Whenever I'm on South Street I always visit Atomic Comics. This place is a treasure trove for anyone who loves comics & collectibles. From the moment I walked in, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I wish the arcade machines worked but they're only for display. The shelves are packed w/ everything from the latest ,manga,Marvel & DC (you name it they have it)issues to rare back issues that you don't see anywhere else. I spent ages flipping through back issues, discovering old favorites, & even some titles I'd never heard of before. The manga section is amazing too! Honestly, it's one of the best I've ever seen! And the collectibles! Action figures, vintage posters, Funko Pops, & even some high-end statues sprinkled throughout the store made it feel like a mini museum of nerdy goodness. The staff are super friendly & clearly love what they do. They were happy to chat about my finds, give recommendations, or just geek out w/ me over classic storylines. I even found a few hidden gems in the dollar bins that felt like little victories. Atomic Comics isn't just a store it's an experience. It's cozy & full of charm. If you love comics, collectibles, or just want to spend a few hours exploring a place where fandom really comes alive, this is the spot! I'll def be coming back! read more

A large, handi cap accessible comic store that has more than just comics. There's catcha machines, funko pops, t shirt, plushies, action figures, and more. There's an array of comics from good for kids to mature audiences only. The staff is friendly, the place is popin, definitely a place to stop in if you're interested in anything nerdy read more

Whenever we're in South St we swing by this comic store; It has everything from classic Marvel and DC, Funko Pops, and even the latest manga. My daughter was psyched because they had Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer maga she likes. The vibe is fun and nostalgic with vintage vending catcha machines and old video games around. read more

Atomic City Comics - Ciaran - Comic Books Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The greatest place on earth, my childhood comic book store. Spent many days and nights reading the books in this store as if it were my personal library back in the day, that was 20 years ago, they were a couple doors away and the owner and his wife had just gotten married. Forgot his name but he was a good man, I remember the staff would tell him there was a kid in the store reading all the books everyday and he always told them to just let me read. He didn't see me as a burden, and one year on Christmas he told me, my sister and cousin to all pick out one book to have for free! To this day I think back about this moment and have chills. Truly a great man, a great store, and an absolute legend on south street. read more

Stopped in during a trip to Philly and felt so welcomed and cozy in the store. Huge selection of comics and manga and more. Staff were very helpful and friendly as well. Walked away with some comics to bring home! read more

What a cool store! Comic (duh!) books, books, FUNKO POPS, posters, tees and old school standing video games and cool decor. Top it will knowledgeable and nice employees, and right on South Street! My daughter got a Michael Myers POP and a tote bag. It was a lot of fun :) read more

Well organized, well stocked, reasonable prices, and good options for all levels of comic interests and ages. As we checked out a kid excitedly yells "They have number seven!" and I know someone found a new treasure. It's in the city so expect the street traffic and access, the shop is narrow and can get crowded. But worth the stop to check out new material and support local fun! read more

Geek paradise. Comics? Check. T-shirts from awesome movies/comics? Check. Action figures? Check. That totally badass X-Men arcade game from the early 90s? Check. (But it was broken when I was there.) Really nice guy running the cash register? Check. Cafe-type area to enjoy your new purchases and have a soda? Check. I've been to other comic book stores that were bigger and had a better selection, but Atomic City is an eclectic combination of geekery that should be a stop on any self-respecting nerd's tour of Philly. read more

Great selection, but why don't the cashier's bag the books when you ask them to? Kinda rude

Love this place !! Eye candy for comic book and super heroes fans. We go in every time we're anywhere near South Street. The staff are cool and it's a color explosion (in a wild funky kaleidoscope sort of way.) Sweet discounts with subscriptions. It's a bit of a trek for us but the discount and friendliness make it worth the trip. We've been to a variety of comic shops and for whatever reason, lots of store managers seem to have a chip on their shoulders, maybe managing a comic shop is so cool they feel they're better than the customers ? Anyway, we're delighted to have found this fun shop with its chill staff. read more

My kids slipped into this manga Shangri-La where neither time nor adult entreaties affected them. Atomic had all of their favorite books, and then some. I saw a table of graphic novels that I secretly wanted to read. I made suggestions, but was rebuffed. So, reading material everywhere. Books are great companions. Some collectibles, such as the One Ring, and faux vintage patches for backpacks. And, of course, Funkos for the funky. Obscure ones, too. The books with adult matter are shelved high. The table with free goodies is placed low. Prices are pretty decent. The twenty-somethings working there were fine with me. My older daughter has autism and her friends are manga and her human sister. I support a place that makes all kinds of kids happy. I gotta go. Grandma's making stew tonight. read more

It's not that I don't necessarily like Atomic City. It's just that I have fond memories of when It used to be Showcase #2 and Atomic City will never be able to top it as much as they try. And of course the fact that they still have The Showcase sign up doesn't help much, and makes me feel the need to take my comic shopping to Bryn Mawr when ever I come here. The Showcase that used to be here was 2 times the size (seriously, The game store, and whatever fashion(?) jewelry(?) that's sandwiched in between where part of showcase) and housed 2 times the merchandise. There was also a mini arcade and they had gaming days every weekend. By comparison Atomic City has half as much stuff and no additional gaming days. It's still a great spot to go for comics. And the staff are incredibly helpful and cool. You'll just see me at Fat Jacks or Showcase. read more

I have never stepped foot inside the store. My only experience was with one of the customer service representatives and it was grossly mishandled. There is a proper way to deal with customers and then there is sarcasm, libelist claims, blaming others..... I hope that isn't how you treat people face to face. read more

Okay, this review is definitely for a certain demograhic, but here goes: This little CC comic book store is super friendly and very helpful. If you are wondering why you would come here, just know that there is more to comics than superman. The staff here will help you find a great comic book for any boy or girl no matter what their hobby. I came here to get some really funky art work. I found a really cool comic book (that reminded me of the Issac's art work in Hereos) and framed them. I used the rest to wrap the gift. And now I am officially the coolest cousin. read more

Had all the things I liked. LGBTQ section and dollar comics. They have a very large selection of trades. Also everything else you could think of, shirts, pins, collectibles, buttons, manga and more. Everything seemed a bit cluttered and dusty in some areas. The cashier didnt seem very knowledgeable about what was in stock or not. I would check this out to discover new trades. read more

I'm into off the beaten path graphic novels and I was pleasantly surprised they have a wide assortment of them. They also have a lot of really great horror graph novels too which I was happy to see. I wanted to buy the whole store based off all the amazing selection they had. And the guy behind the counter was super friendly. They also had a kids section which I thought was really cool. They seem to have something for everyone and even if you don't know if someone is into comics, buy them one because chances are they'll get hooked. read more

This is one of the best Comic Book shops in Philadelphia, Pa. I have attended several store events in the past like Free Comic Book Day. Atomic City Comics is located deep within Philadelphia, so good luck with parking. Shop is actually larger than it looks as it's long and narrow. Large new pull selection and a HUGE selection of graphic novels, perhaps the largest I have ever seen. Manga selection is good, but not fully organized. Shop has few wall books and they are behind glass. Several arcade machines including X-Men were available, but condition and maintenance were an issue with one machine not functioning. Some toys and collectables are also available along with t-shirts. Back room has a fair selection of longboxes, with one issue being various adult media books shelved in open sight. Finally, behind the checkout counter there are several cool autographs from various celebrities. Overall, I would give this shop about a 3.5, but I'm rounding it up to a 4 for Atomic City Comics challenging city location. read more

This is such an amazing nugget of a comic/toy/hobby shop/store rolled into one! The owners are super chill, there are plenty of gashipon goodies, hard to get figma and figuarts in mint condition (even some that are cheaper than the online stores) as well as mounds of comic books and manga. There's even a X-men arcade in the back to rob you of the quarters that you no longer carry! I bought an Akane figuarts for $40 and I'm still really happy about it! It'll be cool to see if they resupply their action figures so I'll know ahead of time and purchase from them directly! read more

It was a overall nice experience but unlike some of the lazier folk in this review section I didn't mind standing in a store and the atmosphere and the employees helped me find the chapter of a manga I needed with no hesitation even pulling out a phone to search for a question I had and they play some cool vibe music plus if you need manga this is the place for you besides not having a little bit of em like dorohedoro read more

You walk in the store and get no response. The staff are always occupied doing anything but being assistance to you. I can go to other places and get better deals; why should I pay the extra six percent sales tax, where in the burbs it is 5%. Good luck trying to find parking or any back issues, really a challenge I go in maybe two to three times a year, if that, (only if am in South Philly and I want to spoil my God-children). But really, I just go to Post Philcon flyers. read more

I've visited comic stores ALL over the country, and I've gotta say...I expected better. Virtually no back issue selection, and though we were looking at various items, not one person asked us if we needed help. The three arcade machines dominate the space, and one of them doesn't even work at time of this writing. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! THEY WILL STEAL YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO! I few months back I went here and bought some comic and a few days later my bank account was completely drained. Now I know you may think, "you don't know it was them though." That's a good point, until this past weekend when I had a friend come visit from another state and the only place he used his debit card was this store. The next day he had THREE withdrawals around Philly for $200 each. He wasn't in Philly at the time so it has to be someone at this store. We contacted police but they don't care because he lives out of state and my claim "holds no weight." Great job Philly PD, awesome as always. So avoid this store because they WILL steal your credit card info. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood shops. I love to stop in to see what's new and pick up a comic while I walk around on South St.

I go here to pick up my mangas and collectibles, and most of the staff is great, and have become more like friends over the years. Typically the guys at the front counter are great, funny, and very informative The only downside is the one very wierd older white guy that works there (maybe a manager or owner). I'm not easily creeped out, especially by fellow comic nerds, but this guy makes me feel very uncomfortable, and quite frankly unwelcome in his shop. read more

Normally, I dislike going into comic shops because they usually feel like some secret club guarded by geeky douche bros that scorn any woman who steps foot inside. Not the case with Atomic City. This place is very welcoming to everyone who comes through their doors. They have a HUGE selection of comics, in very genre; indie, manga, mainstream, you name it. And they are all listed in alphabetical order, so it's easy to find whatever you're looking for. In addition, the staff are really friendly and helpful and will make conversation with you while checking out your order. I like this place. They take credit cards, but only with a $10 minimum. read more

Walked in, there was some sort of "card" game going on. Yes, murder me with your Pokemon cards or magic cards but yeah... Nerd central. They had a pretty good selection of comic books and anime but unless you live in the area and don't have to drive or walk too far, it's not worth coming just to go here unless of course... you're a total nerd and there's a Pokemon tournament here. Pokemon. Parking: Very limited paid street parking read more

I've been to a few comic book shops in Philly and this one is by far my favorite! I always come here for random comics and I LOVE the Street Fighter video game in the back. Always a competition between me and my fiance. lol. The staff are super helpful and friendly. They recommend new things to read and I love the random movies they have on. Definitely one of my favorite places on South Street! read more

As I was reading through older reviews, I don't get how a *comic* store would get a negative review for being nerdy. It's a **comic store** that sells comics, manga, pop culture merchandise, Magic the Gathering cards, posters of Harley Quinn and Mr. J, and etc. Of course it caters to nerds and geeks. That's like going to a strip club and complaining about how there's too many half naked ladies dancing. Moving on, Atomic City has a large selection of comics (dc/marvel/indie/etc.) and surprisingly a large selection of manga series. Considering Barnes & Nobles is a near extinct chain store, this place is a god send. Just remember that, everything you see on shelf is what they have in stock. https://www.facebook.com/atomiccitycomics/app/190322544333196/ ^They do indicate what they will stock though. They do host frequent tournaments for an assortment of games and card games as well as parties/meet-and-greet events. In addition, they also have arcade machines of old-timey games, and a large assortment of toy capsule vending machines for children (and adults!). read more

An excellent shop with a wide selection of merch. Great t-shirts, kid's comics, mainstream comics, indie comics and mature comics are all waiting for you. They also have a ton of manga, trade paperbacks and trading cards too. Pretty anything you could want is here. I consider this my home store and considering I'm from Mt. Airy, that's saying a lot. read more

Refused to call the police while I was assaulted inside the store. Treated me like trash, and threw me out although I did nothing. This is not a safe place to shop. read more

I love this place and I'm not afraid to say it. My friends usually suggest coming here because they want to play the Mortal Kombat arcade game in the back. I never mind the suggestion because while they play, I get to wander the store. I flip through the comic books, play with the cool toys and look at all the awesome t-shirts they have. I usually end up buying something (last time was a Dr. Who sticker book which is awesome LOL) and they have a blast on the arcade games. It's a win-win for everyone! read more

This store among others makes South Street interesting for me. I only spent half a day in Philly and I'll always remember this store. I guess the kid (or geek / nerd / dork) in me will always appreciate a great store like Atomic. They were playing an episode of Heroes Seaaon 1 on the plasma/flatscreen. They had an awesome poster of all the characters from the Street Fighter series by the front desk for 16 bucks. If I had a game room it would be filled with Pinball machines, an Initial D and DDR machine, a bunch of street fighter coin ops, a billiard table, pachinko machines, and a bunch of art work and memorabilia from this store. I caught up on the latest SPAWN - no. 170 - and read the whole thing without getting hastled. Everything is well laid out and organized in this store. Since I have some time to kill on the Chinatown bus ride from Philly to NYC, I got another copy of ? JTHM ? - Johnny the Homicidal Maniac for my reading pleasure. For those curious my profile pic of Leonor comes from this artist Jhonen Vasquez. If your a comic book fan this is worth a visit. read more

***NERD ALERT**** ****NERD ALERT**** I am not a nerd, but if i was, I would shop at Atomic City. My friend is a nerd and he occasionally drags me along (kicking and screaming) so he can do nerd things. They have a huge selection of nerdy comics, nerdy graphic novels and nerdy figurines (toys). The nerdy staff is very knowledgeable and the the place is always filled with other nerds talking about Magic Cards and twelve sided dice. I recommend Nerd City, I mean Atomic City for all your nerdy needs. read more

This place has existed at some level or another since I was kid and I have always loved it there. Now that I am old and married... I still do. They have a great selection of very tastefully curated books, manga, comics (and arcade machines!!!) and the staff is always that great level of nerd that you can talk with. They genuinely care about the pop-culture they sell and are well informed to the point where they'll make a great recommendation if you ask, but won't berate you if they don;t like what you do. There's a perfect balance in comic-book stores between the level of "geekiness" and the level of service/accessibility and this place has it. My only issue with the place is that they don't allow dogs in, which if you live in South Philly is pretty much "not acceptable" anymore as there are more dogs in my neighborhood than people... but whateves man. Place is great and so is the staff. So if you're in the area and are looking for a cool comic book store - this would be it. read more

Stopped in here because I had about an hour to blow before my flight out of philly.", Place was so cool. Very clean and organized. Didn't smell like comic book kids b.o. or somebody's backroom closet. Comics were clearly marked and organized, not thrown Willy nilly into buckets. The place has a ton of very unique collectible items, some card games/board games stuff, and to top it all off, a few old school arcade boxes. Friendly staff.
