Not all glasses stores are the same...and I'll prove it: I have very bad astigmatism in my right eye (+7.25) and have been using the higher quality progressive lenses for my frames. About four years ago, my glasses were getting so worn out, so I opted to get all-new specs. I have a good friend who is an optician, and he always does my measurements and creates my prescriptions for me. I brought my current prescription to the LensCrafters at Northgate Mall (or what's left of it), who promised me their lab could handle my heavy astigmatism. So I picked out a new frame and placed the order. Then they informed me I could get a second pair for 50% off, and I had been wanting to get prescription sunglasses anyways, so I opted to do the promotional offer for those glasses. I left the store feeling good that I had finally paid some attention to getting better eyesight. However, the result was horrific. First off, the lenses they gave me started to scratch up like crazy after the first month, despite my meticulous efforts to use only glasses-approved cleaning solution and microfiber cloth wipes to clean them. I mean, I was religious about it because I didn't want to scratch my beautiful new lenses. Turns out that didn't matter...they continued to get scratched up at a very fast pace. Secondly, they never produced my sunglasses. When I went in to pick up my regular glasses, they told me the sunglasses would take a little longer, which was fine with me. Two months later I called them wondering where my new sunglasses were. They told me the order had been cancelled. When I asked why, they couldn't produce a clear answer. They told me they would "look into it" and would let me know what they found out. They never, ever returned any of my calls, texts, or emails. I had to go back into the store a third time and demanded to know what was going on with my sunglasses order. They again told me the order was cancelled without any explanation as to why. They did not give me any option for honoring their promotional offer, which was the entire reason I decided to get the sunglasses in the first place. It was so infuriating, disrespectful, and negligent. Eventually, they reluctantly refunded my money, and I told them they had lost a customer for life. I was left searching for a new resource for my eye care that wouldn't treat me like a commercial pawn or just another consumer to scam. I live in Shoreline, so I took a chance and gave a call to Shoreline Eyecare. They were very understanding of my predicament and suggested I come in so they could see the glasses, my prescription, and give me their overall assessment of what would be a good next step for me to take. I immediately felt like someone actually gave a shit about my eyesight...which was very refreshing given the hellish experience at LensCrafters. My experience got even better after my first visit. I was offered a free check-up to verify the accuracy of my prescription, and then I met with a nice employee named Ally to review lens options for my existing frames (I wanted to keep the frames). When I showed her the glasses I got from LensCrafters, she looked them over for about twenty seconds and said my lenses were very likely defects because of the nature of the scratches and the fact they were so bad after a short period of time. As my blood boiled about being taken for a ride by yet another consumer-preying corporate entity such as LensCrafters, my conscience was slowly being convinced I had come to the right place at Shoreline Eyecare. It was exceptionally clear to me that Ally was thinking and acting upon my best interests. As she made suggestions, she checked the system to see if my insurance gave my discounted or covered options, she shared alternatives, showed me the supply line items for total transparency, and just made me feel like she was now my eyesight partner, as opposed to someone trying to sell me new glasses. When I decided to pull the trigger on the new lenses, I also decided to get the sunglasses as well since this seemed like a place that would be able to fulfill such a request. Ally informed me that, based on my insurance policy, it would behoove me to wait until after the new year because, at that point, she could apply a vision discounting to my order and save me close to $200! So I chose to do that for my regular glasses and went ahead with the sunglass order in the meantime. Ally helped me get the new lenses for my glasses ordered, they fit perfectly, and I'm now enjoying amazingly sharp and clear eyesight. I didn't come here for the optometrist appointment. Instead, I just ordered my glasses here through giving the staff my prescription. The staff are pretty on top of things. Since my optometrists were not in network or had the brand of glasses that I wanted, I came here to get my prescription filled. The staff already contacted my optometrist to get all the information they needed. They told me that my glasses would be ready in 1 to 2 weeks and they came in around the time that they predicted. This place was fantastic with Dr.Chen but the service since has gone incredibly downhill since. Totally unfortunate because this is mere minutes from my house and I've previously gone here for years. They are the worst now with helping patients or rather not anymore. I asked them on three separate occasions to fax my prescription to two different facilities. Frustrating for my doctors office to not get something two weeks after my eye appointment when going in for my check up. Today I had the most recent facility call them to provide my prescription over the phone finally with hesitation. We were then told their fax machine was broken. Dr. Irene Chen was WONDERFUL! She did back to back exams on myself and my 12 year old ADHD and autistic daughter. She was calm, patient, kind, and explained everything she was doing, she made it fun for my daughter as well, which is a huge bonus when I can barely get her to keep her attention on anything. She was incredibly professional, and I am extremely thankful for that. Her staff was fantastic and helped us pick out the right frames for each of us! I loved Shoreline Eyecare. Dr. Tydor set me up with the best pair of contact lenses I've ever had. I was having trouble with distance reading and now it's perfect. I wear the hard gas permeable kind and I've never seen better. They also set me up with a pair of computer reading glasses. I was really struggling to see my computer. I was leaning forward with my chin in my hand and my neck was not liking that at all. The computer glasses are amazing. They showed me some cheap frames and my out of pocket cost was only $8 after insurance payment. I love them! I don't need expensive frames just for the computer. I'm sending my husband there. I have been working with Dr. Tydor, Eva and the Shoreline Eyecare staff for several years. My energetic puppy recently snapped my frames in half. It was then I realized I did not have backup glasses. I work in a profession where full use of my eyes in-close and from a distance is critical. I called Eva and told her my tale of woe. I described my urgent need for new glasses in advance of an important meeting. Within hours she notified me of a cancellation later in the week, which would allow me to have a complete eye exam (which was a pleasure with Dr. Tydor). She also found some frames that she seemed sure would look good on me. I dashed to the office at lunch to try them on and she was right. She shipped the frames to the provider in advance of my appointment so they would be in the provider's hands the moment the result of my eye exam came back. Fast forward to later that week. I received a call on Saturday morning from Eva letting me know my new glasses were in her hands. I zipped over to the office, Eva tweaked the frames ever so slightly to ensure a perfect fit, and I was on my way. My overall experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Eva was proactive, upbeat and attentive to all of the right details (including my costs). I was seen by Erika Tydor. She was friendly, professional, and thorough. She explained everything clearly, and did not make the experience feel rushed at all. If I had any questions, she made sure they were answered. I am headed on vacation soon, and my current prescription for contacts is expired. She is doing everything she can to make sure I am well equipped for my trip. That's the kind of service you don't find anywhere else. I only gave one star less because their selection for glasses is very limited. Luckily I found the ones that I want there. I would recommend doing your exam here. If you can't find the frames you are looking for, I would window shop somewhere else, grab the model #'s and return to them to see if they can order them. That way you get the same excellent service. It was the last day of the year...hectic day....got off a doctor's appointment on the Eastside that lasted longer than expected....ran late here however everyone made sure that I was taken care of that day. The doctor was friendly and efficient. She seems smart and definitely knows her job well. Her office is clean with modern instruments. Emily and Jessica at the store, are professional, super sweet and genuine. The other customers were having as much fun as I did shopping for our eyeglass frames that day. I was fitted for contacts at $95. Staff said they bought contacts from an online store at competitive prices so I said ok after the exam. Was surprised that they cost in excess of my insurance coverage and later discovered that there were MUCH cheaper options online. I had a not so good experience here. The eye doctor actually lied to me or was misinformed, both of which are unideal for a medical professional. She insisted that the brand of contacts I needed were discontinued (nope, not true) and that I should get one of the better, more expensive brands. Sure, the newer brands breathe more, but they stick to my eyeballs and it takes me 30 minutes to get them out and my eyes are irritated. Even when I told her that I had a horrible experience w this gel type of soft lens in the past, she dismissed me and said,"oh these are different than that brand." I looked online; not true. Same material. Meanwhile, they said my prescription went up by one whole number in one eye. And my prescription hasn't changed in ten years. Ok, I get that this is possible, but when I said I have been functioning just fine, the eye doctor was patronizing about it. And now my vision feels off and I have headaches. The sales people in the front office were friendly so that's why this is two stars instead of one. I'm finding a different eye doctor next year. I went to Shoreline Eyecare to fix my broken eyeglass frame and ended up purchasing a brand new fabulous pair of glasses. For over a month I carried an eyeglass prescription which I got from my ophthalmologist, not sure where to go for my new glasses. I have moved to the area from New York a short time ago, and all the services were new to me. It wasn't until my only pair fell apart that I was forced to look for the nearest eyeglass place to repair it, which turned out to be Shoreline Eyecare. When I walked in the optician, Eva, was busy with a client and the phone was ringing, but despite that she did not turn me away when I showed her my broken frame. She said that she can fix it and she did soon after. Because of her caring attitude I told her about my prescription. Eva spent over an hour with me choosing a frame from her great selection. I valued her advice, her modern take on which frame and color would look best on a client, and picked the one she recommended. Eva is also very knowledgable about various types of lenses and suggested the ones most suitable for computer work. Her measurements were so perfect that I see very clearly the various distances through my progressive lenses, and I can even use them for playing the piano (before I had a separate pair). I have never found a more caring and professional optician than Eva. And because of her I recommend the Shoreline Eyecare to anyone who needs new glasses. I am shocked that I didn't review my eye clinic yet! I have been coming here for years. Dr. Tydor is very knowledgeable and kind. The clinic always runs on time (even early!) for appointments. The gal who will help you choose and fit your glasses (I believe her name is Eva) is THE BEST. She will take as much time as you need and give you suggestions for the glasses that look the best on you. Once they arrive, she will patiently work with you to make sure they fit juuuust so. Dr. Irine Chen is friendly and funny, and seems to care of my eye health. On my first visit, she made me feel comfortable right away, even after going through all the eye exam procedures. She and her staff took the time to help me getting the right eye glasses... Just got my new eye glasses last Friday... LOVE IT! I got so many compliments already. They don't have many selection on sunglasses yet, so... If you need prescription sunglasses, you may not be as satisfied with their selection. However, they are pretty new (4-5 months), so... I must say that I don't feel the same about Shoreline Eyecare as I did when Dr. Chen was there. It felt more customer service oriented, where the patient mattered and their needs were met. With the new staff I feel like it is much more business oriented and cold, not very personable. I am so glad I found this place. Apparently my eyes were too complicated for my last eye Dr, which left me with daily headaches because of my lopsided vision. I called a different eye clinic that couldn't get me an appointment until 2 months later, but Shoreline Eyecare was able to get me in within 2 weeks. Dr.Chen is professional, friendly, and really takes the time to make sure your eyes get what's best for them. A normally quick exam took far longer (in a good way) because I wasn't getting the right fit with my contacts. With every complaint I had she made an adjustment and I left my appointment seeing things more clearly than I had when I walked in. My wife first went to see Dr. Irene Chen and was so happy with the service she told me to make an appointment. Shoreline Eyecare is a really nice boutique type office, with a great selection of frames, this time I decided to get a real pair of sunglasses, so I found some Ray Ban frames that are very sturdy but still look stylish. I had a great experience going thru the exam and the fitting, Dr. Chen and her assistant are super nice. In the past I went from eye doctor to eye doctor, a different one each time I needed glasses.
