Rich, creamy, and full of flavor, it set the tone for what would be a standout meal. I ordered two ceviche tostadas: one with a beautiful purple octopus ceviche and the other with a mixto of shrimp, fish, and octopus. Both were excellent. The octopus was tender and flavorful, with a clean, fresh taste and just the right amount of acidity. The mixto ceviche was equally impressive--bright, well-balanced, and loaded with fresh seafood. Every bite reflected quality and care. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and despite it being their very first day, the staff was friendly and attentive. It's rare to see a restaurant come out of the gate this strong. Campomar brings something truly special to Victoria--authentic Mexican seafood, beautifully prepared, in a welcoming space. Though simply cooked in butter and spices, they tasted fresh, on par with large scallops I had bought at Whole Foods in the past and cooked at home, perhaps even better. But it struck me when I looked at the menu, seeing a Vietnamese section, that the owners aren't your typical Texan cooks. They're eclectic. When when I see originality, I have to try it. The green beans were also fresh, simple but well put together, without bacon, the way they should be, because that's how my grandma used to cook them (grandma is always right, sorry not sorry.) That's right, eating at Nemo's reminded be of home cooking at its best, made with heart and care. The oysters were hardy and good in size, made me feel like maybe they were from a jar or can. Stuff crab was meh. Shrimp didn't have seasoning, cocktail sauce was vinegar based? There was just a strong vinegar presence. The fish was by far the all star but even it tasted a little slimy when you took off the breading. Zero seasoning on the breading. The fried oysters were delicious, and I loved the fried mushrooms. Hush puppies are from a freezer bag. My daughter loved her fried chicken tenders. At $170 for three appetizers and three meals with one Dr Pepper, I felt like someone just kicked my dog. We didn't buy any, but the Snow crab was MP at $54 a pound? That's 100-150% markup from the wholesale. HEB sells it for $22 a lb at retail which is at least a 40% markup from wholesale. If your prices are going to be that high, your food should meet the expectation. It felt more like a person, opening a seafood restaurant in a fishing community, that buys everything from a frozen vendor, cooks it like a fast food restaurant, and sells it at a farm to table price.
