Rubino provided us with a fair price, excellent customer service, beat his initial completion date and unbelievable quality. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! Worst experience ever and I am currently in the process of filing a…read morereport with the CSLB as this company is operating without a contractor's license. I was told that our project would take 6-8 weeks and at the 14 week point the project was less than halfway done and what had been completed was a mess. We hired RC Calegari to build custom cabinets throughout our primary bedroom and bathroom that would serve as our closets. After about 12 weeks the boxes had been installed but they were full of holes, the shelves were not straight and the edges were sloppy, etc. The design included drawers inside the cabinets but Ruben did not consider the door hinges when ordering the drawers and ordered them all the width of the cabinets so that they were unusable as there was no space for the hinges that the doors would be mounted on..one photo shows that a couple of the drawers are set back farther than the others because his solution was to mount the hinges IN FRONT OF THE DRAWERS. Like a fool I paid him every time he asked for a check which ended up being over $20k . Every time he came he promised to be finished "by the end of next week" but then I wouldn't see or hear from him again for several weeks. He was dishonest about how much material he had ordered and what work had been completed in the shop. He even ordered the wrong color edge banding which did not match the wood veneers we were using but continued putting it on the edges of shelves after I pointed out the mistake. After about 4 months of this we told him to halt any further work on our project and we hired an independent finish carpenter. Everything that RC Calegari had built and installed had to be removed. Ruben brought in his crew to remove everything from the bathroom but when we discovered that all of the other cabinets and a walk in closet area were also unusable and requested that he come in and remove them as well he stopped returning calls, texts and emails. I found Ruben to be a lovely man and I'm sure he believed that he and his company were capable of executing a true custom closet/cabinet project but I would not trust them to hang curtains. The workmanship was absolute garbage, he took the entire amount that he quoted us for the job and now is refusing to communicate with us. Furthermore, according to the CSLB they are operating illegally without a license. We are out over $20k and now in the process of taking legal action. Just don't.

If you only read the first sentence of this review I want you to know that Ritchie Brothers…read moreConstruction is a fantastic contractor and we were 500% pleased with the end result...and working with Jeff was a great experience and we will be calling him the next time we need work done. We interviewed 6 contractors to complete our kitchen renovation and we weren't happy with any of them. Many of them were more like project managers/designers that would never get their hands dirty. They would drive up in their BMW dressed in their GQ attire...and would ultimately charge us an additional 15% so they could make money on the deal. I had a vision of what I wanted my kitchen to look like so I didn't need a designer, I needed a contractor...someone to bring my vision to life. We were ultimately referred to Jeff Ritchie by a co-worker and when he showed up he was in his work truck and work boots. After having a conversation with him about what we wanted, we knew he was the one. That's the best part about Jeff, he's a regular guy with some pretty amazing construction skills. Our renovation entailed removing a 20 ft load bearing wall, removing another wall, re-routing the HVAC on both floors, electrical panel, plumbing, re-running gas line, rebuilding our back wall, installing two 14 ft sliders, opening up the stair wall, finishing work on the fireplace, installing flooring, building pantry and pantry shelves, crown molding throughout, and lighting throughout. I had all of my finishes chosen and many of them purchased, but was still questioning some of them. I bounced questions off Jeff and he convinced me to go talk to some of "his guys", places where he sources many of his products, such as Marbolis, Cabinet Factories Outlet, and Kim's Iron Works. (Don't listen to the reviews for these companies on Yelp. If you have a contractor like Jeff, these companies will bend over backwards for you). His recommendations turned out to be the best decisions we made. One great quality about Jeff is his attention to detail. I am a perfectionist and would point out the smallest blemish that no one else would even see and his team would have it fixed the next time I walked through the door. He never made me feel like I was being a pain or that I was inconveniencing him. He made me feel like I was the one in charge and that anything I wanted, he would make happen. I even took on a little bit of the work myself and Jeff coached me on the best ways to accomplish the results I wanted. This advice was invaluable and taught me a lot. Our renovation cost us more than we expected but we knew that was a possibility with any contractor. Our house is over 50 years old and had never had work done to it before but in the end, we have a brand new first floor, approximately 1500 sf. Jeff wasn't the lowest bid, but he was on the lower end and I have no doubt that Ritchie Brothers Construction was the best choice. I only hope his team will let me cook them the steak dinner I promised them in my new kitchen!!!!

After scheduling the work, they were very prompt on timing, very respectful of my home, and easy to have around for all the time that they were there. I was referred to him from someone I know at Floor and Decor, who thought he waslicensed. He might do work under a licensed contractor, but if you hire him directly, like I did to do a small job, to cut holes in tile to place the fixtures, he isn't licensed. And he didn't cut the openings large enough, so I had to have someone else cut some more. I did show him, and he didn't come back and fix the issue. In this case, I am sad...because I wanted to hire him for a bigger job, but won't! Buyer beware!
