Practice.

Dr. Fessler wanted to do surgery at a hospital not affiliated with the network (DMC) that I am through. Dr. Fessler saw me in his office for over 5 years as a DMC doctor but refused to follow his contract with HAP (my insurance) and go to a DMC hospital to perform surgery. When I called HAP, they said Dr. Fessler was in fact, a DMC doctor and is required to go to a DMC hospital if he takes DMC patients in his office. I talked with Dr. Fessler's nurse and told her what HAP had said. I got a call the following day from his nurse saying "Dr. Fessler is no longer a DMC doctor and doesn't go to DMC hospitals!" I called HAP and they said that wasn't true, he was still a DMC doctor. Obviously, he had his nurse LIE to me to get rid of me! I have filed a grievance with HAP and feel that what Dr. Fessler did is unethical and illegal. Why would I establish a long term relationship with a doctor that refuses to go to a hospital my insurance says I have to go to? If I had been told that he didn't go to DMC hospitals for surgery, I would have never have gone to him :( Now I'm starting all over with a new Neurosurgeon after 5+ years with Dr. Fessler. I refuse to have surgery with just anyone, so it will be a while and I'm in a lot of pain.

I have a fairly stressful life, and Dr. Shindler suggested that I give it a go to help relieve stress. Well after my first session, I was driving home, hit a TON of traffic on I-275, and it didn't bother me in the least. It was the strangest feeling in the world - like someone took my mean friend away, and I didn't realize how mean that little guy was until he was gone. I have had reflexology in the past, and thought, "sure this is a nice foot massage", but that is not what reflexology is in the least when you're with Ruth. It's just amazing, amazing work. She's passionate, perceptive, kind, and so so much more. I really don't have enough good words to say about Ruth. Give her a try, and you'll try to hunt me down to thank me for making your life awesome. Dr. Shindler is also awesome. He's very easy to talk to, and is open to different ways of healing, including hypnosis. I did hypnosis once, and he will make a recording of the session for you to do at home. This also helped me reduce stress levels - but obviously you can use hypnotism to help with a lot of different issues. Overall, there aren't enough words to express how thankful I am that this office is here... we so quickly brush off things like stress, and other life stuffs, and how they play a role in our health. Nice to see a doctor's office understand.

My mother, who also sees Dr. Haber, had a horrible fall late last year and had to be rushed to the hospital. Due to the specific circumstances of her fall, the police became involved and ruled out the possibility of foul play. The police concluded that this was a tragic accident with no one else involved. Dr. Haber, however, insists that this was not a fall and that my mother was assaulted. This is impossible, as our neighborhood has almost 40 cameras, with a camera capturing footage at the front of my mother's house AND at the back. Dr. Haber insists that a "left-handed person" assaulted my mother and that "he's seen this type of injury multiple times" (per my mother.) My next visit to Dr. Haber pertained to a refill of my ADHD medication. During the visit, I was asked by Dr. Haber if I was the one who assaulted my mother... No, I did not assault my own mother. I was 250 miles north, at my apartment, when her fall happened AND I'm right-handed. Attempts to reach out to this office have been unsuccessful. Attempts to switch physicians have been unsuccessful, as this office refuses to fax over my medical records for continuation of care. This behavior is completely unacceptable, especially from a physician who sees my entire family. If you're shopping for a PCP, find one that's younger who doesn't treat his patients like shit.
