A day trip to Venice Beach. We got there just in time for breakfast at the sidewalk Café overcast day and a little chilly. They turned the heater on for us. Luis brought us some coffee and took our order. I had the Georgia O'Keefe omelet. Good breakfast food. This is a lovely place to eat and enjoy watching people. This place has severely gone downhill . I haven't been here in YEARS..and it used to be nice. What happened to this place? It's so overrated now and just plain awful. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. Luis who took our order was the worst. Never came to check on us, never came back (maybe only once when something was dropped off), waited to order some more but he was never to be found--saw him hiding in the corner with some chick he was glued to the hip with. All he did was flirt in the back with this other girl and go on their phones scrolling huddled up giggling and laughing. Seeing from other reviews that workers here just go on their phones, I guess the owner doesn't care. Meanwhile, all his tables were never tended to. We should have changed servers, but from the looks of it, the other server also looked busy and never came back to tend to the other tables. Either this place is short-staffed, or the workers here just want to collect their check and go home. The only people I saw come around were the runners who brought the food over. At least they were nice and friendly. Lazy Luis didn't even bother to drop off anything but had his runners drop off the food--which he will probably tip them cheap. We should have not even left a good tip but I felt bad for the runners. DO NOT come here if you're expecting to get service. You will NOT. This place used to be great but now they got gh3tt0 and wh@ck servers. It's a quick spot to order and get a bite--you might as well order togo. This dude Luis was talking to us so unprofessional like we were his homies or something. He didn't even face us, every time he talked to us or when we ordered, he would just lean in sideways and bend his ear down. What the h3ck? Food is expensive. People are just paying for the view. In fact the view is extremely loud, obnoxious and way too crowded people walking down the boardwalk. Food portion also small. Supper pricey for small portions. The burger was tiny. read more

Was walking along the boardwalk with friends and decided to stop here for lunch/brunch. I got the chicken Caprese sandwich and we got a guac to share for the table. I did enjoy the sandwich but I also wish there was a little more flavor. I feel like there was not enough balsamic glaze - it just tasted like chicken and bread. The service was also a little bland. It took a while for her to check up on us, but when she did she was super sweet. She even brought a cup of water for the pup we had with us without us asking. She was really sweet. I did love the vibes and the location - we had someone on the boardwalk right across from us playing nice guitar music, so it didn't give us a headache. Oh, yes...you'll see it all, and from the comfort of a covered outdoor seating area right next to the boardwalk. But on to the business! Sidewalk Cafe is a pretty iconic place, with indoor and outdoor seating (but you'll definitely want outdoor). They have a respectable beer list (a must!), and some truly unique and tasty offerings on their menu. I had the smoked beef brisket sandwich. It grabbed me right off the bat when I first laid eyes on the menu, so much that I didn't even bother looking at the rest. And I wasn't disappointed. There was plenty of thin-sliced brisket on it, with a delightfully tangy chipotle sauce, and cole slaw packed in! I tell you, it was heaven. The cole slaw really made it. So plan your day at the beach. There's plenty to see and do between there and Santa Monica pier, which is just a short walk down the boardwalk. And then stop in to Sidewalk Cafe for a nice afternoon lunch. It's the perfect compliment to a full day on the beach. PRO TIP: Parking is an issue, but there are plenty of lots on the street right behind Sidewalk Cafe. You'll pay $20 for 3 hours, but it's well worth it for the convenience of being just a few steps from the action. read more

Right in the board walk at Venice Beach we decided to have lunch here! The waitress was so kind they are pet friendly. The first thing the waitress said when she took our order was that she was gonna bring water for our little doggy! She was good on recommending what was best on the menu, honestly they were friendly right from the start when you walked up, greeted you even though they were busy they had good seating and timing when food was done! I ate here 3 times on my 4 day stay in Venice Beach. I asked the waiter the best food to eat and he said spicy shrimp, good recommendation because it was tasty, good portion and seasoned well. I had to take some to go. margarita drink was great too. If you are visiting Venice Beach and need a place to sit down, relax, enjoy the view, this place is where you need to go. As a Yelp Elite member and regular customer, this was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've had. We ordered promptly, yet customers who arrived after us were served first with no explanation. Worse, after we had already paid, we were loudly questioned in front of the entire restaurant about our payment and then followed outside, despite no evidence we hadn't paid.As Black customers, the way this was handled felt racially targeted and discriminatory. No other guests were treated with this level of suspicion.When we tried to address the issue, the GM (Steve G.) avoided the complaint, and the bar manager (also named Steve) argued with me, spoke over me, and dismissed my experience. He even said there was "no discrimination because everyone here is in interracial relationships," which was completely inappropriate and irrelevant. He went as far as telling me "good luck trying to ruin our reputation." This was unprofessional, defensive, and deeply disrespectful. Until there are real changes in how customers--especially Black customers--are treated, I will not be returning. read more

We went for drinks so it hit the spot while we people watched. Only ordered fries and they were warm and not hot. It's been about 5 years since visiting the Sidewalk Cafe and the place and food are still amazing. We came in on May 24th around 10am to start our morning since it was our anniversary! There was no waiting which was a nice surprise and immediately seated by the walkway. I ordered the strawberry pancakes which was very good along with the sausage links. The food was good. Service was fine. The location is amazing. Right on the beach and fun people watching. My complaint.... The person I was with uses a compact mobility scooter & walks with difficulty with a cane. The hostess would not let him in the restaurant with it or even park inside the restaurant against a wall. She made us park it outside and pretty much completely off the property so he struggled. I saw a number of people with large wagons with toddlers welcomed into the restaurant and they were able to pull the wagons up to the tables. Note to management..... please discuss access for people's with disabilities to the hostess. This was on March 25, 2026, shortly after 1pm. read more

I come here alone every time i go to Venice Beach and the women that work here are so amazing! I have had a couple of different servers and each and every time they are attentive, kind, and have such a warm energy. They are the reason I come back! I decided today of all days to write this as I was just there and the table next to me just kept talking to me, when I clearly was not interested in conversation. This gentleman was asking me if i was "a trumper", where i'm from, etc. When my server brought my bill she said "Your drink is on the house, thank you so much for being so patient". She absolutely did not have to do this but it is so genuinely kind that she did! And this is not the only time this has happened! It feels like every time they are thanking me for my patience and it made me realize how many people, like the table next to me, are probably so rude or disrespectful to these women. People watching here is the best with musicians, street vendors, bicyclist, skateboarders, roller, skaters, and Taurus from all over the world. The food here is OK but it's definitely not top notch. The chili cup $8.5 was too salty. There was a piece of bread next to it, but I felt we needed more bread because it was that salty. The clam chowder cup $9.5 had bacon in it and some people like bacon in it but I personally don't eat pork so I couldn't enjoy it as I wished I could've. I think there was more bacon bits than clam pieces in it. The clam chowder was not salty at all. The service here is top notch and the food was amazing. I have family with food allergies and they were very attentive to their needs. I had the steamed clams, New England clam chowder and chili. They were all delicious. The fish and chips are top notch also. The tartar sauce tasted home made and was very tasty. The chicken tacos and pizza were also excellent.
