On 1/17/26 I went in for a hair cut and I was not satisfied because the older gentleman didn't ask me what kind of fade I wanted. He just started cutting my hair kinda rushing my haircut a bit and it turned out sloppy. There are no prices up anywhere. He charged me $55 for a sloppy fade and a beard trim. They don't accept card only cash. I had a $100 bill and I asked him if he had change. He gave me $40 and said " I only have this at the moment. If you give me a $5 Tip were good." I will not be coming back because a 1st timer should be 100% satisfied with their haircut. read more

STAY FAR AWAY FROM OLDER GENTLEMAN. Ughh where do I start... Went in for a cut and needles to say it was a disaster resulting in me having to go to another barbershop to get my hair fixed. STAY far away from the older gentleman to your right by the window when you walk in. Didn't follow what I asked for was rude about me correcting him and left my sides uneven. Charges $35 for a haircut $20 for mediocre beard trim job. Drove an hour n half for this place and left annoyed unheard about my requests and anxious about how It could be fixed due to how little hair he left on my sides to work with. Thankfully a SKILLED barber at another shop was able to fix it completely. Long story short my impression of the older gentleman is that his clientele is older men and he isn't familiar with or willing to listen or learn new styles for the younger generation. If you do decide to go I strongly suggest giving any barber but the older gentleman as mentioned a chance. Sorry to say it he it NOT a good barber. read more

Disappointed by my experience. Waited 20-30 minutes the barber told me i'll be up next, only to have the barber prioritize a regular customer that just walked in over me. After being informed of this, I decided to leave. The barber grabbed my arm and tried to convince me to stay, but I did not want to wait another 30 minutes. Had planned to become a regular, but this incident has led me to search for alternatives. Would not recommend. Overall Rude Service. read more

went in for a haircut and the older guy pushed my hair back so far then when I went to pay I asked how much it was he told me a price and when I went to pay, he added five more dollars on for himself for a tip when I obviously was not going to give him a tip. I did not appreciate the service done. would never recommend going here to anybody read more

My boys got their hair cut by Donovan and he was great! Not only is he a skilled barber but he was extremely patients with my boys who are 4 and 2. It was my two year olds first hair cut and he was very gentle and patient with him! We found out regular barber! read more

Established in 1996.

As a youth, I grew up in the Monterey/ Seaside area. Went to Monterey High and Seaside High school. However, I became a barber in high school because my parents couldn't afford my weekly request of a haircut. So, in practice on myself, I became better, and better. Eventually, i perfected it and began to grow clientele as teenager. Whereas, my mother and father, decided to put me in barber school to exercise my talent.

I came into The Cut in Monterey for a simple beard lineup before a job interview on Monday. When I first walked in, the barber in the second chair recommended and passed me off to the first chair on the right -- a barber who was literally asleep until I walked up to him. That should have been my first warning sign. Before we even started, I explained clearly that I had been growing my beard for 8 months and needed a clean, professional lineup for an important interview. I also told him upfront I had $30 for the beard service, and he agreed. After that, the barber disappeared for around 10 minutes before finally returning to begin. He lined up the right side of my beard cleanly at first, so I thought everything was going fine. But when he started on the left side, he pushed it dramatically lower than the right with no sense of symmetry or alignment. The difference was obvious immediately. At that point, I basically had to walk him through the cut myself while watching months of beard growth get ruined in real time. The lineup became so uneven that more and more hair had to come off just to try to balance it out. What was supposed to be a simple cleanup turned into me having to shave everything down because the original line had been pushed too low and could not be salvaged. There was also very little attention to detail overall hair left all over my face, uneven shaping, and then asking me "is this good?" when one side was clearly much lower than the other. What really shocked me was at the very end, after the entire experience, he looked at me and said, "You ready for your interview?" I told him straight up, "I'm not even going to the interview because you destroyed my beard." I walked out of there basically BALD FACE after 8 months of growing and maintaining it. After this experience, I went to the Legion down the street to speak with fellow veterans and told them directly: do not go to the barbershop across the street look what they did to my beard. I understand mistakes happen, but when someone trusts a shop with an 8-month beard before an important interview, more care, professionalism, and accountability should be expected. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend The Cut to friends or family visiting Monterey. THE BARBER NEXT TO HIM JUST WATCHED THIS GO DOWN. LIKE IT WAS ENTERTAINMENT TO HIM. IVE NEVER WASTED $30 MORE THEN THIS. IM NOT GOING TO MY INTERVIEW. HONESTLY I FELT LIKE THE OTHER BARBERS THOUGHT OF THIS experience AS ENTERTAINMENT FOR THEM. ANY OTHER BARBERSHOP WOULD HAVE STOPPED ME FROM LEAVING AND SAID YOU HAVE AN INTERVIEW LET ME GET YOU STRAIGHT NOT HERE IT WAS A JOKE NEVER AGAIN.. read more
