I've popped by the shop on several occasions to browse, and found things in a good range of price points. Though I usually just browse, I'm tempted to go here the next time I need a hostess gift, or a gift for my nephews. The kids section here has grown in recent years, and they have cute books and toys, in addition to some artwork. I've also had the pleasure of chatting with a few of the staff members here. They've all been very nice. Some employees restocking the shelves and learning the ropes are not used to working in a retail environment - but that's what this place is about. Helping folks who need opportunities like this to work & be mentored & hopefully someday become independent of caregivers. Overall I'd say the aesthetic is very Pinterest-y. Crafty, colorful, trendy stuff. I'll definitely be shopping here again.

Let me paint the picture…read more.. My wife and I were attending a wedding at the Port Authority. We arrived at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center with plenty of time to relax. Since she always takes four hours longer than me to get ready, I took the opportunity to watch TV and have a little rest, deciding that I'd get up at 4:30 pm with plenty of time to get myself ready for the 6 pm wedding as the venue was only about 10 minutes away. At 4:45 pm, I proceeded to put on my dress shirt and, to my shock and disappointment, realized I had packed a tuxedo shirt instead of a normal button down. The shirt I had with me required cufflinks and buttons that were sitting in my closet at home. There was no way I could drive there and back so I decided to look for a place close by that might be able to give me a hand. Knowing that my wife was extremely displeased, but handled it very well, I tried several avenues to remedy this situation, including asking other hotel guests if they had a shirt I could borrow and stopping into nice restaurants in the area to see if the waitstaff had any shirts on hand. When those options failed, I ran the thirteen minute route down Randolph to find Hot Sam's. I arrived at their door at 5:10 pm and the store was alive with people getting measured for suits, people socializing on the loungers around the store, and managers and staff mingling with customers and regulars coming in and out of the store. They saw me as I entered, out of breath and sweating profusely, and asked what my situation was. I told them that I was in jeopardy of both missing a wedding and being killed by my wife, which they immediately smiled, gave me a napkin to dry my brow, and were able to tell the size of my shirt without even getting a measuring tape. The shirt was perfectly priced considering they could have charged me 4 x what I paid to solve the problem. They wished me well and told me they would be here to serve me (and others) for whatever the occasion would be in the future. Within 13 minutes, my emergency was resolved and I was able to causally stroll back to the venue feeling ready to dance the night away. I even beat my wife to the venue. I will definitely be returning to Hot Sam's in the future (once my shin splints heal) when I need to freshen up my wardrobe or find the perfect outfit for a special occasion. Thank you, gentlemen, for taking care of me and being a staple to this community.

Hot Sam's has a great selection, including some things you won't find anywhere else. They have a website if you're not in town, but if you're in the Motor City, go for the experience. It's not hard to see why they've been in business for 100 years!

This visit to the GM Renaissance Center felt bittersweet. With GM moving its global headquarters to…read morethe Hudson's Detroit building, much of the RenCen is already closed for renovation. Level A - the first floor was closed, and we could only walk around Level 1, with limited access to view the cars from above. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots to bring friends when they visited Detroit. Seeing everything from vintage GM models to upcoming vehicles all in one place always felt iconic. Knowing this was likely one of the last visits before major demolition begins made it feel even more emotional. We'll truly miss this space as we've known it. The change, while disappointing at first, makes sense. The two office towers closest to the river, along with the connecting podium, are slated for demolition. The original 1970s-era design simply no longer fits modern work needs, especially with the shift toward remote and hybrid work. While it's sad to see this space go, the future plans, opening up the riverfront and creating a Navy Pier-style park and entertainment area, give hope that something even better is coming.

Phase one was completed in 1977 with additional towers added in 1981 for a total of seven! Sadly, General Motors decided to relocate its headquarters elsewhere and much of the office space is vacant. One word...Paranoid. This was the most unwelcoming establishment I have ever stepped foot in, ever…read more I wanted to give this place a try despite the rough and cheap looking items displayed and the shabby look of the exterior. It all screamed cheap to me and I even hesitated to even enter at all. My husband refused to go in and told me to leave my wallet behind as he felt it wasn't a safe place to enter even. I finally decided to try it out by the off chance that I might discover some flat shoes. I took a few pictures of the exterior and a few of the interior. The petite brunette woman with her hair tied back tightly asked what I was doing from behind the counter and I told her that I am a Yelp reviewer and was taking photos for my review. She said she was scared and was wondering why I was taking photos was all. I asked if I wasn't allowed to review this place and she said that it was fine. I browsed around some at the flats looking for a pair of silver and gold flats, that I have been in search for months now. As I was browsing the shoe aisle, this same woman was on the phone watching me like a suspicious and paranoid hawk. She then told me with a stern tone, while she was on the phone that she was on the phone with her boss and was told that I am not allowed to take any photos of her store. I told her that's too bad since I had already taken some photos when she gave me the go ahead earlier. I took no further photos and abruptly walked out of the store. I was in my car and my husband said the same skeptical woman came by the door and was clearly watching us while still on the phone. He said we should leave the parking lot immediately as he felt she was about to come out and approach us in the car to accost us or admonish us further about taking photos after the fact. This same woman acted as if I was either from a competitor store or from ICE, I am none of the aforementioned. I felt their treatment was uncalled for, rude, discomforting, suspicious and shady beyond words. Their ill treatment of me was tantamount to chasing me out with a big stick. It is unpardonable for a retail store or any business of value to treat customers this horribly. What ghastly service. Come only if you feel like being berated and treated and viewed as a social pariah, otherwise, next! They clearly have trust issues since they have a sign on the door that clearly states that all bags are to be left in the front. I had no issue leaving a bag or not even bringing one in the first place. I left my bag in the car and took only my wallet. The owner and staff member ought to be ashamed of themselves. It's highly recommended and very clear that the staff and owner here need to work on their trust issues and take customer service 101.
