I have been a patient at Austin Primary Care Physicians for over 8 years. If you value your time and money, don't go here. I usually avoid this office but have yet to find a new one. It was finally the last straw for me. The wait time to see a doctor is usually pretty lengthy, if you want to see one of the MDs. But what really disappoints me is how poorly managed the office staff are. They are unfriendly, rude, unorganized, and completely uneducated about the field they are working in. Getting a referral is like pulling teeth, it takes forever and no one calls back. I ran into this problem 4 years ago, and here I am again in a similar situation. It is extremely disappointing they don't get referrals in, in a timely manner. I came to see one of their new NPs. or PAs. I came in on August 3rd for a referral. I was assured the referral would take a couple days but that it would be fine if I made my specialist appointment a week after coming in for the referral. Well, a month later I get a pretty high bill from the specialist office because my referral wasn't sent in until 20-25 days after my initial visit to this office. I am now being billed hundreds of dollars for both visits because I went twice without a referral, which was then billed as out of network. I am now tasked with appealing to my insurance due to this PCP office's inadequacy at running their office. read more

NEW PATIENTS BEWARE!!!! I called trying to schedule an appt as a new patient. I called the 1st time, the lady asked for my DOB, first and last name then put me on hold. 5 Mins later still nothing so I was sent to VM. I called back and got the VM again. I waited 2 mins and called back got a different lady, I asked to sched. an appt as a new patient. She asked me for my DOB, first and last name and my insurance (I have ANTHEM) she said " I don't think we take that insurance, sorry" I just said "thank you?..." and the lady said "uhm, have a nice day" HORRIBLE SERVICE. I have NEVER encounter such horrible service. I seriously don't even know what to think... The thing is that she said she "thinks" they don't take the insurance, ZERO accountability. read more

THE STAFF: They are not diligent, they do not empathizes, they are NOT DEPENDABLE. You have been warned. Just save yourselves the headache, please. I wish I would have known this before. The staff is here is terrible! And Is going to ruin the business of the actual doctors. What good is a doctor you can't get a hold of, or even their assistant, or even a human being. I cant count the amount of times on TWO hands I needed to speak to someone about my prescription being sent to the pharmacy so I can pick it up because someone didn't send it out or test results in a swap of my on my inflammed tonsils. Didn't even get the prescription by the way. They closed up for the weekend when I needed my prescription to be sent on a Friday because they never sent it weeks before when they were supposed to. I was stuck with no birth control. All because no one knows how to return calls even though they say they will 24-48 hours. I was told I would be called about my test results when they came in. That it would only take a couple days. It took nearly two weeks before I had to call them. I was on hold and hung up on twice, because once you hold for a period of time you get transferred somewhere and then disconnected. I called back a third time to find out they had the results the whole time and never called me. The woman didn't even act like she cared about my complaint of not being notified and she responded with 'you want to talk to the manager?' Just pawned me off. Be aware if you go here, and you ever need to contact them for ANYTHING AT ALL; need results on something, paperwork sent to your insurance company, or even a concern, you will be put on hold, you will always have to leave a voicemail and it gets frustrating! Not being able to talk to a doctor or a docs assistant. You can't depend on this staff to do what they say they are going to do. And you and I derseve a doctors office that (pardon my language) gives a damn about their patients and their concerns. read more

Dr.kohli is a very rude bitch as is her pa Brenda. Without going into too much detail she cold turkeyed me off of xanax after 50 years after she told me she would never do that to me. But she did and in turn caused me to have two seizures. There had been 1 occasion where i had taken one in the morning and had a glass of wine in the evening so when she ua'd me she basically threw a fit and now wants personal records from my psychiatrist. Very bad experience; won't return. read more

Dr. Aguirre and her medical assistant Angel are absolutely fantastic. I have been looking for a long time for a primary care physician that I felt comfortable with and who I felt like actually cared about my well-being. Now I have found that. Dr. Aguirre is very responsive to my questions and concerns and takes the time to explain everything fully. She also considers my input so that we made decisions about my medical together. I never feel rushed with her. Her and her assistant are very thorough. I never have a problem with being able to communicate with her assistant via phone and messages, unlike many of the other doctors I see and have seen in the past. Now I do need to say that I did see a few doctors at APC over the span of a couple years before I saw Dr. Aguirre and I did not feel like the treatment or service was the same at all. I was not happy with my experience. In fact, the visit when I met Dr. Aguirre was the last chance I was giving the place, but apparently there have been many changes made to their practices and policies and ultimately to the way patients are treated. My initial visits are why I can only give the place 4 stars and not a full 5, but my recent visits over the last 6 months would be a 5 star review. read more

I have peripheral neuropathy and referred to Dr. Babak Kavian for treatment. He could not promise healing but recommended a trial. After one treatment to both feet, I noted much better balance. After four weeks of treatment my gait is much better, the "strange feelings" in my thighs, calves and feet are much better, since I don't remember normal I feel as if I am near to being normal again, though. I am able to step up a curb which I have not been able to do that in a number of years. I am so much better and recommend anyone to do a trial and hopefully help is available and everyone will have as good or better result. read more

Dr Aguirre was assigned to be my PCP by Wellmed. I really wish I knew beforehand so I could research, and see Yelp reviews. Sadly, I must agree that the overall service at their North location is sub-par. While Dr Aguirre is very pleasant, I did not find her thorough or pro-active. The office and nursing staff are extremely underwhelming and unprofessional. Their online messaging portal, which they urge you to use, indicates it takes 3 business days to return messages, ridiculous. I asked for a physical therapy referral and it took a week, and only then did they tell me I did not need a referral in the first place. I feel like they are taking advantage of older, medicare patients, scamming the system for billing purposes. read more

Having relocated for a new job here in North Austin, I was able to locate a physician relatively quickly using ZocDoc, which I had never even heard of before this time, and was set-up for an appointment relatively easily through an online form. I work and live just a few blocks away from this office, so knew I could skip out without too much hassle and make an easy 2:00 pm appointment. What a joke. First, I left at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm appointment to arrive at a very, very large medical complex that consists of probably 20-30 different office buildings, each containing several different independently run doctor's offices. I got to my first at around 1:40, and was pointed around to different areas before finding out I wasn't even in the right building. Naturally, the parking areas were huge, so just getting to and from my car was a 5 minute walk, and no one building was reasonably close to walk to, having fences, major roads, etc separating each one. To make the travel story short, I finally got to the right place at around 2:10, and felt terrible enough for taking so long to apologize to the front desk woman. She thanked me for filling out all of my online information, and was actually quite nice, asked me to have a seat. After waiting 20 minutes, a nurse called me and explained to me that not-even-a-doctor-Koch, which I can only assume is pronounced with ending with a -k sound, was 'very particular about how late patients can be,' and that 'before sending me away, she would see if he would still see me'. 5 minutes later, she came back and explained that he was 'very busy, and it was too late for me to be seen by him because I was so late. With a look that made it apparent that she knew what my answer would be, she asked if I would like to be rescheduled. Fortunately for her, when demigods send out their minions to decree their decisions, I don't punish the messenger, politely said 'I don't think so,' and left. Seriously, you guys knew the situation, it's confusing, I was from out of town, and I apologized for the delay, but holy hell, be a little more respectful and understanding. Created a yelp account just to review how horrible my experience with this business has been. Dr. Babak Kaviani is a very aggressive podiatrist if you are looking for a more conservative approach he is not what you are looking for. Felt like I was being scammed from the moment I walked in immediately wanted to start an injection cycle of 8 treatments, and mentioned surgery afterwards if that doesnt work. Decided to go one more time to get custom orthotics but knew this wasnt the podiatrist i wanted. After getting orthotics which I was told my insurance would cover I got a bill for $960. I tried to get in touch with the manager which i told the receptionist the billing was a mistake. After calling 15+ times over the course of a week no exaggeration I was receiving messages on their patient portal from her. After a couple arguments back in forth through messages on their portal she said they "updated my balance to $460" with no explanation to why. I explained to her I need a call back it is extremely unprofessional to make that big of a mistake and then proceed not to call your customer and the billing isn't updated the price doesn't make sense. I never received a phone call and decided I would just take the hit without an explanation so I didn't waste any of my time. Please save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere read more

I specifically created my Yelp account just to write this review. I went in to see Dr. Shaw Rajal and my visit there couldnt of been more unpleasant. Im not the one to complain or cry over small things, but i feel like im justified in what im about to say. I wont make this long and get straight to the point. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but She was very rude and had a nasty attitude from the start. She made me feel like i was wasting her time and even raised her voice at me at one point to ask me if "I UNDERSTOOD WHAT SHE WAS SAYING!" I drove 30 minutes just so they could check my blood pressure and have Shaw talk down to me like i was a child. I left there feeling embarrased and even paid my co-pay for absolutely nothing. Side note- I went from a really good medical insurance to a cheap one bc i felt like i wouldn't really need it.Turns out i was wrong. And now i see why the insurance i have is only limited to clinics like the one Dr. Shaw works in. You get what you pay for. I will not make that mistake again. Very unprofessional & i would strongly advice to stay away from people like that. Speaks wonders about someones character when they belittle you the way she did. read more

I relocated to Austin 10 years ago and have not been able to find a primary doctor I feel comfortable with or doesn't rush me out the door. Dr Kumar at Austin Primary is super sweet and takes his time to listen. He is an older gentleman, he is old school, he reviews all the notes and questions his assistants before entered into my chart. He is soft spoken, gentle and just a nice guy. He spends about 30-45 mins with you going over your concerns if needed and never looks at his watch. He always refills my medications without giving me a hard time and is happy to change up my meds if things are not working or just call something in if Im coming down with something. His staff is always on point with getting my referrals sent out for my annoying HMO. His main assistant is also awesome. For some reason, I can't remember her name right now... The rest of the staff is always extremely friendly and organized. I have been visiting them for about a year and have not had a bad experience yet. I specifically made sure they were part of my network when I switched insurance providers this year. They also have a lab center in the same office for convenience. They are extremely flexible with scheduling. I honestly can;t think of what else you would want My partner has started seeing him as her PCP too. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kumar for three years. Let me say right off that this review is not about him. He is very kind and thorough. My complaint is about his scheduling staff. I was prescribed a medication by the doctor and they will not refill it until I come in for a visit. I am down to three pills and my blood pressure goes through the roof when I do not take it. So I take it faithfully every day. I called to schedule an appointment and the receptionist gave me a date this week that I cannot make due to jury duty. I asked for the next available time and she said it was in July. I said that would be fine but that I was out of the medication. I travel a lot for work, so trying to get medical appointments made is a real challenge. She was completely inflexible and we kept going back and forth about the fact that I needed to come in but they wont send in a refill. Any doctor's office that is that inflexible and refuses to even work with you is not worth your time. read more

Dr. Kohli is the most thoughtful and diligent primary care physician I have ever had. She can be late to appointments, but aside from that she's great. Upon my initial visit she reviewed all my old medical records, did a detailed walk through of issues and things I wanted to explore and figure out/had concerns about - and she was thoughtful on getting them all resolved and taken care. She's relatively "holistic" and avoids unnecessary treatments and she has always seemed humble and would recommend that I speak with a specialist at times for a secondary opinion. In my opinion, she's a great primary care doctor. read more

I have had private insurance for the last year, from a fairly small company, that is not accepted by a large number of doctors. I chose Austin Primary Care Physicians from the limited list because they looked like one of the best of the bunch. If they are indeed the best of the bunch, I feel bad for anyone going to any of the other doctors offices because Austin Primary Care Physicians has been awful. I was talking to a friend about this and she asked what is wrong with them. My response: what's not wrong?? I've had multiple terrible experiences with this group. And not a single good one. My first visit, just to establish a patient record, was near the end of the day. I waited forever in the waiting room til I got called back to the patient room. The nurse doing my intake spent most of the time complaining about the smell of the previous patient in that room. Horribly unprofessional, and his distraction then meant that my paperwork got misplaced. So I waited another long time for the doctor to see me. And then, one of the very first things she brought up with BMI, with barely a how-do-you-do. Which is not a good way to start a patient relationship. My second appointment a few months later, to get refills on meds, was in the middle of the day. The waiting room wait was not that long, but then the doctor started seeing patients out of order. I waited in the patient room long enough that I actually had to open the door and ask a nurse what was going on. When the doctor came in, there was little apology for the wait and she again started in pretty quickly on the BMI, mentioning that she could prescribe me something to help with weight loss, which sounds terribly fishy. I was kind of over the office at that point, but didn't want to deal with finding someone new when I pretty much just need daily meds that don't need a lot of oversight. My third appointment was scheduled for 8am in an attempt to avoid a long wait. A few days before the appointment I got a call from the office with a voicemail stating that I needed to call them in advance of my appointment later that week. I called back, stated that I was returning a call, and got transferred to a voicemail line where I left a message. I got a return call the next day with no message left. I figured that whatever the issue was, it didn't seem important. When I showed up for my appointment the receptionist told me that they had been desperately trying to reach me in the last few days because the NP I had an appointment with was no longer with the group. Whatever her notes said indicated that they had called and left numerous messages to cancel this appointment and reschedule. The receptionist argued with me when I described to her the message that I actually received. She then called another doctor who agreed to squeeze me in. Of course, he wasn't coming in until 9. I waited because I needed the meds refill, but they made it very clear that this was a huge favor on their part. Again, when I got to see the doctor, one of the first things he brought up was BMI. After going through all that rigmarole, I do not feel like discussing my BMI. I went ahead and rescheduled another follow-up, mostly just to have it on the books, while I fully intended to find a new office. As it happens, I now have a new job and will have better insurance and can go back to my trusty ARC. I did, however, get a call this week ahead of that other appointment that I hadn't yet canceled, to reschedule it because the doctor is out of town. Even after getting that call, I also still got a robo-call the next day reminding me of my appt this week. The robo system delivers a message and then gives you the offer of pressing 2 to speak to a real person. Lo and behold, pressing 2 did nothing but repeat the whole robo message. I called back just to ensure that the appointment had indeed been canceled and I got hung up on. To recap: literally EVERY interaction I had with Austin Primary Care Physicians was bad. I never once received any sincere acknowledgement that their office had screwed anything up. The customer service is abysmal and insulting. Mostly, I just got told that I am fat. read more

Dr. Aguirre is not worth a damn as a physician. I called needing a prescription for a condition and I was told she wanted to see me and they have no appointments for a month. Really needed to follow up following a hospital stay. They have no appointments for a month. What good is a doctor when they won't help you when you need it! Wish I could give a zero star. I started going here in dec 2016. The doctor I was placed with left. Thought that's fine and met another new person love her but can never get an appointment. The receptionist have horrible attitudes. When they couldn't get me in right away I went to urgent care because I was having trouble breathing. Then when I called to canceled they said they canceled it with an attitude. Then the next morning I got a reminder text that I still had my appointment. When I called to confirm they said it was still there and that I didn't call to cancel. On top of that they are going to try to give me a no cancellation fee to pay. I will NEVER go back! read more

I am very disappointed in the office staff at Austin Primary Care Physicians. They are rude and obnoxious, never willing to help. I needed help with a receipt for a payment I made to them and was told to go to my insurance. When I asked how that could be since they were the ones that received the payment I was spoken to in a loud, rude and condescending manner. I am so done with the incompetent office staff at this place. Earlier I have had to wait hours while they neglected to let me know that the appointment I had was cancelled. I asked for the office manager and three calls later have still not heard from her. Time to look for a new health care provider. Horrible horrible customer service. read more

I switched to this practice (Dr Nandini Kohli) from another general practitioner. This practice is exceptional Dr. Kohli goes out of her way to spend over 1/2 hour and more with you as a patient. She makes sure she reviews every aspect of your health and any concerns you may have Such a difference from other doctor where you feel rushed. I cannot say enough about her. From the first visit on I felt as if she had been seeing me for years. The staff is helpful and pleasant. No attitude at all. What a refreshing change! read more

I only attended this doctor once. He placed me on two medications, told me there would be refills, and told me not to run out. They told me they have a 48 hour time limit for requests on refills. After four days, I went in to talk to the front staff, Madi. She was very cold and not at all helpful. She stated there was a request in for a refill and she would put a note on it for urgent. She said there was nothing else she could do. I work for a health care office and asked if she could simply grab my chart and ask the doctor between appointments. She told me they were too busy. The lobby was empty. I told her I was out and really needed it before the end of the day. I would call back to see if they had a chance to get to it. I called at 3pm. The lady put me on hold and returned in contempt. No luck. Called at 4:30 No luck. At 4:45 I call and hear 2-3 woman that start laughing when I give my name and ask if anyone was able to ask my doctor to refill my meds. No Luck. He has left for the day..... After doing some research and reading reviews I called and scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Kumar, unfortunately he is on vacation until September. Since he wasn't available I was advised that I could see Dr. Kohli and then when Dr. Kumar comes back do a follow up with him. BAD DECISION. My appointment was today. I sat and waited for almost 2 hours and still didn't see her. I got tired of waiting so I went to the front desk inquiring about the long wait time. At that time I was advised that she always runs behind and that she will see me in about 5 more minutes. I told them I don't have that kind of time to continue to sit and wait for a physician as my time is valuable to me grant it I drove about 30 miles to get there and had to go back to work. I requested my co-pay back and was told someone would give me call regarding it. I am also going to make sure that my insurance doesn't get charged for an office visit either. Before I left another patient was sitting there and advised that she had waited a very long time as well and when she did get seen by the Dr. she was only in there about 5 minutes. How crazy is that. You wait 2 hours and only be seen for 5 minutes or less. My husband's reply to this was "Honey you have the worst luck with doctors." I truly understand why people don't go see the doctors no one really cares anymore. Good doctors are hard to find. read more
