We walked inside and were immediately greeted by an older lady. She asked where I'm visiting from, I told her Connecticut. She said "well, in Connecticut, you're known for Mystic Pizza. Here in Virginia we're known for our peanuts!" I never knew about Virginia peanuts. She handed me a few handfuls of different varieties of peanuts to sample. These peanuts are larger, drier, crunchier than others I've tried, and they have so many flavors. I don't mind peanuts, but they're not my favorite snack. In addition to the peanuts, they also sell the typical things one might find in a touristy gift shop. There's candles, magnets, tee shirts, and other items that say Virginia on them. I liked the outdated look of this little store. The lady working here was very friendly, if it weren't for her I would never know about the Virginia peanuts.

The grocery section is pretty small but had everything I was looking for - sliced bread, fruit, vegetables, and milk. The price is roughly 2 times what you would expect to pay at Food Lion though - $5 for half a gallon of milk, $5 for a loaf of bread, etc. There's also an assortment of souvenirs if you're interested in that kind of thing, including a mini Build a Bear type machine (where you stuff the animal with cotton and pick out an outfit). Although we didn't go fishing at Massanutten, we did hear that you can buy fishing bait, a fishing license, and rent fishing gear here too. Apparently their lakes are stocked 8 times a year so there's always fish!

Thankfully, this Wayside isn't federally run, so while we couldn't go to the NPS Visitor Center, we were able to get some keepsakes/souvenirs here to help commemorate our time.

During the summer, they advertise outdoor 'mining' for the kids - they feature a huge sluice and various sized bags for sale for panning! I have not personally experienced this because they close during Labor Day and I always go the weekend after. The store, located on the second floor the building which also houses Deep Creek Donuts & FunTime Watersports, is a relatively small shop. I am not sure if they are handicap accessible but I do not believe they are. It is also very quiet inside which was a little awkward shopping with a companion and trying to have light conversation while shopping; they might benefit from playing some soft music to make it more inviting. The handmade pottery is beautiful and priced very reasonable - there are small certified cards inside that tell you when/where/who made your art- a very nice touch. They also have a nice selection of geodes, agates, healing stones, and other decorative stones which are very trendy right now. Their clothing selection features mostly T-shirts and similar garments screen-printed with Native-inspired images. They also have jewelry cases along the wall that extend 2 complete walls of the shop; complete with lots of silver and beaded items that are just beautiful. This is a really cool shop loaded with neat goodies, and it's unlike any shop I've ever seen as it focuses on Native offerings which are beautiful and well-made. I have purchased several real geode/stone magnets, large geode bookends, pottery, and some home decor items- I always find something to take home with me! I highly recommend visiting on your next vacation to Deep Creek!

Out-front there is a very nice gas fireplace with seats surrounding. I made a quick stop for coffee and to look at a some souvenirs. I already new the prices would be resort fees. We were here to zip line and rode the go karts. It was good they had cold bottled water and glass cokes for us to buy. These were enjoyed, and replenished our hydration. Good staff working. Hired Vivian's Flower Shop sight unseen for my daughter's wedding in Luray. The owner spoke with my…read moredaughter about what she invisiones as far as types of flowers and colors for the wedding. I was so nervous because we basically just trusted that the florist would take her wishes and make it beautiful. We were so nervous . When he showed up with the flowers on the day of both my daughter and I wanted to cry. The flowers were sooo beautiful. The colors and arrangements were gorgeous!! I am in awe of his artistic abilty to put together such lovely, lovey arrangements of flowers. We are so happy that Vivian's was available for the day and that they just went over and above to make the day even better with the flowers!!
