This looked like a little ramshackle place. It's in a rundown stripmall that boasts a large laundromat. I only tried this place for convenience since it's right next to the medical supply place I shopped at. The inside is small with a handful of tables. The hostess assumed I was there to pickup an order but I corrected her that I had planned to dine in. Her response was, "oh yeah. You can do that too." The menu had a lot of choices. Too many choices. And I didn't see any combination plates. I was in a bit of a hurry so I ordered the General Tso's chicken because it was a familiar dish to me. The hostess was also my waitress and took my order. She asked what soup and rice I wanted. I didn't realize my meal also came with this. I ordered white rice and I asked what were my soup options. Hot and sour, egg drop and wonton. I chose the wonton. Now, I don't really like these soups, but out of the three, wonton is my least revolting. For the last 20 years the only Chinese restaurant I've eaten at is the buffet on Navarro. So that's the wonton soup I'm used to. When she brought me my cup of soup I noticed it had a chunk of cabbage as well as wontons in it. "Nice touch," I thought. Then I tasted it. Wow!! The cabbage was still firm. Fresh. And the broth was delicious. Not chicken bouillon broth as I expected. Then the wontons... wow! I've never had a wonton this high quality before. Everything about it was delicious and obviously fresh. Soon after, my General Tso's plate arrived. There was enough food to feed my family on that plate. And there were so many veggies with the chicken. Fresh, firm broccoli, bell peppers, scallions, and I believe cayenne peppers. I accidentally bit into one of the peppers and my mouth was immediately on fire!! The sauce was a deep dark red and full of flavor. The perfect blend of spicy and sweet. More on the spicy and less on the sweet. Every bite was delicious. I couldn't eat it all because there was too much food. I asked the waitress for a to-go container. I definitely wasn't going to leave these left overs behind! When she brought me my styrofoam container I told her that this was the absolute best General Tso's I've ever had. First time ordering here. Orange dyed egg drop soup that was very thick and salty. Bland beef and broccoli in a red dye sauce. Garlic chicken was overly spicy and again in some sort of red dye sauce. Fried rice was crunchy and the egg rolls were flavorless. read more

L3 (fish noodle soup) is so good!! The food is cooked by the owners, so you know not only is it delicious but also authentic. The ingredients used are fresh and really make the dish good. The service here is good despite the workers here being busy. It is a great stop on the way to Corpus Christi or the RGV area, or alternatively to Houston to take a lunch break during the long 6 hour drive. Yall, this place is amazing. I always order hot and sour soup...if it's good usually everything else is also. And this was the best I've had since moving from Chicago. In fact it just may be the best ever. I ordered fried dimplings-stuffed full of wonderful pork filling. Mango garlic chicken super tasty and they let me adjust the spice level. Not worth what I paid. I gave hem a second try after a horrible experience. The orange chicken and lo mein were okay. Paid $3.49 for 4 crab wonton or crab puffs. They were just wontons with some weird vegetable crap on top. Probably won't go here again. And they forgot my chopsticks after I called to make sure they'd be in there. This place has yet to disappoint. Everything we have ordered here has been hot, delicious, and in such generous portions that it usually ends up as two meals. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the staff is friendly and down-to-earth. The menu is huge and most entrees also come with soup and rice to really round it out. They boast American Chinese food staples - like beef and broccoli and orange chicken - along with more traditional fare with ingredients like pig intestines or beef tongue. They do delivery and carry out, but it's never a bad choice to dine-in! Overall it has my vote for best Chinese food place in Victoria. read more

to start, the owner does not speak english. i ordered a lemonade and received water with 2 drops of lemon juice. next, we ordered a large hot and sour soup but turned out to be a "cold" and sour soup. we were hesitant to ask to heat up the soup because she seemed hostile. shortly later, she became less hostile, more helpful, and nicer. so, we asked her to heat up the soup for us and she did. the food arrived fairly quickly, but included large chunks of garlic. other than the large condiments, the food was decent. it got a lot better when the owner left and a young american girl (who spoke english) took great care of us. will i come here again? probably not since it is far away from home read more

The service was terrible, I was asked repeatedly if I was ready to order when I was clearly not, after ordering I was completely ignored. Didn't even get my entire order.. My partner and I ordered crab puffs, chicken Lo mein and mango shrimp with friend rice and wonton soup. The soup never came. The wontons were hard and mostly flavorless. The lo mien was gross and slimy. The mango shrimp was mostly sauce and broccoli. There were weird pieces of something in the fried rice and the fried rice tasted bad. I am surprised I didn't find a band aid or something in the food. The lemon in my ice tea was rotten. I would not come here to eat... It's not the best I've had but for the Victoria area it's by far the best. The prices are a little higher for most of the dishes ($8+) but u get a lot of food and it taste great. They r a little under staffed right now, so if it's busy it can get a little crazy. The staff is always very attentive regardless though. We have tried several dishes and all have been delirious. They a quite a few genuine Chinese Sichuan dishes that will spice up your day. I did have diarrhea after having a certain dish. However overall it was a great experience. Large dish amount, reasonably priced. For Chinese folks I suggest you ask if your desired dishes are made for Chinese taste or American. read more

Sichuan Garden on Red River. This place and the clowns that run it are a rip off. We went there last night and the food was horrible. We ordered Mongolian beef. It came out so hot with jalapenos it was not edible. The waitress said I had to pay for it. Asked for the manager and she said it was my mistake not hers so I had to pay. Then we got the General Tso's chicken! It was so over fried that the chicken inside was hard as a rock. The fried rice even was nasty. I mean this food was disgusting! Worst food I have ever tasted in Victoria! And the girl at the register threw in an extra dose of rudeness! The owner could not care less about reviews or word of mouth. I've eaten here many times since my last review, adding a star. For Victoria, this place is as good as asian food gets. Favorite dish is Shredded(actually slivered) pork with sliced baby bamboo shoots. It has barely any heat, and really nice flavor. Spicy chicken is good as well, bok choy, cabbage and bean sprouts. Varies from warm to really hot. Eggrolls are very good, a bit of 5 spice powder gives them a lot more flavor than your standard version. Slightly inconsistently sized because they are hand rolled, but the good ones are really good. read more

Love, Love, love the egg drop soup and curry rice!!! Delivery is typically fast and the drivers have been nice. Food is always hot and fresh. I've been in the restaurant once and thankfully it was after I knew the food was yummy because I might not have given them a chance. It was a little dirty, small (maybe 10 tables) dining room and that night the hostess or cashier not sure which exactly was not very professional in her actions. We all have bad nights and I'm going to chock it up to that. We still love them and will order again and again. Maybe one day we will eat in store. :) read more

Just ordered something today from this establishment for the first time ever using their online system. The online system was user friendly provided you with pictures each entrée or food item and worked flawlessly, no errors, time outs etc. Food arrived faster than I expected and was still hot, at this point I am pleased I chose this restaurant. The deliver handed me my food and than began explaining my drivers license was needed and asked if I would write it on the receipt. Puzzled by this of course I asked why. He then explained there had been some fraud etc. and this was now a requirement. Being uncomfortable about simply writing this information on the receipt but understood if the company had experienced fraud they might be trying to gather more information now therefore I informed the driver I was not going to write my information down but handed him my business card to give the owners/manager to call if they had problems, and signed the receipt. Less than 2 minutes my phone rings and on the other end is someone who starts off saying, ummmmm we need/we have to have your drivers license....." So at this point I'm thinking I was expecting someone more professional but very quickly realized I was dealing with someone with no business sense. Therefore I abruptly interrupted and stated that most times when someone is asking for personal information especially over the phone they introduce themselves etc. This individual responds by saying, "I don't have to tell you who I am.." Then proceeds to say, "you work at a bank/don't you work at a bank..." Then she goes on to say, "if you don't provide it you won't be able to order from us again." I said ok and hung up. Completely ignorant and unprofessional!!! Obviously she does not understand fraud privacy or protection of information etc... because that is not information that should be just written down casually than transported. The delivery driver after hearing the exchange apologized immediately and was confused because he didn't whether I was keeping the food or sending it back. I assured him it was paid for but I was not going to write my drivers license on the receipt. I would encourage the owners/manager(s) of Sichuan Garden to re-train or remove that individual from dealing with customers directly. Victoria is a small city and food establishments are closing and several have closed already. This type of employee with her lack of tact experience and definite ignorance will clearly run off your customers. Also, I know I'm not the only customer who has questioned this practice if indeed it is one and/or been uncomfortable with it. I would suggest that if this information is going to be needed to deter fraud find a way to include it in your online ordering system so employees are not having to ask for it unless the customer(s) are actually at your place of business. I ordered the Mongolian style beef. It was a flavorless plate of onions. The beef tasted like boiled beef. After 2 bites I was over it. The waitress asked how our meals were. I explained how tasteless my food was. When she brought our check she had not taken that item off. Upon checkout I brought it to the cashiers attention. She offered no apology for the bad experience with the dish. And did not offer to take that item that was not eaten off of the check. Horrible food and customer service.
