Duck Fried Rice

I am always amazed at how consistent this restaurant has been for me over the last 5 years. The food is always good and the service is always spectacular. This is my favorite thai restaurant in all of San Diego. Always good energy and a good vibe.

Chef Special, Grilled Salmon with Mango Salad, excellent!
Linda H.

I stopped by for Tom Kha Tofu soup, which is not listed on the menu, but they will make it if you prefer over chicken or shrimp. The soup was outstanding! You know that feeling, when you take one bite and stop in your tracks because it's so darn good! For my main course, I ordered grilled salmon with mango salad under the chef specials. It was very good! Bright flavors and tender juicy salmon. The only negative was that the mango was underripe and crunchy, but it was augmented with ripe strawberries and still delicious. It would have been outstanding with a ripe mango. I might also suggest something to soak up the tasty Juices on the plate, like a small scoop of rice. There was no way to consume it, as none of the items were absorbent. Service was just right, checking periodically, but not too often. The restaurant itself is welcoming with beautifully painted walls. Located just a block and a half from the beach, it's in a sweet spot.

Truly the Very Best Thai restaurant anywhere!!!! Quality of food incomparable to any Thai restaurant we ever tried all over the world! The chef is World Class. Every dish cooked with Love and attention to detail. Excellent service! Very nice intimate atmosphere with peaceful relaxing music playing in the background. Highly recommend to true connoisseurs of Thai food.

Drunken Noodles

I am ashamed that I have not been here before today. Many of my friends and co-workers have mentioned this restaurant for years and that I should try it. It was extremely easy to order for pick up online. I chose the Drunken Noodles with beef, Asparagus and Avocado Salad. Tom Kha, and Yellow Curry with chicken. Pick up time was visible and trackable on the ordering website. It was ready for me 3 minutes earlier than expected. There is no private parking lot, only street parking, but i found a spot right away. I entered the restaurant and everyone was so friendly and welcoming right away. The place had just opened 30 minutes prior, and had one table occupied, with 2 pick up orders ready. I took my meal home and my goodness, everything was delicious! Spice levels just right, cilantro notes and aromatic lemongrass, coconut all dancing on my tongue. Thanks to fellow yelpers for the Asparagus and Avocado Salad recommendation! I loved the sweet savory, tangy, char grilled combination of it all. My only disappointment was that I hadn't come here sooner.

Spicy Fried Noodle

The food was amazing! We got chicken fried rice, drunken noodles, and a kids meal. They had the cutest kid plates. We finished off with mango sticky rice. We will definitely be back!! I didn't get pictures of everything but will add what I had.

Food is great. Some of my favorite from the menu are Pineapple Fried Rice and the Panang Curry.

Larb Gal Salad & Spicy Fried Noodle Lunch

This has been my husband and I's 2nd time coming here and it definitely will not be the last. The food is absolutely delicious. We tried out the larb for the first time here and it was so yummy. We got the spice level at 7. The spicy pan fried noodle with shrimp is really good as well. I love how the noodles weren't sticking together compared to other Thai restaurants I've been to. The noodles were that good that I even ate the vegetables. We also got the Thai tea boba and it was really amazing. I love how the boba was made just right that they were soft and weren't sticking together. The people at this place are super nice and welcoming. They greeted us right away and were seated immediately too. It helped that we got there when it wasn't busy. I want to thank the waitress for giving us the larb recommendation and to order sticky rice with it because it was absolutely the best comb. I never knew how to properly eat larb and I'm so grateful that she took time to educate us on it. They played music that didn't make the ambiance noisy whatsoever. I was able to make conversation with my husband without us screaming at each other which was great! Cannot wait to come back again and try out something new on the menu! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

Pad Woon Sen

Fantastic spot for a quick lunch while in the Imperial Beach area. This was today's pick of choice for me to meet up with a long time colleague. The service is excellent and the food very flavorful. Today's order included Chicken Satay and the pictured Pad Woon Sen with shrimp and chicken. Wonderfully done!

It's our go-to once a month Thai meal. Can't really fully enjoy Thai food at other restaurants any longer after dining at Siam Imperial.

I got the appetizer sampler. It was normal American-Asian fried junk, but I kinda liked it. Well,…read morethe egg rolls were just okay. The texture was good, but they kinda taste like nothing. The cheese wonton things had a nice texture too. The shrimp were probably the best as I feel like they're usually less consistent, but these had a great crisp to it. The sauce was like a normal-ish sweet and sour in taste. However, I was not a huge fan of the spicy basil I ordered. I did not find this to be "aromatic." Rather, instead of spicy basil, it seems that I accidentally ordered the spicy onion, as every bite is meat and onion. I can hardly taste the tiny amount of basil. Their spice level goes from 1 to 10. I asked if the 10 would be an American 10 or Thai 10. He said it's "not 'that' spicy," so I went with 10. This turned out to be about right for what I wanted. On a 1 to 10 of Thai spicy, I would put this at about a.......4-5, so it is actually spicy. The flavor was still kinda lacking though. This dish is proof that just because something spicy, doesn't mean it has a lot of umami. Also, I don't like the rice here. I think it's not jasmine or short grain? It's long grain, right? Is it good quality Thai long grain or some cheap thing? I want to say I prefer it to be more absorbent enough for spicy food, but that's definitely not the main issue here. Or they don't use a rice cooker, but I'm not sure. What kind of brand is this? It sucks.

Not sure exactly how long they have been at this location but I seem to remember a not as appealing restaurant being there before. You walk in and there is enough room for about twenty or so people to dine inside. Always a plus. Staff was super friendly. I'm used to having to pay before served, as that seems to be the norm these days in many placed, not Mae's I was told pay when I leave. That helps to cement in the true restaurant feel. Generous portions and you get a glass of water without even being asked. I did ask and was provided with nice bamboo disposable chop sticks to eat with. I had the Drunken Noodles with Pork. Hot scale 5, and yes it did bring a tear to my eye. Other restaurants can not bring on the heat and flavor. Mae's Thai Kitchen brought on the heat and flavor. I was a bit surprised that there was no hot sauce or soy at the table. Did not ask for any sauce either as was not needed. The noodles and pork were done to perfection. The mark of a good chef is no sauce extra or flavor needed. What came to my table was Perfect. Reasonably priced and could actually feed two people if you wanted. Look at my plate there was a generous supply of pork provided. Yes I'd recommend to friends and family. Hot scale runs from 1 to 5 (I said 100) Food was great!!!

The Tom Kah soup was perfectly sweet/sour - one of the best Tom soups I've ever had! The Cashew Nut tofu was savory and delicious. The veggies were cooked beautifully (not overdone) and the tofu was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. Add water chestnuts and it would be perfect. Sabrosito! My husband had the Fried Chicken Wings. They looked like Grandma's fried chicken (no one did fried chicken better) and remained crispy and juicy throughout the whole meal. Sauce was served on the side, which helped with the crispness factor. He was very happy with his meal. The hostess/server/cook (she does it all!) was attentive and helpful. And boy, can she cook! Yum! We will definitely be back!
