I have been to this Front Royal Flea Market location while passing thru town a few times since…read more2015, and keep coming away with the same experience of "meh", not that impressed each time. Seems to be a location with no real focus or quality to offer or worth returning to. Mostly the location has a series of "U-shaped" plywood vendor stalls, that sellers show up daily, and populate with 'whatever' strikes a fancy! We have noticed that most items appear to be charitable-donation level personal clothing, effects, and recycled discarded items. Some sellers don't even bother to conceal the donation bags they have removed from charitable donation bins. The sellers who have produce & food items are not fresh, largely appear to be expired, or obtained from chain sellers per the boxing and packaging they are presented in. Healthcare products as well, appear to be expired and/or discarded items from retail. I would have say this location is more of a curiosity than a flea market.

I drove to Virginia from Maryland to visit my husband during a recent training session. We were going to skyline drive & checking the area out. I love antiques and old pharmacy bottles for my collection and antique medical equipment. Therefore I always keep my eye out for antique stores or other sales and I spotted this car show & truth be told I'm a big truck or old American made muscle car gal. I hit the jackpot! My husband is also an American made old car man. We had a blast walking around & looking at the old cars and trucks. Oh, how I would have loved to take a drive in one of those cars:-). The car show gets a 5/5 in my book Now the market inside & the ice cream. All I can say is if it's hot and going to get ice cream get in line and take turns waiting. We had a long wait, but the ice cream was delicious!! Prices in the market were high for my budget but they had those hard to find fruit and veggies we all need for family recipes. I called them and asked if they had pasture raised eggs and they did. This farm stand is so cute and right off of US-33. As soon as you walk in, abundant buckets of colorful fruit and vegetables greet you. Staff was very helpful and answered all my questions. They even have some misfit produce available at a discounted rate. A lady there took a whole bucket of plump peaches home for really cheap. Everything is grown or produced locally which I found fascinating. The blackberries and cherries I got from here were absolutely divine and the non-GMO eggs I got from here also tasted amazing. They had tons of varieties of heirloom tomatoes and had fridges full of locally produced cheeses, desserts and other milk products. As well as meats and baked goods. If you are looking for organic, locally grown and produced food - look no further than this beautiful farm stand.

On Saturday we were having burgers so I decided to slice one of my ($4.00) tomatoes. This tomato was so mushy and so grainy that the entire thing was unusable. It had clearly been refrigerated. People who sell produce fir a living know better. Then on Sunday I was going to eat a peach. This was two days after purchase. Four of my six peaches were moldy and had to be thrown away. We found that this farm fit the bill, with different pick-your-own options depending on season. Apple season had just started, so we headed on over. We first went into the small shop, where we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful young man. He explained how to determine which fruit was ready for picking, and sent us off with our bags to fill. The rows are well-marked, and I was thrilled to see that my favorite apple -- honey crisps -- were ripe and ready for picking. The farm has a large variety of apples -- golden delicious, gala, sweet surprise, ambrosia, etc. -- though not all were yet ripe. The trees were producing a lot of fruit, all of which was easy to reach, so our bags were filled in no time. We returned to the market, where we purchased quite a lot of additional fruits (peaches) and vegetables (okra, giant Marconi peppers, sweet banana peppers, green onions, and eggplant). They also sell other farm-fresh produce and eggs. There are also handmade wooden ornaments for sale. We didn't taste our haul until returning home -- both the peaches and apples taste amazing. Crisp and sweet. Fresh off the tree DOES make a difference! We haven't tasted the vegetables yet. -5-stars for food quality. -5 stars for staff. The gentleman in the store was very engaging, patiently answering a ton of our questions about the farm and its products. -5 stars for value. The prices are competitive with local grocery stores, but you're getting fresher products. -1 star for location. LOL. The farm is two hours away from our home! I wish it were closer to us. We would definitely be regulars there if it were! Seriously though, the location is easy to find, and convenient from Harrisonburg or Massanutten.
