I used to love getting my haircuts here. Devin did a great job doing what I loved. But once he left and I went to other barbers they disappointed me greatly. I arrived early and was taken at my appointment time. Gillet really hooked up the Cut. He didn't even charge me because I was getting married that day. He was professional and did a great job. Barber showed up 30 minutes late and when he did get in he proceeded to not listen when I told him what I wanted done to my hair. He only asked for a reference photo once and disregarded it immediately after. He actively pointed me away from any mirror until he was done with whatever he had in mind so I couldn't give any critique until then. I'm going to be very honest and real on the yelp review. I saw a guy with a decent cut asked him where he got the cut. He said Side Affects. I Yelped realized they haven't had any reviews, but good images of cuts and store location, my hopes are up. I make my hair cut request for Nick @NickTheFadeBanger (I believe that's his IG) they asked for a $1.50 charge to make the hair cut appointment (which is dumb) I'm from LA, I haven't ran into one barber shop that asks for a appointment fee. I pay the fee of $1.50 and I'm genuinely looking forward to this cut, I mean if you have to "pay" a appointment fee they better bring the heat. So, I walk in on the 15th of June and two dudes are cutting up a customer and looked around the store was clean and had all the vibes, but as I walked in made eye contact with the two barbers as a new customer they didn't say anything to me. The awkward silences and vibe became immediately uncomfortable for me. (Note: this isn't a huge deal breaker, but if you're running a business hospitality is key and making the customer feel welcome is your part as a employee even if he's not your client.) Nick & the Cut: Nick walks in early, and shakes my hand. I put my stuff in the closet and come up to the black chairs, and I ask him if he could wash my hair he's response " I don't think I have time, you'll be good." At that point I'm paying $30 for a cut and you don't have the "TIME" to wash my hair?So why did I pay the $1.50 to book you for a cut that was made at 1:00pm that lasted nearly 1 hour and 24 minutes & most of that you were going over and over the places you already cut. I wasn't impressed with the NickTheFadeBanger or the experience at Side Affects. ( before I forget, he left hair behind my ears, that my girl saw the next day. I definitely got cheated out on $45) Over-All: I rate this place 3/10 They have no competition in seaside and if you came down to LA- they wouldn't last with the amount of skill and talent that's out here. Geo has been cutting my hair for approximately 14 years and has displayed the same, the best and the most passionate customer service I've experienced in a barber shop. I am originally from LA and I have been to several shops. Side Effects is overall the best. Becuase of his expertise and his efficiency in his craft, many come from all over to be blessed by his clippers. He is responsible for my son's first haircut. I've been a client of Geo's for nearly 15 years. He is the consummate professional. When he told me about the conception of Side Affects and to whom he'd be partners with, I couldn't be more proud. The first cut I received from George way back in 2004 was, for lack a better word, life-changing. Even when I lived in Oakland for a year I'd still make the trip down for my weekly GEO Cut. The Shop is clean, welcoming and done with great taste. There are areas to sit and relax, a vending machine (which looks like it takes cards), always good music playing that is clean and void of foul language, (with exception to when Drake comes on. That doesn't qualify for "good music"). Each barber has real skill and can work on all types of hair styles. Great conversationalist as well. Since I'm there every week, I get to see each barbers' work. I've never seen a client get up and look unhappy with the work done. Genuine professional barbers behind every chair. The best barber shop around. I've been getting cut by Geo for 15+ years. He has always been very organized with the way he runs his business. Side Affects is a reflection of his work ethic and professionalism. There have been times I've had to use other barbers in a pinch and no one has ever come close to the quality of cut that Geo provides. I always get asked where I got my haircut at after a fresh cut. The price reflects the quality of work. And when you're always booked solid the laws of supply and demand come into play. I've seen Geo cut hair for 12+ hours a day. He really loves his craft and has molded it into more than just giving haircuts. The shop is phenomenal. They have hair products produced by Geo himself, also apparel from Side Affects GRRR Clothing. This is by far the best haircut I've had in my life. The experience was beyond that of any other barbershop I've had in my life. As soon as I walk in I am greeted by atleast 2 other barbers. In terms of the service itself I book online with Geo. Geo presents the cut itself as an experience he has a unique personality that allows you to open up and fully enjoy the cut experience as if it was the old school neighborhood barbershop feel. The cut itself was the best I have had, I have very sensitive skin whereas some barbers have continued to leave scratches on my head due to the sensitivity. Geo as a true professional noticed the sensitivity I have and adapted the cut while still executing a miraculous haircut. Never do you see nicks or scratches let alone hard lines in the blend.
