Well, I felt better just seeing Dr. Schroeder. I've been pretty down in the dumps since Harley died…read moreand our month-long trip really helped get me out of the doldrums! Getting to see my siblings was the highlight of the trip for me. Spending a lot of time outdoors with my dog getting more exercise than usual was the other highlight..... that is until I took a spill on one of our walks!! So, it's really unbelievable how many different parts of your body you can bruise and bang up from one little fall! I managed to get my chin, road rash on my right knee, huge bruises on the upper right knee, scraped right ankle, scraped left hand, and finally -my left foot (which I thought I probably sprained pretty badly based on the size and the colors it ended up being over the next few days.) Anyhow, I am a tough old bird and since we were out of state I really didn't want to go to the ER or an Urgent Care if it wasn't absolutely necessary so I stayed off of it as much as I could, all things considered, and it did improve very slowly but surely. Since this happened mid second week of our four week and two days trip, I really had expected it to be pretty much back to normal, but it is still hurting enough to cause me to limp, so I thought I better check in with Dr. Schroeder at Wells Branch Family Medical Center. She's been my doctor since 1990. I know, unbelievable, right?? I met her when I worked in long-term care back when doctors still went to facilities to see their patients. She was a very young DO, very personable, you could just see how much she cared about her patients and her communication skills were excellent. I asked her if she was taking on new patients in her practice and she was .....so the rest is history! Dr S. agreed that I should come in after reporting this injury. After examining my foot, she said that she thought it might well be fractured. We felt like it was probably the upper metatarsal considering where the swelling and the pain is. She ordered a foot and ankle X-ray which she ordered and I received today. Since I have been walking on it for over two weeks there was really no urgency and I did not expect to hear anything about the x-ray until tomorrow. I was a little surprised when she called this afternoon. Turns out I have something called a Jobe's fracture. Dr. S. recommends that I see an orthopedist and said it's highly unlikely I would need surgical intervention, but she does think that they will put me in a boot for 6 to 8 weeks. Jeez Louise, here we go again. I have got to quit falling! Bottom line here-I have had Dr. Schroeder as my Primary Care Physician for 30+ years and I still feel the same way about her care and concern and expertise as I did when I observed her seeing her patients in the long-term care facility. 40 (yes 40!!!) years ago. I don't know if she's taking any new patients so you'll have to call & check if you I have a need to make a change. I just wanted to write up a five star review because Dr. Schroeder and her team at Wells Branch are just incredibly awesome and I want to be sure they know it!!! Yvonne- At the front desk is so sweet and very efficient and Dr. Schroeder's nurse has been there for years and is quite a card. I must say that even though my foot ends up being broken, I felt better when I left the office, then I did when I came in! I hope anybody that happens to be reading this feels the same way about their practitioners. I just know that I am truly blessed, and I hope to be able to continue my visits when necessary for as long as I live!

One line summary: It's not terrible - check medical websites for better reviews…read more This is an office shared by several doctors located on the side of the strip mall facing the gas station. I read many positive reviews of Dr. Carlson at my insurance's medical review website, so I decided to book an appointment since I'm new to Austin and was looking for a family care practitioner. Dr. Carlson was great and answered all my questions, taking time to listen to a concern I had about a hearing problem I sustained after a basketball injury. After taking a look for himself, he recommended me with a list of 3 ear specialists just to make sure there was no long term damage. He also suggested that for my age, yearly check ups aren't as necessary, and every 2 years would suffice, so it's nice to know he's not looking to get as much money from me as possible. The only down side I experienced was it took about 9 days wait before I could get my appointment. I don't know how long waits normally are, or if this was an anomaly, but if I had the flu or something that needed attention quicker, 9 days is not very acceptable. Overall, I'm pleased with my experience here and would recommend it.

Heather, Dr Shaw, and our nurse (can't believe I can't remember her name) made sure my daughter understood what was happening and what to do. She was able to sleep after that visit. I've been to other urology practices in other cities and this one is by far the best I've experienced.

TO DR. SHAW, TO YOUR INVESTORS, OTHER OWNERS, AND TO YOUR POTENTIAL PATIENTS…read more You all are using bad business practices. I UNDERSTAND THE SURGERIES GO WRONG. BUT IT WAS MORE THAN THAT. Training moment for you all, please read. Hopefully other people can avoid this scenario. Do not use this urologist, go anywhere but here. Nothing but problems. 1. Dr. Shaw gave me a vasectomy and several days later I had a giant lump on the right side. Went back several times over the next few months to see him and only saw his associates who gave me round of antibiotics, three rounds in a row before addressing any of the problems. I would request to see him on the phone they would say yes it's with him and it would just be another person who's never seen me before. The last visit I had was with a woman who actually shot me straight and said this is not normal and did not want to give me a fourth round of antibiotics. 2. After these multiple visits request requesting him but getting a nurse or associate I Literally had to stand in the office and demand to see him, they pulled me aside because I was being a squeaky wheel demanding to see the surgeon who bought my operation. Hence, I finally got to see Dr. Shaw directly after months and months of pain and suffering . 3. He told me that he no longer uses the technique that he used on me for this very reason, he could fix it, but it's a surgery and he has to put me under and my insurance would not cover it. He also agreed he would not bill me for that appointment. He looked in my eyes, shook my hand and told me he would not bill me. 4. Months and months later I get a bill for that visit from Dr. Shaw's office. Today I called and when I questioned it, they said they would take the co-pay off and I asked if I should call my insurance agency so they can take the entire visit off as discussed. The associate at Dr. Shaw's office hung up on me. They are trying to cover their tracks on a false bill in over billing situation She then handed me over to the practice manager. Large lump is still here and I've seen another urologist to see about taking care of it. I do not recommend using Dr. Shaw because of his inability to see a patient directly after a surgery when something went wrong. I had to stand my ground and demand to see him before he would. Then he made false promises and build me in my insurance anyway. If I personally would rate him as a surgeon, I would say one star because he botched mine, but I'm sure some things go wrong. The true one star situation here is a lack of ability to address the problem, when he did address the problem he made false promises, The manager said she would call me back in three days. I'll have another post on this in three days to see if this was taken care of. I'm also contacting my insurance agency to report an over billing statement. Dr. Shaw, hello from Travis hope you see this and I'm sure you remember me. Again, the one star is not because you botched my surgery. It's because of lack of the ability to own up to it, are you going through three rounds of antibiotics for something? That's not an infection, me having to stand in front of your office and demand to see you before I could see you again, and then making false promises to me afterwards. You looked me directly into my eyes and shook my hand and made me false promises. This is on you, Dr. Shaw. I'm sure you're a good surgeon and this is not the standards of your operation. I hope this is a training moment to make your process better.
