I went here last night for a private event. The menu lineup we were offered was absolutely AMAZING and everything was so delicious. Shoto is a family owned restaurant that offers casual dining with familiar Asian entrees as well as so much more! They also offer a wide selection of gluten free and allergy friendly options as well. Shoto is also home to Mama Chi's Chicken & Cheese Eggrolls and Jimmy the Bartender's Speakeasy, which can be found on the 2nd floor.

Good authentic Japanese food. A little hidden gem in Lexington is what shoto's is. I've had their takeout numerous times but decided to dine in this time. Everything was very good as always, on Fridays & Saturdays they run specials that include sushi and specialty cocktails. It's advertised that it begins at 5 but that doesn't insure that sushi will be available then. So if you're traveling for the sushi I advise calling ahead to double check that it is going to be available!

This place would not normally come across my radar but I'm so glad we stopped in. I enjoyed the crab ragoon egg rolls. How unique. The sushi was tasty. The sesame seeds added a depth of flavor that I really enjoyed. The noodles and rice were just ok. I wouldn't order that again. The waitress was super helpful. I especially liked the upstairs bar. The bartender was skilled and knowledgeable. Id like to come back to taste more items

I truly don't know where to start! What an amazing experience I had at this restaurant! From the amazing food, great service and wonderful drinks by Jimmy. This is the place to be with a mix of Chinese, Japanese and American favorites. It's definitely a place I will be back to for more!

This is still our favorite spot for Japanese food. I absolutely love all the options that they offer, but still tend to order the same thing. My go to is the steak hibachi and I will go between rice or noodles. The crab Rangoon eggrolls, and the bang bang shrimp are so good. This place is older, but don't let that stop you from enjoying a good meal.

Food is good and dumplings are amazing! Interior could use some cleaning up though and their adult drink offerings are weak and $$. Service can be questionable and huffy which is why they lost a star. Great location too.

We visited Shoto for my brother's birthday at 5 pm on a Saturday. We called ahead a few days early because we were bringing a party of 13, but they do not take reservations. They did say that they would do their best to accommodate us. All throughout our visit the staff were very kind and helpful. We arrived for an early dinner so that we would have a better chance of obtaining seating without waiting as this restaurant is on the smaller side. They opened the upstairs area with more seating as our party arrived. Upstairs is also where the restaurant's full bar is. Upstairs was truthfully a little dingy. The large number of stairs to the top were very creaky as was the floor upstairs. While we were dining upstairs, we were all quite cold as it did not feel as if any heat was on. In the corner of the room we were in there was no light, so it was a bit hard to see the menu. In the process of ordering the main entrees you can customize your order by selecting your protein, flavor style, vegetables and starch. Some examples of pricing include $11.49 for chicken and $12.99 for steak to $16.99 for a chicken & steak combo and $21.99 for a steak and scallop combo. The prices seem to be about average to a little higher. You also must consider the fact that if you would like a flavor style, that is extra. Also, more than 2 vegetables or mixed vegetables will cost extra. All the portions were very large with mountains of rice or noodles and vegetables with protein mixed in. Most people ended up splitting entrees with another person and if they got their own, they more than likely had to take some to go. We ordered the steak one with noodles and one with rice. The steak, rice and vegetables were good, but to that extent, they were just not bad and nothing special. As for the lo mein noodles, OH. MY. GOODNESS. Shoto gets their noodles from Charlotte where they are freshly made. These are probably the absolute best lo mein noodles we have ever had. The flavor and texture were both amazing. I would return just for the noodles.

The hibachi chicken and rice is terrible. It was expensive just for cheap chicken and no sauce on the chicken would not recommend shoto.

We were one of about 7 to 8 tables present in a restaurant, with only one server working. Even then, we were promptly serviced, and didn't have to wait a long time at all for our food Altogether, we ended up ordering one order of shrimp egg rolls, one order of veggie egg rolls, one order of shrimp summer rolls, two beef and meatball pho, one combination pho, and one chicken pho. Everything was brought out piping hot, and of course, the pho herbs, condiments, and veggies were super fresh and served in abundance The eggrolls all came out hot and fresh. The wrappers were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the filling was fresh on the inside. I did not taste the summer rolls, but everyone said they were excellent. I personally had the combination pho and wish it had a little bit more meat. I would say the amount was less than at other Vietnamese restaurants, but overall it was still really delicious and filling. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was perfectly seasoned. The total for the table was only $75, which I felt was reasonable for four people and the amount of food we received. Overall, a solid Vietnamese restaurant in Winston. I look forward to returning in the future.

I really wish Winston Salem had a great Banh Mi available. There are some good Pho restaurants but…read morethey don't serve Banh Mi usually and when they do it's not quite the authentic version I'm looking for. I had the Banh Mi at What Da Pho in the past and remember it was good so that's what I ordered this time. Additionally we ordered crab wontons and summer rolls. The restaurant is a little hidden but if you park in the parking structure adjacent to the restaurant it's super easy to get inside. First impressions are it's quiet- no music in the dining room, and the decor is sort of an afterthought with scotch tape holding LED lights to the walls and some Asian inspired pictures but not very well thought out. It's Ok, I'm not coming for the decor. The service is a little lacking. They are giving the bare minimum here so don't expect your server to be too friendly. The crab wontons and summer rolls arrived quickly. The crab wontons were super hot and crispy right from the deep fryer. They were filled with a delicious imitation crab and cream cheese mixture and when dipped in the sweet chili sauce they were exactly the thing I was craving. The summer rolls were equally as fresh and delicious. The filling of cold rice noodles, crisp lettuce and shrimp then dipped in the accompanying peanut sauce was just as delicious. We ordered one pork and one beef Banh Mi. The first thing I noticed was how plentiful the meat was in each one. Usually it's a light sandwich but these were very hefty in comparison to others I've had. My meat was very savory and had a very tender texture, almost like pot roast. It was also the juiciest pork I've ever had in a Banh mi. The picked vegetables were also really good but both our sandwiches were missing the jalapeno I've come to expect. My husband really enjoyed his beef one as well but we both noticed how the bread lacked that crusty flaky quality that Vietnamese baguettes normally have. This was more of a sub roll with a chewy texture and softer crust. The flavors were great, I just missed the textures I have come to expect in an authentic Banh mi. Our spot in Greensboro will still be my favorite but when I don't want to trek out that far, I can get my fix at What Da Pho.

Went for lunch. We got two different lunch specials--they came with soup (I paid to upgrade to miso…read moresoup). We also got an appetizer of crab Rangoons. Our soups and appetizer were the absolute best thing we ate. Our entrees were okay. My husband got the beef bulgogi and it needed something. He thought the addition of chili sauce would make it ideal. He gave it a 6 out of 10. I ordered the hibachi beef bowl and it was lacking flavor. The beef was well cooked but didn't seem to have any salt, soy sauce, or anything like that. It was a 5 out of 10.

We wanted sushi and red curry and they delivered us some excellent eats. Service was awesome and the manager still always comes by to ask if everything is ok. Love that. Probably at some point will need a Reno as they have been open awhile but nothing looked bad nice busy atmosphere and lots of customers which is nice to see. We ordered a standard vodka soda from the drink menu. They have drink specials every day as well. Then we tried the sweet heat roll which was so pretty ! Delicious with all the sushi elements. Yum. Then we tried the poke bowl with ahi tuna. Wow so big! Rice, seaweed salad and lots of Veggies and a yummy soy wasabi vinaigrette. The tuna sashimi was so fresh. Then the red curry with chicken. We asked for extra Thai spicy and it was just the perfect heat. Served with white rice this was a huge portion honestly could have served 3 people. We still had a lot left over . They were also great about giving us another bowl of rice which is also a nice touch . The sauce here for this red curry is amazing. I will be back to buy it as we asked if they sell it and our server said yes . It is one of the best I've ever had. We were somewhat totally full !! Haha! Such a fun night here eating all this amazing Great food . I need to make sure I come back sooner than a few years! If your red curry fan definitely come here!

They have Malaysian food and a specialty menu for khmer food. Khmer food is not knowned much in the east but its beginning to be more learned about and popular. There food is rich in flavor and there cuisine is mostly known for there use of fresh herbs, coconut milk and aromatic spice paste;known as kroeung(lemon grass paste). I decided to try some entrees from the Khmer menu. I tryed the Malaysian Roti appetizer with side curry. It is so so delicous. The curry is tasty too but a little too sweet for my taste. Main entrees I tryed was the chicken kroeung (sour lemongrass soup) and the braised pork meat on bone cooked in soy sauce( Malaysian style but Khmer people have a similar dish). The chicken kroeung is soup for the soul, filled with alot of green veggies and best eaten with white rice. The braised pork meat is great too. Cooked just right and seasoned good. Its not sweet or salty. Usually I would try braised meat in soy at other restaurants either it would be way too sweet or salty but they made theres just right. Now the Southeastern asian cooking is not for everybody or those who have only tried chinese or japanese food. If you'd like to try something different but oh sooo delicous, khmer cusine is for you!! The staff is very welcoming, friendly and informative. Food came out hot, quick and tasty(bursting of aromatic flavors). I met the owner too. He mentioned he also have a donut shop called Intown donuts and Boba tea..down the road on Jonestown Road. Will definitely dine here again and try there other menu items. But when I ordered it the manager,Tony Tan, said the dish was actually 1/2 Roasted Duck! I went with the duck(which includes steamed rice), and added Baby Bok Choy, a nicely stir-fried dish that goes very well as a side item with a great many Asian entrees! These items made up a very nice meal. The duck is chopped into chunks with bone in, and is plated with a nice amount of rich broth, with just a hint of sweetness. The chunked up approach for the duck does result in some small pieces of bone to be picked through, in some cases fairly carefully. The picking through the bones was definitely worth it. I'm looking forward to trying additional Cambodian dishes.

Because it was so crowded, tables were even set up in areas where people would normally walk through. We definitely didn't want the buffet but one of the staff members gave us a menu and told us they were also serving from their regular menu. We still considered leaving since the only available seating was at two small tables in the aisle but since we were already there, we decided to stay. It was very loud so we couldn't really ask the staff about the dishes. Not knowing what to order, we went with the combo plates. I got the Pork Sisig combo, and my husband ordered the Beef Tapa combo. The food was good overall. The flavors reminded us of a mix of Japanese, Chinese and Korean cuisine which was interesting. My sisig was a bit too salty, though. The only thing we weren't big fans of was the veggie rolls. We're still curious to try some of their other dishes so we'll probably give it another shot.
