My wife and I really wanted Chinese food, so we gave Grand Buffet another chance since China B is temporarily closed. It's been a few years since we ate here and hoped the food had improved. It hasn't. Their buffet is half the size of their competitors. Is the food bad? No. It's not bad, it's just so bland. It's like the cook forgot that there were spices other than salt to cook with. Nothing jumped out to where either one of us said "Wow! That's good". Chinese food out of the frozen food section of HEB would have been a better choice. So disappointed. read more

Been here numerous times in the past, always pretty good. Today, however, was totally different... if you think you are having a lunch buffet please, please check your bill before you just pay. I was hankering for some sweet & sour shrimp and hot & sour soup. This place is a 2 minute walk from me. The two items cost me $15.05. I got home and went right at the soup. It was good. No pork though, which is usually in the traditional recipe. Then the shrimp, which smelled fishy. They put the sauce separate which was a good idea actually. I dipped and took a bite and immediately saw a big black vein of shrimp crap along the back. I figured they missed one. The second shrimp had the same deal. I started breaking through the batter on all the others and EVERY SINGLE SHRIMP had a thick black line of shrimp crap running the entire length of the back. THEY HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED! This Chinese and Mongolian restaurant has lost steps. Used to be that both China B and Grand Buffet were equivalent with Mongolian being the clear difference. Although, there are slight differences like Grand buffet still serves salmon while it's been removed by China B. China B has crab cakes that Grannd buffet does not. At present both are curiously more expensive with grand buffet being about 10% higher in price, especially for seniors. Both China B and Grand Buffet have both lost there choices. For instance both used to have soft serve ice cream, now neither does. Servers for Grand Buffet had a clear attitude and required being called over to get drink service, while China B has rarely, if ever, had this condition. At present, We prefer to go to China B although we still go to Grand Buffet on occasion for comparison and Mongolian. read more

Not clean! I pointed out that the plates were not properly washed. After confirming the plates were dirty instead of rewashing the plates for all the customers they handed me paper plates. I told them if they think it is ok that customers eat out of dirty plates I don't want to eat there. I then promptly left! read more

I am not the biggest fan of buffet's due to the temperature variances of food. Hot is cold, cold is sometimes warm, not my thing. One thing that did stand out at this place was the extreme abundance of variety. If you don't like Asian food, don't fret, they have you covered with the normal kids staples like chicken strips and pizza but also things like enchiladas. Supposedly if you want a steak of some sort you can tell them and they will make one for you to your liking, but there was plenty of food to try that did not require that effort. The hot and sour soup is pretty decent, it is the one thing I went back for seconds on. The rest of the food had decent flavors but was never the right temperature due to the nature of a buffet. One additional thing, you don't ever have to stand around and wait for the food because they never let the trays go empty. By the time it is getting low they are already bringing out another batch to replace it. Much better than some buffet's I've been to. All in all, if you're a buffet person I would definitely recommend coming here. If you are not a buffet person then this place will not make you one but it a bit better than most. read more

This is the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The best part of the meal was the fortune cookie because it helped mask the terrible taste of the meal in my mouth. Although the ambiance was very serene and peaceful the buffet's food was as cold as can be! You could tell it had been sitting there for a long while from how cold and soggy it was. However, the crawfish was very fresh and had a nice spicy kick to it. Hopefully next time I go the food will be fresher. read more

I don't know where to begin, aside from I had delivery. I ordered the almond chicken no vegetables with a side of fried rice. They were very kind to call and make sure I meant no vegetables on anything which was great. However.... the almond chicken was.. I don't even know how to explain it, burnt flavor with coagulated gravy? The fried rice tasted old and the bit of egg I took a bite of tasted spoiled. They were both however good portion sizes for the price just the flavor was off putting to say the least. I may have eaten half of the chicken and one bite of the rice. This is a buffet with sushi and a mongolian grill. Love their sesame chicken, their pot stickers/ pan dumplings, and their crab puffs. And their sweet tea! Everything else (except the desserts) is pretty standard. I don't care for their selection of sauces available for the mongolian grill, and the desserts are just...terrible. Unidentifiable, even. I have no idea what all those trays of smooshy squares are, but I don't think I should be eating foods that come in neon colors. My family pretty much runs the fan club, though, so we end up coming here pretty constantly. And I don't mind. ;) read more

This restaurant allows pets in to sit on the customers lap while eating. It was not a service dog. Woman did her best to conseal the dog . But it was easy to see. She was with a older man possibly her husband. I mentioned the dog to the server and he didn't do anything . read more

We could not remember which of the two Chinese Buffet's on N. Navarro we liked, so we stopped at the first one we came to, the Grand Buffet. It was about 8:30 this last Friday night when they are open to 10pm. The host was very nice and friendly and seated us where we wanted to sit. There were not that many people in attendance. We got our drinks rather quickly. The offerings on the buffet were ok, but not as plentiful as we remembered the other place having. The pans were not full, but most seemed to have some food in them. My wife got the Grill and that was well stocked, prepared fresh, hot and to her liking. However, on my second trip to the buffet, after having gotten some boiled shrimp and salad, the selection was beginning to wane. We were there for about an hour and did not see them replenish the food once. Each time you went to the buffet there was less and less food. In addition, people continued to come in the whole time. They were not busy, with lots of empty tables, but we were not the only patrons. My wife ran out of her drink and we had to call a waitress over to get her a refill. They did not ask or offer to refill mine. The plates on our table stacked up and they finally came and took them and finally asked me if i wanted a refill. The waitress was not attentive. While we were still eating they started to vacuum the tables around us. It seemed they were more intent on closing up and getting out of their than they were with customer service. The selection was so-so, the food was warm, the food was not replenished and the service was sub par. And to top it off the price for two was close to $35.00 including a meager tip. If you are daring, go for it, but we have decided the Grand Palace now holds the spot on the bottom of our list, previously held by Montana Mikes. read more

First time visitor, will NOT be going back. Place was clean, quiet, and had a good environment, even on an early Friday night. However, the food was bland and cold. I tried several different things, all hoping for something I liked, and never found it. The rice was hard and tasted like it had been out all day. Lo mein noodles were soggy. Chicken nuggets and pizza slices were so hard I had trouble biting into it. Beef and broccoli had no taste and was so cold. The only thing even remotely ok was the soft serve ice cream and the egg rolls were decent. Don't waste your time here, mostly to save yourself the $12.50 price tag. I go here for to go boxes they have a really good deal. $3.99 a lb for lunch as much as you can stuff in the box and cup. $4.99 a lb for dinner. Always clean, great friendly staff. Food is fresh and always full. Can easily ask for something and they will bring it out right away. read more

I am always a sucker for great chinese food. At Grand buffet they had a few home runs and some strikes. The restaurant itself actually has a very nice set up lot of great designs and art work to keep your eyes busy. And when first approaching the selection of food it does have many different items to choose from which is always a plus. The food I would say is descent it is not the great Chinese food I have tasted but it is also not the worst. Some of the food I was eating felt a little over cooked and some undercooked. The sushi selection is poor and barley has a taste. The meats are ok most done really good but then lacked the sauce to give it that great chinese flavor. I will be back cause like I said they did have much to choose from, but I won't be rushing back to complete my experience. read more

I ae here last week and ended up in the hospital with food poisoning. It was my first and last time eating at the grand buffet. Beware!

The place is visually nice and appealing. When we got there the place was preparing for the Sunday lunch rush. It's a buffet, so expect some hits and misses. Most of the food was hot and fresh, meaning it was fairly good too. Anything that had sat a while, wasn't so good. It had crab leg, oysters and peel-n-eat shrimp. I am careful not to eat certain things at a buffet and crab and oysters are on that list. Husband ate the peel-n- eat shrimp and said it was " the highlight of his meal". I love the little corn fritter things, but the fried fish and sushi were just awful. The fish had sat a while and was tough. Rice wasn't cooked all the way and was hard. Not a fan of the fried camroones either. Loved the shrimp in the garlic veggies. No desserts, save the little raspberry mousse cup, were worth eating. The hot and sour soup was okay. I did like the kick it had. Oh, and don't order a water!!!! Just don't. They don't filter it and it tastes muddy/dirty. Very gross. Overall, if you are picky about what you choose and eat. the fresh stuff is good, unfortunately you just don't know HOW FRESH it is. Choose wisely, my friends! read more

Best Chinese food ever!!!! The food is always fresh. And the waiters are so friendly!! Love this place.
