I just left Dr. Yao's office and was very impressed with the way he is keeping his staff and his patients safe. Anyone who know me personally know how I am especially about germs. While waiting for the Dr. I sat an observed the way they handled business. When the Dr. came in I thanked him for keeping his staff and patients safe. He told me he never closed his office due to the virus and always have taken measures to protect both staff and patients. He told me he had 3 more degrees outside of the ENT one being Public Health. The office was extremely nice and clean, and Dr. Yao have great bedside manners and is very informative. The Dr. sanitized his hands upon entering the room, he walked in and put gloves on, he was wearing a mask and a shield, asked me to pull back my hair an began to examine my ears. He checks my nose and throat as well. When he was done, the gloves went right in the trash. He said each room is fully wiped down after each patient. I have a follow up appt for a few hearing test. Oh I forgot to mention as you walk in the door there are many chairs however for your protection the seating is 6 feet apart and before you go to your room your temperature will be taken and you must sanitize your hands. My son has bleeding nose problem so our family doctor referred us to Dr Yao, the dr Yao office said unless my son has life threatening or in the emergency room with the nose tissue then they can see him. after months waiting, my son was in their office since 12pm till 1pm today, they said they wont see him till he make the copay $20. So I called, they put in on hold for over 20 mins, I offer to pay over the phone then they told me it's illegal without my presence. So I made it there to their office in 8 mins. Have to take off work as family emergency. Paid the copay. Then finally a Norse showed up. Have the gates to heaven opened?! Dr. Yao is very professional and passionate for what he does. I got an ear infection from swimming and was transferred to his office. After the first visit, he noticed the keloids (excessive skin) on both my ears. [A note to my younger self: don't be a clueless, rebellious teen and get your cartilage pierced multiple times with a gun at cheap, shady kiosks in the mall.] He expressed his experience performing minor incisions to remove the keloids so, of course, I agreed and set up the appointments. I'll admit that my first visit took longer than expected in the waiting room. But I understand he's the only doctor seeing all these patients one on one, and he actually spends the time to check up on each. I've had doctors in the past who wouldn't even look me in the eyes or ask how I'm doing. If you don't like to wait for someone worth waiting for, I'd advise you go try to find a doctor who won't waste time asking about your well-being. Before and during the operations, he would keep me updated on every step along the process. He took before and after photos with my consent, which just shows how much pride he takes in his work. It's great. To readdress the waiting time since that's probably the biggest pet peeve for everyone, I'd bring a book or something productive to work on. I'm back!!! Another outstanding review for Dr. Yao! He performed a tonsillectomy on my oldest daughter back in 2018 and did such a great job I brought my youngest daughter to see him! She's 8 years old and recently (literally 1 week ago) had a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and turbinate resection! Being that my daughter is only 8, my anxiety was on HIGH! But Dr. Yao was VERY patient with me... he listened, showed compassion and reassured me that he would take great care of my baby girl! Right before procedure time, he walked me out to the waiting room and again reassured me! I literally could have hugged him! Rusmee was also great! She is his procedure scheduler and she did an amazing job walking me through it all, making sure the authorization was submitted and approved and also came into the exam room at the time of my daughter's post op to ask how it all went! Dr. Yao was both pleasant and reassuring, I had went in for a second opinion but I waited over 2 hours for a scheduled appointment. The doctor's response to my waiting time? "Oh, its people like me that makes him popular!" I have worked in the patient office-setting for over a decade and this lack of regard to patients' time is truly disrespectful. I will not come back, nor would I recommend this office. Also, upon refusing to sign the release of patient information, the front desk had stated my signature was required to process my insurance claim when the document itself, clearly stated my refusal to do so will not affect my treatment, insurance billing, etc. The girl insisted that I need to sign if I was going to be seen. I had all but refrain myself that she cannot read English, but my prompt reply was, "I will talk to the doctor about this." The doctor never mention the matter and after two hours of fuming from waiting, I forgot to inquire about it. If the front desk can lie to my face, who's to say what they may "do" behind closed doors. If you have time, by all means, schedule an appointment. The location of his office is a bit hidden, I had my brother, who went there before, point me out the driveway to get in. Going north on Las Tunas, the driveway is hidden behind a building, and you'll have to turn into the middle lane to turn into the driveway. Doctor Shounan Yao seems very knowledgeable about everything, and was able to explain it clearly to us even in English (though we understood Chinese, I guess we were a bit too "ABC" looking, so he spoke to us in English). He explained everything in a easy to understand manner with no crazy medical terms that would confuse us. The only downside to seeing this doctor is that the wait time is incredibly long (I guess it's because he is incredibly thorough.) We had an appointment at 10:30am and we didn't even get seen until 12pm. We literally waited there in his waiting room/patients' room for 1.5 hours. According to my brother, who has been there repeatedly to see Doctor Yao, the wait time always ranges between 30min-1 hour after your appointment. read more

Dr. Yao is an excellent (ENT) head and neck surgeon, one of the best and most skilled in the San Gabriel Valley area. I've suffered from nose congestion, runny nose, and headaches for many years. I previously visited another ENT doctor at a famous, renowned hospital in LA and after the examination process, he told me that I absolutely need to have surgery (under general anesthesia). I then visited Dr. Yao for a second opinion and I'm glad I did. After reading my CT scan, he suggested a smaller, less invasive procedure done under local anesthesia. I went through with it and the whole process took only 15 minutes. Since then, my symptoms have lessened and 2 months later, my CT showed a 100% improvement in my sinus condition. I had always felt intense pressure in my head but now, the pressure has almost completely disappeared thanks to Dr. Yao. I highly recommend this doctor to anybody. read more

I don' t understand how their appointments work. I have been going here for 1.5 years and every single freakin time.. I wait at least 1 hour, regardless what time I come in. Oh, I have tried coming in earlier and ended waiting longer because they said it's not my time yet and of course, all of the other patients are backed up. Dr. Yao is good but I feel he's always rushing and not taking the time to go into details the issues. Recent appointment they forgot to call to remind me, so I called and they said it has already pass and I didn't show up so I told them I never got a call. Then the receptionist's voice changed. He told the nurse at front desk that I need Sinus Rinse and Nurse charge me $15. Found out Costco sell Five times quantity for $16 same brand and same item. What a rip from this medical office. I went for my appointment today at 9:15 and I was the first one who arrived, they put me in the room around 9:25 and the doctor showed up at 9:51. In the mean time I heard he went to the other room to see other patient first, I was so upset so the first thing I asked him when he entered was " I was the first one here how come you went to see somebody else?" He slammed the door and was being rude said that was his staff so he had to see that patient first. So I got up and said I didn't wish to be seen because he didn't even apologize and gave me bad attitude instead. I'm really disappointed to this doctor and the last time I had my 11:15 appointment with him, I showed up at 10:45 and I was be seen around 1pm.
