She is a terrible doctor and her office staff is not any better. My daughter has been sick for over 2 weeks now. She went back today and was going to send over meds. Never did and now my daughter cannot get ahold of anyone at her office. She even went by and door is locked. No one is answering a knock at the door or their phone. She should not be allowed to practice medicine. Going now to the State Board. read more

So here's my update. I'm now seeing a family physician in Round Rock and have left Dr. Shung. In between, I had some labs done during the transition and I got a call from Lisa, her super dry receptionist. *ring ring* "Hello?" "Hi Amina, Dr Shung wanted you to come in because your thyroid levels are high." Talk about deer in the headlights. Obviously this incited a bit of panic. I hate Lisa's abrupt and unempathetic nature. Some patients have some sensitivity towards these things and it would be nice to have a little bit of a heads up before moving right into the fact your labs came back abnormal. That's never fun. Especially around 2 PM during work hours. Dr. Shung's choice in this receptionist is terrible. read more

I made this appointment upon the recommendation of my partner who has been treated by Dr. Shung for many years and absolutely loves her. I was disappointed to leave with a very different opinion. Dr. Shung's nurse/assistant should choose a different line of work. She has the personality of a box of hair and she made me feel that she was put out by my presence. I like to give as much information as I can to any physician I see because I feel that it helps them to do their job; Lisa seemed annoyed at having to take it down. I made the appointment due to shoulder and neck trouble I was having, and numbness in my arm and fingers. Dr. Shung did a thorough exam, ordered some x-rays and bloodwork (bloodwork?) and told me that I needed some PT. At no time did she ever give me a list of recommended physical therapists and when the results of my x-rays came in, they never contacted me for a follow-up! My results were mailed to me and when I called back for an explanation of the findings, Lisa, in her best bedside manner, very rudely and condescendingly told me that the degenerative disc disease I was reading about in my test results was "just arthritis" and that if I wanted to talk to the doctor about it I would have to make another appointment because she didn't discuss medical information over the phone. Well, needless to say, I was very upset and there was no way in hell I was going to make another appointment at that office. Overall, I liked Dr. Shung, but felt she could have offered more guidance. Dr Shung has been my doctor since 2006. I love her she is smart and can pin point any health problem you may have quickly. I would recomend her to any one. Like anything else in this world things can slip through the cracks but I have never personally experienced any problems with her or her staff. I always recieve any answer to any questions that day or with in 24 hours. If I could I would rate her with a million stars. read more

I just had my first appointment, an annual physical, and I had a similar experience to another yelper. Although I got to the office early, I wasn't seen until an hour later. I spoke to the receptionist and she said it was not uncommon at all. I was stuck waiting in a room with like 50 bobble heads, all making a super annoying ticking sound for an hour. I finally met the doctor, I explain how I am a new Dad, and then she asks me to get a flu shot. I decline and she proceeded to tell me that it is not about me anymore and that my pediatrician is going to be upset with me (our pediatrician is well aware of our view of the flu shot and advised that it isn't even very effective this year). That was about it for me. Also, she had a sign that said not to discuss medical issues with her during your physical because there will be an extra charge. I will not be seeing Sheila Shung again. read more

Update: I think Sheila cares. However, her approach to addressing my ever-changing strange symptoms was to send me to specialist after specialist who, one after one, told me nothing was wrong. She shunted me off to many specialists, but never the one I needed. It was a chiropractor -- a chiropractor-- who finally sent me to the right specialist who diagnosed me with a life-long condition. A chiropractor did what she and another doctor I saw couldn't. And I'm 2 years delayed in getting treatment. Oh well. She did her best, i suppose. Original review. I saw Dr Shung for several years before switching to a more convenient doctor. To address complaints in other yelp reviews: she runs her office lean. It is her and her nurse. Her nurse does double (maybe triple) duty as nurse and reception. Other doctor offices run with 3-4 people. I don't fault Dr. Shung for running lean. Making money as a primary care physician is hard with our managed care setup in this country. She also doesn't always stay on schedule, but her patients ALWAYS get the time they need. Always. She listens. She obviously cares, but it is undoubtedly true that the way she does business creates inconvenience for her patients. If you are aware of this and patient enough, she's a good primary care physician. I personally wish she would make changes to address the delays, but I can't fault her for trying to both focus on patient care and make a decent living. She's a good doctor, and that counts for a lot. I've seen several and fired most of them for being perfunctory and not listening well. These doctors have different priorities. I like dr. Shung's priorities better. I didn't fire her. I just switched for convenience and now I'm with a doctor who draws a salary from a clinic that allots 30 minutes per patient. He can do this because he's semi-retired after a long career working in hospitals as a specialist. The clinic can do it because they are a large operation and make their profit through other services. But I do not expect an independent business owner doctor to be able to do the same and keep her practice open. So know this going in and enjoy a quality experience in the exam room read more

I went there (she WAS my primary care dr); I knew what was wrong with me but required me to come in to get the RX (other dr's have known the immediate need and the benign nature of the medication so they were able to prescribe it over the phone), but nope, I had to go there and she told me I didn't have the thing I DID have. So no meds were prescribed. Then I got it in earnest a few days later, of course. A specialist doctor I have, prescribed it to me over the phone (WHEN I CALLED FOR FIVE HOURS AND NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM AS I WAS TRYING TO GET MY TEST RESULTS SO I COULD GET AN RX) like I said. I was finally called back about 8 hrs later (and this is a very small office with only one Dr) after I had gotten the rx AND WORKED TO TRACK DOWN THE TEST RESULTS THRU NOT ONLY MY SPECIALIST BUT ALSO AN INSURANCE CO. This was an hour call. I HAD to get the meds bc of some plans I had that night, which I was hosting (and had to end up canceling) bc I couldn't risk being too ill during hosting. They then argued with me once they finally Called me back too late, and then my specialist actually called me back with the test results a few days later, which it isn't even their job to do but they just actually care about their patients, then doctor Shung has never EVER called me back with those results. They may have never called me because I ended up being right all along. Not only all this, but now I am still getting balance- dues from them! I would think that if they didn't even finish the service, how dare they keep charging me extra. It's all pretty unbelievable. This is not the first offense. They also tell you things like "just stop itching it." And then after I went to 3 specialists on that particular issue, it was in the end a very Diagnosable problem!! read more

I was unsatisfied, if I could give no stars I would. The customer service was bad and unprofessional. After I spent long time filling out the information and health history, the nurse took us into the room, she asked me the same question, which was fine, but I mentioned that I had written on the paper, then she said she did read that yet.... what`s the point of filling that form out anyway? Unprofessional! They did`t even know which referrals are in-network or not. I had to check and find that out myself which was wasting my time calling around and being told that the place Dr Shung referred was not covered by my insurance. Overall, the experience was not pleasant and the waiting was 45+min even though there was only one patient before us. I will not go back again. Definitely don`t recommend this place. The nurse was cold, no smile on face. Need to mention, few weeks later when checked my insurance, I found out they had billed me twice for that one visit; it was the annual health check up, but they billed a "sick" visit on top of that. When I called of course no one answer, and we also received a patient- physician relationship termination letter from them. Do me that favor, I would go back anyway! I've been going to see Dr. Shung for a year now and I can't say enough about her. She takes the time to listen to patients and is able to connect the dots between seemingly unrelated issues. It has helped me make progress in years long anxiety and rage issues, linking them to a possible thyroid issue (tests are pending, so well know more after). I don't mind that I can sometimes wait a while to see her. because I know when I see her she's going to sit down and listen to me, help me feel valid in my complaints. If I ever move away from Austin I will gladly drive across state to see her. :) read more

Dr. Shung herself was nice and seemed to know what she was talking about. However, the way her office is run is absolutely horrific. Before my appointment, I called a few times to ask questions about paperwork, labs etc. and I no one EVER answered the phone. I have literally never called Dr. Shung's office and someone actually answers. I always had to leave voicemails and get called back (even though sometimes that doesn't even happen). I arrived at my appointment 15 minutes early and waited in the waiting room another hour before I was seen. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the room I was in had all these weird toy bobble heads that made this annoying sound as they bobbled. Maybe it is just me but when I am talking to someone about a serious medical condition, I would prefer these weird noise making toys not be present. At the end I asked the receptionist if this experience/wait time was normal and she said it wasn't uncommon. After my appointment, I had questions about medications/side effects and it has been like pulling teeth to get someone to call me back. I went to a new doctor in Austin today who was great. He answered all of my questions, wrote me a doctors note for work, and him and his staff were extremely professional. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Dr. Shung ever again. read more

I finally had to leave this office when I showed up to the blood lab and they had no lab order from Dr. Shung's office. This is the THIRD TIME I've had this experience with her office at different blood labs. Throughout my life I've had to go to different blood labs for different doctors and it has been no problem, but consistently it is a problem with Shung's office. Don't waste your time. read more

Dr Shung and Lisa are great!! Lisa always accomodates my schedule - which changes a lot because of my work. Dr. Shung knows that I tend to read high on my blood pressure after i've been driving. So many times she has helped me calm down and taken a second reading. She remembers me and my history and always keeps my prescription prices low with her careful selections. Very happy. read more

I first met Dr Shung when her staff was giving allergy shots at the state office where I work. She gave me her card and have been to see her several times as my Primary Care Physician under Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. She is very professional and has always taken her time with me to explain everything. I was also impressed that she has a computer in each room and all notes are made on the computer and she can look up drugs and what your insurance covers instantly. read more

I absolutely love her. My mother in law got recommendation to go see her from one of her specialists since we were not happy with her primary physician. I could not believe that she actually touched her, listened to her and draw boundaries with her. I was blown away. I signed up with her right away. I didn't think I need doctor at all. I just run to ARC if something goes wrong. I feel taken care of by Dr. Shung. She actually helps you without just throwing meds at you. I could go on and on but you get the picture. What can I say except Dr. Shung is THE BEST!! I've been to lots of doctors in my 57 years and Dr. Shung is exceptional!!! I am truly blessed to have found her about eight years ago this month. I had to go to the ER for a corneal abrasion once and when they found out she was my doctor, the nurse said, "Oh, she's a really good doctor, you are lucky to have her." My response was, "I know!!" The Dr. doesn't care about patient. Even for things as important as followup biopsy needed after sonogram, she doesn't bother to return a call after several calls requesting adavice. Too bad I am in the mid of the mess. Will switch at first chance. read more

This is an Internal Medicine Dr. I went at the recommendation of a couple of co workers (one seems hopped up and anxious all the time; the other seems like she's on downers...real draggy) Her nurse - SLASH-secretary is her gatekeeper or something...every time I called; (she must have caller ID) she would not return (except when I first became a patient) I would call from my work number (which is blocked) and imagine that!!! she picked up the phone. I, too, love Dr. Shung. Yes, she runs behind but it's because she gives each patient the time and attention that they need. She does keep me calm. I see that most of her 5 stars come from the time when she had another PA. Her receptionist/nurse is the reason I am looking for a new primary care physician. These two must work as a team and when one doesn't work, it's bad for the other no matter how good they are. I am so disappointed. I knew the first time I met Lisa that it was not right. I tried to give it some time. She will do nothing to help you. These other reviews that speak of her are right on. No need to spend my time beating a dead horse. There are too many great doctors in town. I have also noticed that since she started with the weight lose product, it's changed. I'm sorry Dr. Shung but you should read your reviews. This was my first and last time going to Dr. Shelia Shung. I have to say she was very nice and pleasant and I'll give that 2 stars but...... First off, let me say I've been in healthcare for years now this visit was ridiculous. The receptionist was sour-faced the whole visit; I'm not sure who pissed in her cheerios. Any who, I waited over 1.5 hours to be seen and my visit with her was roughly 15-20 mins. Reason for visit: Dizzy spell and low blood pressure Her advice: Stop drinking so much water, drink some G2 (Gatorade), and she stated my blood pressure was fine when she checked it. When Lisa check my blood pressure it was significantly lower than when Dr. Shung checked it. Duhhhhhh, my blood pressure increased because I was sitting in the exam room for over an hour listening to her little trinkets/bobble heads tic-tock and I started to really get upset because I was waiting forever and a day. I have requested a summary of my visit and my blood-work results sent in the mail. I'm interested to see what my insurance was billed. read more

I really, really hate going to the doctor. I went to her at the recommendation of my boyfriend, and I'm glad I did. I'm new to Texas, and Cedar fever got the best of me for nearly two weeks. I felt better in just a few days after seeing her. She was VERY nice and accommodating. She explained everything to me in detail and made sure all my questions were answered. The only downfall is I did have to wait for nearly an hour. But it was worth it to feel better! read more

I don't have much to add. She moved a 1/2 mile north in 2012, The waiting room is a bit small but the patient rooms are nice. The staff over the years has generally been very customer focused. Dr. Shung is as fantastic doctor and runs a solid practice, something most Dr's offices need to figure out. read more
