Tremendous selection new every week thoughtful employees, tough to park but try right up the street

Showcase is easily the best comic book and gaming store the Philly area. Their selection of new/current comics, back issues, "wall books" graphic novels/trades, miniature gaming, card games/ccg's, role-playing games and table top games is absolutely fantastic! If you're looking for a comic book store that has a great selection, you need not go no further. This is a great comic book store and knowledgeable staff. Parking can be kind of tough, but you're in a college town, with Bryn Mawr college. Other shoppers, are interested in comics gaming and books in general. Friendly staff, good collection of comics, and has a good range of different trading cards

Really nice, large space with a pretty good selection. I went here seeking a specific thing that they didn't (apparently) have in stock, though they had other volumes of the same series. I didn't get to ask. The downsides: parking was a nightmare. The guy working the register was so involved in his conversation with another guy that he completely ignored me several times over the half hour or so that we were at the store. Totally cool with them geeking out over fandom but my question would have taken less than thirty seconds and I couldn't get his attention. Lots of figurines, card games, paint, arts & crafts stuff, which isn't my thing but if it's yours, this would be a great spot. read more

I don't want to contradict someone else's experience but I want to respond to the accusation that the store's owner is racist. I came in today with my friend, a black woman, her 5 year old autistic child, also black, and the child's therapist, a Latin woman. The four of us shopped for about half an hour and spent over $100 collectively. The owner was courteous and helpful to all of us equally, and we found the experience 100% positive. We had lots of various questions and he answered them all professionally and with kindness. We even accidentally spilled a small glass of water on the floor, and although he obviously wasn't thrilled about that, he wasn't a jerk about it when he could have been. I got an autographed Elvira comic for a GREAT deal, as well as numerous bargain comics and graphic novels and a brand new table top game. We also got comics for the kid. I told him we would be back and I meant it. As soon as payday hits he can absolutely expect to see my face again! read more

Showcase Comics Bryn Mawr is a large shop with parking in the nearest lot you can find. Good new pull selection with a solid amount of variety. Long box selection was also good, but was too tightly packed for easy browsing. Shop also has a large graphic novel selection and a fair selection of manga. Board game selection was fair with a selection of miniatures and books also available. Collectables are not a major part of this shop as they don't have a wide selection. Overall, this is a solid, clean comic book shop that has a little bit of something for everyone. read more

Extremely unpleasant experience with a staff member with glasses. We had found parking that said it was reserved for Showcase Comics (did NOT specify "employees only"), and as we were walking in we got yelled at by him that the space was his and we had to move. We had no issues moving whatsoever (it was a misunderstanding, we didn't realize it was reserved for employees, no signage stating so), but the tone and aggression he displayed towards us was absolutely uncalled for and turned us off from going in. There's other board game and comic stores run by kind individuals, and your patronage is better served there. read more

It has been awhile since I have been in this store but till this day it's owner is some of the worse customer service experience I have ever had. There are plenty of other comic and gaming stores that are more professional and welcoming. You should visit any of those over this location because clearly the only reason this place remains open is because of the space and location not the service. read more

Really great store with a ton of back issues, wall books, recent books, and the TPB/graphic novel selection is pretty much second to none. The only real downside here is trying to find somewhere to park nearby, as almost all of the lots are constantly full, but I don't hold it against them. Good prices, good selection, can't ask for much more. read more

I'm fond of all the comic book stores that Philly has to offer. But I just don't feel they compensate for Showcase being a long train ride away from the city (in fact thats the only reason they're losing a star). This place is the paradise of comics, card games, models, and so much more (at least when it comes to Philly). I've been going to their Sunday game day for years and it always brings out an interesting crowd. they might not always get along as far as what game is better, and it might bring out some space cadets. But I always manage to get in a few good games and pick up some needed cards. As far as comics it's one of the best (Fat Jacks actually might top them). they have an extensive collection, and plenty of rarities on the wall. and if you can't find what you're looking for, which is rare, the staff is friendly enough to order it for you. Really great selection. The knitting girl at the counter was pushy and rude though. She followed us around the store, really really pushing us to buy everything we looked at. She described something I wanted to buy wrong. When I went to return it, she did t want to. The store manager said it was ok, but she still had to make a snarky comment to me when she returned it - "usually, if you buys it, you keeps it." Was that comment really necessary? Is it worth losing a customer and getting bad word of mouth over? If the manager/owner guy wasn't so nice, this would be a one star review. read more

The best of the Showcase locations. Their inventories of graphic novels, trades, and back issues are all staggering. While their table top section beats out most dedicated gaming stores. I live two hours away from this location but the store and staff's excellence makes the drive well worth it. read more

I don't know comic book shops, but I had to make a game purchase--not a Parker Bros/Toys 'r' Us kind of buy, so I sought this place out. (Munchkin, if you MUST know.) They were really nice and friendly and my feathers didn't hackle at all, if you'll pardon the mixed metaphor. There were guys in the back "gaming" at a table, as they say, but there was actually another girl in there too (gasp). I'm down with the whole local shop vibe goin on. read more

Great store! They never make you feel like a dingus for asking questions about anything. Both guys I have spoken with are always super informed and helpful when it comes to choosing books and new series I have been thinking about picking up. The back issue selection is AWESOME! This is something really lacking in a lot of shops I visit anymore. I'm a child of the 80s and still need to grab some key books to fill in holes, this place is PERFECT when it comes to that! Not super pricey (actually darn right cheap for some runs!) and not graded stuff so you can really enjoy it. Keep on keeping on guys! read more

Having moved to the area a couple of months ago, I was delighted to discover Showcase was only a short walk from my apt. The staff are by and large friendly and helpful, the manager is especially nice. Their selection is really solid too, and their prices are on par with any other shop. As a woman who has only been heavily reading comics for a few years, I've come to expect rudeness, confused stares and general disrespect in these establishments - but not here. I have never been patronized or condescended to for any question I have asked or comic backstory I remembered wrong. This is a comfortable and friendly comic environment, and one I will keep returning to. I have never felt like anything but a valued customer, which should be a given, but it often isn't. I am more than happy doing my comic shopping here. read more

This place is fantastic! I'm mostly into role playing games and this is one of the last really great Friendly Local Gaming Stores (FLGS) left in the Philly area. They have a great selection and even carry some very obscure indie games. The staff is awesome and totally ready to help you out or chat about what they carry. read more

Best comic book spot in the city.... that's all.... No? Ok, I guess I'll say why it is. I'm really into manga... this place's manga selection puts any other to shame (in terms of comic book shops). You can find anything from Batman manga to stuff like One Piece to the more obscure stuff like Color of Rage. Back issues on American comics? Once again, almost unbeatable in this area. The only slight drawback on this shop is that it fits ALOT into a very tight space. There isn't a huge toy selection but graf artists will be tickled....well... all sorts of colors (pink if you want) to find pretty decent spray paint cans here (since they aren't so easy to get in Philly... specially not for the younger crowd). What else is there to say? If you are looking for clothes, don't come here....at all.... but that's not what comic shops are for so I won't knock any points. The staff isn't the friendliest, but they aren't exactly rude either, will always help you find what you're looking for, will order stuff just for you if it's not in stock, and generally won't mock you for not being too savvy on the difference between what an Indigo lantern and a Violet lantern can do. I use to go in here twice a week to buy my son comics. The owner was usually the person that would help me if I ever needed anything. Not to long ago I went in here to look for something new for my son and there was a tall gentleman with glasses. It was 10 minutes before they closed and he could not have been more rude to me. He answered all me questions with one word and then refused to talk to me about the 10 pack comics they have for sell. Long story short he swore at me after an exchange of words and told me to get out bc it was past closing time by 3 minutes. Never going back. read more

There's a reason Showcase Comics has thrived so long in the Main Line area while other comic book stores have collapsed: they are unrivaled in inventory. Wether it's comics, games, graphic novels or figurines, Showcase Comics has always had the most competent collection imaginable. After traveling miles away to a Games Workshop (the manufacturers of Warhammer 40K figurines) in Cottman, my friends and I were disappointed to find their catalogue dwarfing in comparison to our hometown's library of merchandise. After visiting one of the most prominent and largest comic book stores in the Los Angeles area, I was disappointed they no longer carried the trade paper back of a less than a decade old comic. Showcase had the entire series. Beyond their wide assortment of merchandise the Showcase Comics staff is knowledgable and patient; hosting numerous events throughout the week for various collectable games that caters to all ages. Showcase Comics is an exceptional comic location that I find myself becoming more fond of with every visit. read more

I have been there twice with my son and twice called on the phone and every time the man at the front (the owner?) has been incredibly rude and nasty to me. We drove a long way to go to his shop and to be treated like that for no reason is why I won't go back. I would rather buy from the internet than support a local business like that. read more

Good stock of new and old books. The low rating is because I just cannot get over how much of an ass the owner can be. He is unfriendly whenever I go in there. Just plain rude. This comic book store is the worst customer service store ever. Ive been here a few times, but I will never go back there again. They have a large selection of comic books, but it's not worth your time because the workers are miserable and don't want to help you. Well.. it's not really all the workers, just the one guy name Chris who refused to serve me today. I've never been so upset and discriminated towards. He helped every one in the store but refused to help me. He said he couldn't help me because he was the only one working, however he went on to help other customers. My service is just as good as any customer. I will tell all my friends and family about this place, and warn them to never come here. read more

this is the mutha of comic book stores! nestled in the burbs, you have to get out of dodge and travel here if you wanna experience the glory of graphic novels, posters, toys, and gaming. this place is easily accessible by the r5 septa regional rail. just hop off at bryn mawr and it is about a 10 minute walk. this place is huge! a small asian village could live in here! ok, it would be a very small village, but you get my drift. the store carries a lot of comic books. lots of back issues, which is always a plus for people, like myself, who wait and then realize they have gaps in their collections. the staff is super helpful and when i go, i never get any snotty attitude. when i do my comic book crawl (yes, i do this!), i make sure that this place is on my list of stops. this place = top of the pops. read more

We buy primarily games and minis and Showcase Comics is the place we always start. We love them! The big attraction of the place is the staff. Friendly & competent, they are always ready to help you find stuff or order stuff. They will even take orders over the phone which you can go down and pick up when the item comes in. If they don't have an item, they're usually able to get it for you within a reasonable amount of time. The store is very attractive with lots of things to entice you inside. It's clean, well lit and has ample space for gamers to try out games. Unlike some of the other posters, we're coming in from middle Montogomery County, so Showcase is a perfect location for us. Parking is available around the corner in a big municipal lot. There are parking meters, but on Sunday parking is free. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff. We purchased Eldritch Horror and had a good conversation about Magic: the Gathering and Heroclix. Great stock of board and card games and a decent amount of space to play games. We'll be back to pick up new games regularly. read more

OK, Ralph gets a reprieve from me. I went to an FNM there against my better judgement and he was not a condescending d*ck to me. He was actually very pleasant. I've also noticed that they have a couple newer employees as well. They were friendlier than ones in the past. I dunno, I might start shopping there every so often again. They also got a newer store which is far less cramped and "dank?" than the old one. I don't know how else to describe the old one but you used to have to go down to this musty old basement for Magic Tournaments and now it's all on the first floor and brightly lit. Either way. I can sum up Showcase Comics in Bryn Mawr pretty quickly: The best comic book store bar none in the area. Period, end of discussion. I've also taken several girl friends, my wife, and other female friends to Showcase and it's one of the few comic stores they actually like going into. The back issues are generally decently graded and the wall rotates enough to make it fresh enough to stop in from time to time.
