Seriously moldy cream horn from Sidney Bakery.
Chris J.

Been going here for years. Great doughnuts and dainishes. Picked up a few items a couple of weeks ago. The cream horn was seriously moldy!! Luckily I had cut it first so I didn't have to experience that. Wrote two emails to the contact person, Mike, no reply. Shameful. So now I am posting a bad review.

Easy to Find...

Robust bakery, near the Sidney/Anacortes ferry line. We were there mid-morning, and the selection was starting to dwindle. In-laws ordered boring doughnuts, but I wanted to try more local offerings: Spicy Beef Roll and Ham & Cheese Croissant. They do not gently reheat the savory items, as some places do, so expect to eat everything at room temperature. My vote would be for the croissant. Beef roll was surprisingly mundane, and not spicy at all. Counter folks seemed mostly pleasant, but if you get the baker/owner waiting on you in line, you better know what you want. He got pretty curt with our ladies who were having trouble deciding, and then tried to laugh it off when he saw their eyebrow-raised faces. With baked goods four doors down from your establishment and right across the street, it might be wise to be a little more patient with the el touristos, who are not familiar with your place when they walk in the door...

The most wonderful, fresh donuts and pastries. Always a huge assortment of fresh items and great deals on day old items. Stop in early and try something new (jelly donut today) or pick up an old favorite, like a maple bar or apple fritter, before they sell out for the day!

Jelly Donut (0.75)

Was passing through this quaint little town and discovered Sidney Bakery. One of the things that caught my eye through the window was their jelly donuts! (0.75) They were very airy and not too greasy surprisingly and had some super tasty raspberry filling! Also tried some of their cheese buns (0.55). These were, unlike the Superstore or Safeway variety, very airy as well and super crispy with strong cheese flavourings. Also tried their apple over (2.00) but found it to be more pastry than filling. The manager is very friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Was also kind of cool that they had an autograph from THE David Tennant!

Giant chocolate and red velvet cookies!

I was drawn in by the number of people here and the sweets in the displays at the front - donuts, cookies and breads galore! We bought things here every day during our stay in Sidney and the prices are very reasonable (3.50 and under for loaves of bread, 0.60-1.50 for cookies and whoopie pies, and similar prices for the donuts depending on type and size). Great selection of in house baked sweets - there'll be something to suit most tastes! I found the breads a touch dry, but I was a fan of their sweets. The apple pie was delicious and I have to admit that I got their red velvet cookie more than once!

My favorite Sidney business. I'd buy there every day but then I'd look like a donut.

Charming old-fashioned bakery. Reasonable prices. My kids had a hard time deciding between the many, many options.

The Fickle Fig - Cinnamon Bun

The Fickle Fig

(2 reviews)

Great find in the cute little burg of Sidney. Fairly extensive selection of handmade pastries,…read morecookies and savory sandwiches. They even sell dog biscuits that are baked in-house. Everything looked tempting so we purchased a lot: a fig tapenade Brie sandwich (wonderful flavours, a little heavy on the bread and light on the cheese); a mango danish (delicate, crisp pastry strewn with baked mango chunks); a vegetarian pizza (cheesy and flavourful); and my favourite, an oatmeal fudge bar (like the one Starbucks used to sell, but with higher-quality ingredients and most importantly, more chocolate!). We also got a salad as a nod to nutrition, which was fresh, contained a surprising amount of bocconcini and came with a tasty vinaigrette - a little overpriced for the portion tho. Service was friendly and prompt. No seating inside, but there are a few benches outside where one can enjoy the treats if the weather's fine--and it was. 4.5

The Fickle Fig Express is a cute little bakery serving up some fabulous pastries, along with friendly service with a smile. Located on the central high street core of Sidney, make this bakery one not to miss. I was lucky they had anything left, getting here at 3pm. Cause you know how it is when it comes to bakeries - the early bird gets the worm. The Cinnamon Bun was very good & the Chocolate Almond Brownie - sensational.

Fickle Fig Farm to Flight - Breakfast Sandwich with Meat ($10.50): avoid this bun/English Muffin if you can - rock hard and strange meat flavour!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE I love supporting local and the…read moreservice has always been great here...but the breakfast options keep disappointing - so the value isn't really there, especially with Tim Hortons literally across the hall. === 2. FOOD Breakfast Sandwich with Meat ($10.50) Tried it twice now (see pictures) and both times were disappointing: - Croissant with scrambled eggs and pepperoni (?) was OK, but the meat was a little unusual taste-wise, and the croissant was neither fresh (French-style, crispy outside) nor Costco-style (soft). - English muffin (?) with a fried egg and pepperoni (?) was regrettable unfortunately. There was an interesting spice/sauce this time which made the egg less appealing, the meat was different, and the bun/muffin was so hard I had to throw it out after the first bite. It's other day-old baked goods perhaps, reheated, or perhaps there needs to be a change in how the items are heated? I'm sure it could be improved somehow... Cinnamon Bun ($4.95) Perhaps the best thing I've tried it's alright and I like the addition of the blueberries; it just comes at airport pricing. === 3. SERVICE It's always been polite, professional, and fast. So I want to support them with more purchases, but the food offerings are lacking... === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a food court-style counter, so you walk up, order, and go - the good news is that the limited communal seating is just behind this counter. Wheelchairs and baby strollers fit just fine. Not sure you'd drive here for the food, but if you did, the airport parking lot os spacious.
