The "mojo" of this office, relative to the Vernon Hills site, was completely different in the most positive respect. An actual receptionist heartily greeted me on arrival with a warm smile and focused demeanor, all but absent, unfortunately, at the Vernon Hills site, which seemed understaffed and in some respect unwelcoming. The Mundelein site's optometrist, whose name I did not request, unfortunately, was the paragon of kindness, warmth and acumen. Her personality was warm, her procedural concern extremely capable and her general attentiveness exemplary. Frankly I was not accustomed to this standard of care from the other location, capable though all staff seemed to be. The site's general manager, Tai, was also very personable, sociable and proud of his operation. Here was a gentleman who takes great pride in his work and team and he is highly commended as one who strives to run not only a tight ship, but a humanistic one. I cannot recall any visit to the Vernon Hills shop that in any manner possessed and/or offered the confluence of "feel good" factors that I experienced in Mundelein this morning. In summary, I have long had affinity for the ABC&E offerings. Having visited and experienced the Mundelein paradigm today, there is no going back to Vernon Hills in light of my exposure to a much enhanced, and appreciated, customer service approach and experience. This location is fantastic and highly recommended.

Let me start by saying I read my insurance policy on my insurance website and then booked the appointment through my insurance provider saying this location was covered in my insurance network. I knew before arriving my insurance plan covered contacts and glasses. When I asked the front desk staff she looked at me and said "most people only get glasses or contacts so just pick out glasses as the best bang for your buck." Cool, so I pick out my glasses. As I'm doing so she pulls up my plan and tells me I have coverage for neither contacts or glasses. I try to explain to her that I work for a multi billion dollar pharmaceutical company and I'm definitely covered. I proceed to take out my company phone and look up my coverage again; where it tells me I'm covered. I look at my paycheck where I've been paying for eye insurance all year. I'm throughly confused. The two other front desk staff proceed to sing and mess around while I try to talk to the other women that thinks I came here with no insurance. The receptionist is the only person helping by calling my insurance company. After getting everything cleared up and experiencing what was the most unprofessional experience in a doctors office. I get my bill. Guess what I was covered for glasses and contact. Next time don't walk up to the customer and tell them that they are not covered until after you've called their insurance agency. I did not like the doctor as he was not listening to me at all and said that's your prescription and it will be fine and rushed us out. He seemed like a know it all and pampas. I came to pick up my glasses and could not focus with either pair I ordered. The staff tried to clean the lenses and adjusting the nose piece but still was not helping. They told me to go home and try it for a week and they would call me to check up on me, but if they had to remake them they would not help me as it would still be the same prescriptions. NEVER got a follow up call. I feel like they did not listen to me at all during the exam and after. I trusted them and now I feel that I was swindled and the glasses are unusable garbage. DO NOT TRUST THEM. I do not want any communications with them EVER.

Before you think about driving to the emergency room give them a call for minor and moderate eye issues. They might be able to see you quickly. I was a next morning after reporting anomaly in the afternoon day before. The office is clean well kept and equipment is of current generation. Phoropters and slit lamps are original early 2000s installs very well maintained and kept with pristine lenses. Staff are caring and nice and handle exams quickly. Dilation waiting area was in the center but was told to go to main waiting which was a slight workflow deficiency, I will not deduct stars for workflow deficiency. Points will be deducted Appearance 90 (some corners of exam chairs have peeled paint and could use a repaint and refresh. The leather as well has cracked on some seats making a reupholstery job a favorable management decision in addition to light repainting and updating the overall offices decor. It feels like it's stuck in 2004) Staff 100 (absolute gems of staff here. Very caring and patient even with rather sketchy eye control in cerebral palsy exam. A CP exam can take up to 70% more time than a standard exam. Here a CP exam takes averaged across five exams approximately 20% longer than a standard persons exam which is impressive efficiency with high complexity care.) Equipment 100 (while cosmetic issues exist such as peeling paint actual equipment is kept in pristine condition and works as expected. In fact the auto diagnostic machine was so clean I plopped my head down and they said "hang on hang on I haven't even wiped it yet!" Your fault for it looking perfectly ready!) Workflow 85 (this one was the hardest to deduct for. They had a central interior waiting room with no windows for dilating patients. Instead they had everyone waiting in main today. Not sure if this was due to the water issue in the building or if this was a workflow defect. Will follow up next exam and remind them of proper use of the dilation room to avoid over irritation of patient eyes during the wait and to improve COVID-19 distancing for patients by keeping dilating patients away from the main waiting to protect them while eyes are in a more vulnerable state.) Dawn is an excellent assistant as is Bogdana. I've never had an issue with communication. Very kind and patient. The team works together to create a calm, welcoming and soothing environment. At my first appointment, he discovered tears in my retina. He diagnosed me promptly and throughly. He then made room for me during that same appointment for an emergency procedure to repair the tears before they caused a detached retina. A hundred blasts of a laser and the problem is resolved -no issue since the repair. . As you can imagine this is nerve wracking. All through this, he was very calm and reassuring. He is very kind and patient during the stressful procedure. I like how he explains what he is doing, what the condition is, it's impact and treatment in layman's terms. I feel fully informed at all steps. I have confidence in what he tells me. I doubt I would have had the the success I enjoy with another doctor. He is humble and sees his work as a calling. He is a good man who I recommend unconditionally.

Dr. Jack Cohen was a dream come true for me when I turned to him to correct a retinal flaw in my…read moreright eye. I had previously undergone the same surgery for my left eye, done by another surgeon at another practice, and as I said to Dr. Cohen, my experience with him was like a ride in a private jet; the earlier surgery, in contrast, was more like a Greyhound bus trip. Not only is Dr. Cohen a healer in the purest sense -- a master of his craft, who also radiates care and concern for his patients -- but his entire staff shares his attitude and demeanor. Every contact with everyone in his office, pre-op and post-op, demonstrated their genuine investment in my comfort and well-being. As for the surgery, whereas my previous operation was done under general anesthetic, with the attendant post-anesthesia issues, this one was performed with no more than a local. It turns out there had been no reason to put me completely under the first time. I was thus fully conscious and able to observe the calm, self-assured manner in which he directed his assistants through an atypical procedure, due to some unforeseen anomalies in the structure of my eye. Nevertheless, he was able to completely repair and restore the vision in my right eye. Thank you Dr. Cohen! Furthermore, he and his staff bent over backwards to adapt to my rather difficult schedule, instead of insisting that I conform to theirs. Another stark contrast with my previous surgery. Consequently, after a full day, including another operation at a different hospital entirely, he willingly agreed to fit me in at 6:00 PM, and in addition, called the house at 9:30 that night to make sure I was in good shape post-op. Thank you again, Dr. Cohen; thank you to his entire staff. I'm very very grateful and appreciative. This is what medicine should be!
